Chiefs let both T just walk. They weren’t even that impressed with either of those guys.

The battle at the line needs to be won first ...in order to win the battle in either backfield.   With today's rules, trying to build the team backwards makes no sense.

Getting rid of the best RT and investing big at RB isn't smart either.

See when watching the magician...you see what happens at the end....ie. the RB carry or the DB making a play.   You miss what's going on the whole time during the trick.... which is what happens at the line.

Again....who is looking to imitate the rest of the league here?  The league had a down year ...no doubt.   I noticed teams with good DLs ...made the final 4.    I notice this happens pretty much every year as compared to secondaries.

Niners Kinlaw hasn’t been great. Armstead and Bosa rock. If you talk Niners you gotta talk LB. Fred Warner controls game. Greenlaw was fantastic this year two. Warner makes a huge difference. But you don’t see LB effecting games like he does. He’s just special.

The argument against CGJ is that he played behind an elite DL that gave him opportunities to make big plays.

That's the best reason not to pay him.

The legit WR should have the CBs on them... in cover 2 the safety shouldn't be biting on the short route.. . Why do you think CGJ had those #s you didn't like?  It wasn't because he was pressing up on the 5 yard out.

Gannon system. Very setup for S to be the playmakers. Clearly the guys that D favors the most. Had them deep much of the time to play forward.

Do they control the game closer to the line...or deep in the secondary?

So yeah gives up tons of the underneath passes. Some of that is system. But it should have the S setup real nice to make tackles galore. Ceedy Duce not the best tackler. Think in coverage and tackling he takes some poor angles too much. One fairly fixable part is he was small slot guy. Needs to bulk up to become more a S. He tried to lay that big hit on…? Watson I think. Teed the receiver right up. But ended up splitting his kidney and the receivers just bounced right off.

Yes...it's why I mentioned the double move isn't the same concern as when a guy bites at CB.

Fairly predictable that CGJ is a better interception guy than tacking. Corner moving to S almost tells you that’s coming.

But would you pay him 13mil ... yes or no?

Absolutely great time to get they guy to come here and learn for a couple years.   No doubt.  Just not the time to get rid of Lane. Just bad for your QB1.

I think QB1 deserves best protection.  He deserves respect.   We need to learn from not giving #5 and #11 all the tools.  Need to nurture and develop QB1 and give him everything.   Certainly not give Lane to a contender???   For what? A 3rd round pick?

Not for a third. I think he would bring in more. He’s at a high right now. Played well even hurt. Just can’t expect his play to stay at that level much longer. Think the usual is age brings on the more injuries. Recovery tougher. Just is what it is. You know holding on to Lane you only doing it for two years ….three totally max. So if you step back and look at the big picture…..probably wise to trade him.

I never said I value RB over T.

I see it as a symbiotic relationship. Coverage and rush work hand in hand.

Vikings. Shut down Jefferson. Everything else worked. Seen Bellicheat use a DB to shut down best pass catcher for O to much success.

If we shut down Olave that first drive….Saints had nothing. He made like three catches that drive. That’s really all they did that game to win.

Nope. Goes both ways. A pass rusher can force a bad pass. But tight coverage can force a QB to hold and panic. Both a right.

What happens to that Dline of ours? Reddick had the cake matchup. It really failed. Hargrave didn’t get it done either.

Right...they didn't get it done and we got lit up.  The DL needs to be the priority....great point.

2 Superbowl seasons....totally dominant DL play at home... give up barely any points in 4 games..  2 Superbowls where the opposing OL could hold and the field was slippery...which neutralized our DL...and we give up 71 points.

Great example where 2 good defenses relied on the dominant DL play.

Oline can give a huge hole for a RB. Or they can give a crease. Quality RBs do so much more with what they are given than run of  mill guys.

  • Author

Exactly why we needed to draft Sanders so bad. Without a good RB you can’t take advantage.

I’m saying both. All the Secondary is deep…then you can’t go deep…unless you forcing it.

I’ve been saying 13 mil all season. But him not being happy about it and kind of balking at coming back has me reconsidering possibly.

Not the right kind of character guy…CGJ. If he is that upset about all that huge money we pay him at 13….that isn’t good.
