Welcome to the board Vermont, over on the cape here. Smith dressed for both games, had 1 tackle. He re-aggravated that pec in the pre-season so prolly on a light work load. Could prolly have had more reps w/ Reddick banged up, bad timing.

Watched a pre-game show this am. They listed best results by position but didn't have Swift on there whose stats blew them all away - no respect!

Luck is a big part of it.   The luck of having unexpected players develop and play well.

Look no further than Mr. Irrelevant probably saving Lynch's job in SF. Otherwise look at the disaster of acquiring a RB and Trey Lance....for a combined. ...three 1sts,  a 2nd, two 3rds and two 4ths.

Basically 8 draft picks for CMC.

The luck of Mr Irrelevant at the most important position in sports...  yet here its lack of investment on LB or S????  I think better chances to get lucky there with even better picks than Mr Irrelevant.

Still....either way, there is always some luck involved.

You are narrowing down relying on luck. You aren’t making your plan based on the last pick in the draft starting at QB…last season. This season they were though. You look for those gems polishing of DitR. But they have to be showing real polish having acquired them previously to rely on them as a real part of the plan. Like Blankenship. But last year he was in line as the number two as an undrafted. So had to make the drastic big move to trade for a S. Not much different this season. It’s looking like Blankenship might be even better than Epps now. But in the master plan…before TC. Epps as the only legit S is a little stronger version of the plan since he was more established at his level. Blankenship and a third round draft pick…needed a step up tier ability player bright in through FA. CGJ, Poyer, Thornhil, Epps…can’t remember them all..there were a couple more. Had to score somebody in that level. McLeod was a FA. Really needed above him with the second year undrafted and third round rookie. But went below him with Edmunds and Evans. Not good enough. Put so much on an undrafted guy being the clear top guy to carry everything….and the third round rookie. Sketchy plan at best. That’s even with both of them looking to turn out pretty  good. Edmunds and Evans fighting it out for the fourth S is about right. But had to sort through the S to figure out which were an option to even be obtained. If Rosie is working the cap fine. A 7mil S to lead the group shouldn’t have been unreasonable. Had to be the plan. That’s what it took. Just not doing an acceptable job to only acquire Edmunds. Have an undrafted starter in the room already. If that doesn’t help the team afford paying one S? I don’t know what would.

Then have a third round second year player that hasn’t played penciled, actually written in pen, starting at LB. Morrow was the only move when needing two LB to start? Not nearly a good enough plan. So he addressed it after Morrow looked terrible. Got a guy that was starting to become a plumber in retirement. Also Cunningham. That position room was screaming out needing a pretty high tier leader. If Rosie is handling the cap fine…shouldn’t be too difficult to field some decently paid player beside a third round pick. It’s a cheaper position. Not like LB are making WR money.

These are just the roster shortcomings if you are looking to be a real contending team. That’s the job of the GM. Gotta field a whole team to win it all. If you are just trying to be a real good team? Looking for the Bronze Standard? Then that was probably accomplished.

I still see things the same way happening with Rosie. 2017 SB. Then downhill eating the backloading of contracts. 2022 SB. Now hoping we can even be as good as 2018 this season. 2024…Kelce, BG, Fletch and maybe Lane gone. Several FA leaving. Have two outside corners another year older and slower recovery time.

Not that it will affect the outcome, dullass w/o Cooks today, doesn't nearly make up for AR out for the jets

Nice that the staff can sit back today in some La-Z-Boys and pick apart the Bucs. To see how they attack a running QB(Fields) and what Mayfields tendencies are. With Mayfield moving around so much have we ever played vs him?

So who was the guy you would spend for?

It's not good enough isn't an answer.    Pointing out a problem anyone can do...  provide the solution that was available if the job is so easy??

Again... 32 GMs should very easily complete the puzzle if there were guys available that were willing to come to their teams.

Obviously it's not that simple

I still see the Eagles ahead of SF with results.   Even after SF cleared that cap 6 years ago.

Again... 32 franchises are in competition for players.  Not that simple... that's why some teams have ti get lucky on Mr Irrelevant at the most important position.

I don't remember playing Mayfield ?

I just saw the CB stats from Thursday night... not good.

Not sure if this is the week to complain about LB or S.

You seem to think only the Eagles lose players to free agency or have great players retire. There's a good chance we lose some or all of Cox, Lane, Kelce, and Graham. I for one am damn glad i got to watch them for so many years.

There's this lettle thing called the salary cap. EVERY team in the NFL has to make decisions about where to spend cap money and where to go cheap. Consider yourself lucky you're not a Lions or Browns fan over the last 20 years.

I don't either. he's not a great QB,so nice we have the long week we can sit on the sidelines and pick them apart for next week

I(sadly) got to watch the Browns(by default) nuke themselves every year. Bad picks, bad off seasons crap staff for 35 years. it was like an annual observation for me. Back when people read newspapers(in the stone age) the Bengals took out a full page color ad that ran in the Akron beacon Journal and the Cleveland press. it was a picture of those green overhead highway signs. Above it it said "the only sign of life in Cleveland" then the highway sign that read "Cinncinnati 276 miles HAHAHAHA

My upset game this week. In a close battle the Jags take down KC at home

There is this little thing called a Championship Window. Under Rosie..it lasts one year.  We shouldn’t have to neglect positions entirely like this. Gotta balance things out a bit better than has been done. Dead money over pushing back the cap charges for years. That’s after the so heavily backloading of contracts gets us. Got Hurts for pocket change on the cap right now. But could only afford Morrow and Edmunds? Not like it’s being spent on the backup CB, S or LB. Not spending it on RB. Some how the Cowboys and Niners could spend on these positions under the same cap. No Mas and few others think those two teams are terrible at cap management even.

Could easily afford so much more if this year’s squad wasn’t saddled with the 4 win team’s bills.

  • Author

We’re to busy paying Hargrave on our cap to play for the Niners.

Watching Patrick Queen killing it right now. Dude is fast. Seemingly outran the slot corner to shut down the play. Imagine having him all the way in the middle like he was there. Then he covers all that distance to make the tackle for only a one yard gain….like five yards from the sideline. Watching him playing like this today…I’d consider trading a first round pick. As long as we can extend him for four years at the 12 mil…ish.

  • Author

I’d make that deal in a heartbeat if I knew the pick was number 32.

  • Author

Ravens have never had WR like this before. Duvernay, Bateman, Flowers, Agholor, Odell Beckham. Nothing close to this squad.

  • Author

All speedy and agile guys.

  • Author

Watching Queen today…probably underestimated his new salary. He’s looking like 16 mil today.

But can’t act like extending him will force that cap hit this year all the sudden with Rosie. Hits will be pushed back to four years from now mostly. Rosie will extend him again before that cap hit even kicks in really.

Let's be honest...the league was awful last year....so much so that Mahomes could win it without much help.  A lot of GMs doing poor jobs recently.
