Now we need to see what they do for buyouts, because they absolutely need a Drummond replacement.

Dragic, and Thompson would be great.

I think if he does that it gives him the chance to get a supermax at the end of next year.

What a great age to pay a super max.  Yay!!

Yeah but even before the trade they needed another guard off the bench. Unless you anticipate Shake to come back from what seems like a never ending injury to give you productive minutes

Doc would never do it because he is old school but you let Embiid run the offense for a few minutes a game.

@barho   I can send you instructions on how to quote a post so you can smack talk properly.  Let me know.

😂

Suns gave away Smith

I would think or next move to try to begin re-stocking some assets so this team can recover from aging superstars in the future would be to trade Harris for someone decent, and picks.

It doesnt have to happen this year. But maybe this summer when his contract is looking a little more attractive. Someone like Grant and a 1st would be a good start.

Whats the story with embiids tweet??

they have no Center other than Embiid.

Milsap can get minutes there for the time being.

Making sure his hater is dead.

This is gonna really be something.... Harden will seek a new contract this offseason as he becomes eligible for a five-year, $269 million deal.

With that contract and Embiids, I dont see how they can keep Harris beyond next year.

Maybe they trust Bassey. Not like the back up big is going against anyone special, just rebound and set screens

I think Harris is moved in the offseason or next year when he has more value. For this season, you go for it with a wide open East and Harris finally as the 3rd option.

Not gonna happen until the off-season. I say this for a reason I’ll reveal after the deadline passes.

You’re welcome. :smoke:

We’ve seen first hand how much it kills the team when Embiid sits in past seasons without a legit backup. They absolutely need to make a move for a Drummond replacement.

If Embiid sits in the playoffs then it doesn't matter season is over.

I would also point out that next year they could potentially make a trade at the deadline to acquire even more players to put around harden and embiid. You still have your young asset to give up in Matisse Thybulle, Tobias Harris whose contract becomes much more palatable at the trade deadline next year as he becomes expiring contract in 2023-24 (the following year), green on an expiring contract and you didn’t give away all your first round picks. not only did they make that trade but they gave themselves an opportunity at next year’s trade deadline  to potentially make another move if need be.

For this year I am really, really thrilled to still have Harris. Maxey and Harris are a great 3rd and 4th option.  Harris can contribute about 16 a game and focus on grabbing more boards. If he can keep up 20ppg pace thats icing on the cake.

And having the best perimeter defender on Harden is going to make Maxey's life way easier too. He will be going to the basket at will.

Im just looking at it from a cap perspective. We are going to be way over the apron. At which point you cant even do sign and trades like you can when you are over the cap. You are pretty much limited to veteran minimum contracts as your only possibly way to acquire players.

They likely at some point look to move Harris to get back under the apron. He will still be productive and at some point his conract begins to become more attractive. So you can get someone decent, on a decent contract, and maybe get a pick too. Its the next logical big move.

This is good. THIS is the deal that will prove Morey to be the genius people say he is.

Acquiring Harden at this age, and at the cost of his next contract is nice to get rid of simmons. But its not like getting a superstar in his prime. This isnt special. Its what the GM can still pull off when he has a team so cap strapped that will really prove the genius.

Im off of Fire Morey mode for now. But, hes not proven himself yet. A Beal, or LaVine trade could have done that. A Murray trade with the Spurs might have done that.

This is good. But he needs another shoe to drop at some point to be great.

Thanks, I hope you are too lol.  One of my buddies feels the same way as you and was texting a bunch of crap.  He said we will never win a championship and I said make a wager.  He said $100.  I had to say yes.  He said ever, so as long as Harden is still on Philly.  Enjoy your golf day.

If they flame out in the playoffs they will say it's chemistry issues and then max out harden at 35 yrs old to make another run. They need to at least get to the finals this year for this to be worth it IMO.

With Curry gone, and Maxey likely to remain in the starting lineup, if we can do anything in the last 15 minutes or on the buyout market it still seems like we need a guard for that bench unit. A trade would be nice. Or Dragic on the buyout seems like the homerun move that needs to happen.

Embiid is playing out of his mind this year, so going for it, especially with no real competition in the East beyond Milwaukee, makes sense.

He’s not playing 48 minutes per game in the playoffs.

That's my mindset.  You have a team built around Embiid, and he's playing the best basketball of his career right now with a team that proved capable of winning with a major piece, in Simmons, out of the picture completely.  Gotta strike while the iron is hot.
