Holy crap... "War and Peace" post there.  I promise I will try to read it.

But .... hilarious on the radio.   I'm sure Ham will love this.   They proposed ...if there was a draft where all the GMs, coaches and players would be taken by the owners...  that Howie would be 1st pick.

Mahomes is only a QB.... he also has a good GM and coach.     Any coach you select will have to rely on a GM to pick players.

The argument is that Howie controlling the salary cap, trades,  free agency, drafts...  he would be first pick by the owners.

Was a great 15 minutes of conversation... on 94 WIP... about 4pm.

.. Elliot Shore Parks brought it up... good stuff.

He’s riding high as reigning GM of the year. But can’t just ignore that we fell short. Much of the success was really quite due to luck. Rosie acted at made it happen when it fell in his lap though. He worked for Ridley and Robinson first at WR. Think we easily can all agree those would have been bad moves. Ridley saved him by getting in trouble. Rams saved him by completely going overboard for Robinson.

Ham needs Cliffs Notes

Guess I should add AJ trade was a stud move by Howie in 2022

Voted GM of the year also last year. He may have topped himself this year lol

Top WR ready to go right away(not Williamson recovering) were out of reach in the draft without paying with and arm and leg. Hurts brought in his bestie by getting him to force his way out of Titanland.

Rosie embarrassingly ignored the Secondary last offseason. Then Bradberry was gifted us by our rivals. Glad Rosie acted. But that was a huge stroke of luck. No other real option to cover the other outside CB spot at that point. Would have needed to make a blockbuster trade likely overpaying to get anything close to Bradberry.

So how does "falling short" relate to Howie? I'm trying to connect the 2 and failing at it. Howie is doing the best job you can do at what he does.

We never draft secondary. IDK why this comes as an annual shock to you

Then had to swing a trade last second for a S. The plan was actually Harris starting. A guy that was over the hill clearly. Not guessing. He already made that bad move the year before. We saw…and knew. Terrible job and choices. Because then they brought in Tartt. Didn’t cost anything. So not killing giving him a shot for no losses. But it goes to show how bad Rosie’s offseason plan for the Secondary really was.

Week before first game forced to trade for a S. Had Epps. He’s just mediocre though. So one NFL S is egregious in today’s game. Great trade made for CGJ. Saints gifted us him.

I think we would like to draft a top corner but as they usually are gone before we pick, we default to round 4.

But Rosie was forced to make that trade because he had so poorly addressed that whole position group. Terrible when you consider three S play for the second most utilized personnel package DC deploy.

Last year the idea was to surround Hurts with weapons so he could not fail. Did we accomplish that?

Even still we got bailed out by Blankenship. Crucial that the undrafted kid worked out.

Traded for Quinn. Not sure anybody thought that was a good move. Just through that pick away. But I can deal with that some when you’re talking going for the brass ring.

IDK historically we just don't do it. We seem to like finding hidden Gems such as Blankenship. We took Jones in round 2 1 year and Zech in round 4 who never really panned out. I think we try to get the top pass rush. if you can do that it takes lot of pressure off the secondary

Rosie plays hard ball. With coaches, agents and players. He’s seasoned in negotiating. He trumps any egos by having a larger one and in the position of power.

OK so you don't see futures for last years draft picks?

Did I say anything about this years draft picks clearly said 2021. As I said for 2021 the only two guys that look to be locked to get extended past there rookie deals are Smith and Dickerson.

I did state I think it’s to early to judge the 2022-2023 drafts and I stand by that statement.

So do you sacrifice offensive weapons. Hurts has the best offense we've ever had IMO

So my point is Rosie has strengths. Really good at negotiating. Really good at realizing how important the accountants and analytics play a role. I believe he got Lurie on board to really invest in these departments more than most. Think he trend set that area a bit even.

Every GM bats 1000????

So then 3 good drafts/ off seasons in a row? That's fairly rare as I see it

I keep pointing out how the cap hits are being setup as an issue from Rosie. Because most GM can’t afford to be patient or do what’s best long term. So comparing him to shorter leash lesser in power GMs isn’t fair. Having more security afforded him the opportunity to get things squared away with the cap better. Could have cleared the cap more. Not sure why it isn’t glaringly obvious how paying for Brooks still now while we are trying to make our Championship run is considered wise? I’m not totally against pushing things towards the future and backloading are some point. I think you do that after you’ve cleared the cap and established a younger core team you can build on to run with for years.
