It's worse than the already existing actual team life Portland offer. Someone overthought this.

Porzingus is a negative value contract player.  I'd assume we get a bunch of 1sts in that deal if it were real.  However,  it's really Ben for McCollum basically.  And Portland already offered us more than that.  Their offer includes Simon's and a 1st. There was no need to add 2 more teams,  and bring in a bad contract.  We could have just done the deal with Portland.

Furthermore i don’t think they are really interested in McCollum unless they get a bunch of picks, simons and little back. they can use McCollum salary to match and flip McCollum later (offseason or next year at the trade deadline when he’d have 2 or 1.5 years left) with the picks for someone they truly covet.

Having said that, teams are dumb. From a marketing perspective they can use Simmons as an All-Star and the fact he is a DPOY candidate to bring in fans.

Players are self absorbed and most of the time just want to play with their friends or go off name value. The All-Star voting is a perfect example. They have no idea what's going on around the league most of the time. 

Coaches think they can turn the player around because they're egotistical and think that X, Y and Z have failed but I'm better. 

Front office guys are desperate to make splash moves because if it pans out they can get the glory, particularly when they're either on a road to nowhere or fighting to keep their jobs. Desperation takes over. Hinkie was really good at taking advantage of this guys and he was Morey's protege

Morey has been told he can wait it out and he is waiting for someone to blink. I'll be curious to see if the owership will let him go through with it or if they'll intervene at some point and force him to take something.

Great post and points. I understand all the desperation and players not really paying attention. However, he went from laughing stock of the league and people saying just get what you can. Now in a day or 2 has exploded into Ben is now a hot commodity. I don't doubt he might get something a little better then what they would have initially I just don't think it got this extreme all of a sudden. 

I know some of you are draft guys but you should watch Benn Mathurin of Arizona. Had an Arizona player (who actually played on the sixers way back in the day and with dr. J) tell me he might be Arizona’s best player since Derrick Williams and maybe even 00-01 when they had arenas and Richard Jefferson. Needs to improve his defense but his offensive game is outstanding.
