To each his own, but his limitations are well known.  You even listed enough to know he isn't a starting caliber QB, even if we give him credit for "threw the ball away" instead of the more standard term of "incompletion"....granted that  is better than "interception" had he tried to fit it in.  And I don't really have him confused with anyone...maybe Tyrod Taylor.  All we have to do now is wait-and-see, but don't be surprised when Howie goes QB shopping by next Spring (if he waits that long).

I don’t know if he is a starting caliber QB. I have seen mechanics fixed.  My real questions about him is his reading ability.  I think it is too slow and thought that in college which is why I called him a one read and go QB in the predraft phase last year.  That isn’t something that tends to be fixable. And if that is the case, then he won’t succeed as an NFL QB.  Speed to release is a significant measurement for QBs for me and not a good stat for Hurts in college.  He seems smart (graduate transfer to Oklahoma).  He seems willing to work.  Experience can improve reading speed.  Sirianni may well focus on short throws and YAC like Indy did last year.  Hurts legs, especially if he learns to extend the pocket like that practice TD yesterday, may give him more time to read.  One thing that Doug and Press failed at was presnap play calling which pretty much negated the use of effective motion for QB reads last year.  At least in practice, Sirianni seems to be using motion more effectively. That may help Hurts with his reads.  But wishing him to bomb and presuming he can rise in ability is a horrible approach in my mind.  Let’s see what a season with OTAs and TC brings.

Same approach with Reagor and Fulgham.  Taylor and Bradley at LB.   Have Ward, Scott, Singleton peaked?  Can Jacquet use his athleticism to overcome his green as a CB.   Lots of questions for returning players.

I do not care who plays QB because unlike you I'm not delusional enough to think they can beat the top teams in this league with Hurts as the QB. Past that make a trade (which won't happen) or suck and get a QB in the draft next year. Being an Eagles fan doesn't mean I have to be blind to the obvious and root for mediocrity and be happy with it so we are sitting here next year talking about the same crap. Hurts is not the answer and the sooner they move on the better.

When did I say they can beat the top teams in the league with Hurts at QB.   I am not rooting for mediocrity.  But I can root for players to get better and even some of them to exceed expectations or even excel.  But I am not so omniscient to unequivocally conclude that Hurts is not the answer and the sooner they move on the better. He’s the Eagles QB at this point and likely for the year at least. Let’s see what Sirianni and Johnson can do before casting him out with the wastewater.

If you have a relative in college then use their school and info to get the student discount. It was $150 with Game Pass IIRC last year

That’s fraud in my book.  No dependent of mine is a student, nor am I. I can afford Game Pass easily. It’s not the cost of NFL Ticket that drives me as much as my dislike for how DirectTV as part of AT&T treats customers.   Game Pass is good for my needs.

How about thrown into the fire?   What QB from all 32 teams in the league do you think would have succeeded with what Hurts had to work with?  We know you guys don’t like Scott and Ward.  Goedert isn’t worth the extension he will get.  Pryor as LT? Or RT?  Seumalo needs to be replaced I hear regularly.  Herbig is the Stay Puff man.  Johnson is done.  Toth at RT.  Reagor is a bust.  But put Brady out there and he would walk on water.  Wilson will throw deep on post patterns to Watkins or Hightower all day.  Brees would make Fulgham look like the second coming of Michael Thomas.  I am not defending Hurts but what delusional alternate universe do you live in that you and Diehard can state that what AFan just said is the dumbest argument on this board.  I will ask you what I asked Diehard, who plays instead of Hurts this year?  JFC.

The two of you are arguing different points though, therein lies the problem. Sorry you can't see that.

I don't have a problem with people saying he had a poor supporting cast. I agree. Have never said otherwise. When people (afan) say he gets thrown in cold, didn't practice with the 1s, wasn't coached properly (as is if he really has a clue), etc it's foolish. It's an act as though Wentz went down the second drive of the season. It's dumb. You want to argue he got thrown into the fire against GB? Fine. That's fair. No argument.

Facts are he had almost an entire season to learn a playbook, took snaps on offense all season and then began to practice with the 1s as well. Sure he's a rookie and camp was messed up because of Covid, but we're still talking months of prep time to start football games. What, you think all rookies are absolved from "being thrown into the fire"?

Oh and by the way, being "thrown into the fire" doesn't really excuse the fumbling problem. It doesn't excuse the poor accuracy. It doesn't excuse the poor mechanics. Field vision? I'll give you that one.

We have people blaming Pederson. We have people blaming the team. We have people now blaming Sirianni. We have people blaming the new coaching staff. We have people blaming the new offense.

Maybe it's time some of you wake up and blame Hurts, too.

For your last question, sure Hurts should start the year because Mullens is also garbage and Flacco is a joke. However miniscule at least there is some chance Hurts improves. Good for him, he's the tallest midget.

When you said, "The Eagles are a serious contender right now" if that isn't you saying they can beat the top teams then what exactly are they contenders of?

I'm trying to think of the last SB winning QB who was a "play maker" that looked unimpressive to say the least throwing the ball their first year and can't think of one...because they don't exist. Swoop is spot on that he's the tallest midget, but that doesn't say much.

Agree. And you absolutely cannot see line play without All-22.

That is very true too.  I enjoy broadcast games but then go watch the All 22 to see what really was happening in the game.

I don't wish him to "bomb" and neither does anyone else.  I just think he is a mediocre talent as a QB, who was over-drafted.  Being fair to him, he was drafted to be a backup.  At this point as a starter, he will have A) improve BASIC QB skills across the board significantly and B) still play lights out to be successful each and every week.  He will be exciting running around all over the place, for sure, and there will be long score, broken play TDs.  That will be fun, but he still has all of the issues you listed and some of those are major adjustments to his game.  I find it shocking to think that there wasn't a concerted effort to coach these issues out of him at OU and Alabama, BUT they may have seen it was just easier to win with "same old Jalen" (especially in the Big12 where every Air Raid QB seems to rack up yards).

Listing those other guys as comps is cool, but let's not pretend that any of those others are playing the most important position in sports.  Hurts does.

So here we are.  I am sure that Sirianni is working every day to make him better, because he has no choice. I'm also sure Jalen is putting in the work, because he has no choice if he wants to succeed.  I think he will definitely improve, but that's a pretty low bar to clear.  Will he take a huge step?  Hopefully.  I hope he proves me wrong, but it is not going to remotely surprise me if Howie goes QB shopping soon.

Actually I was using sarcasm. Sorry it was lost on you.   Thought it was pretty obvious

How about a couple of HOF QBs, Peyton Manning and Kurt Warner?  Nick Foles.  Tom Brady in 2000.  Aaron Rodgers riding the pine but let’s look at 2005 and 2006.  Eli Manning 2004 and 2005. Patrick Mahommes mostly riding the pine in 2017.  Drew Brees his first three years in San Diego?  Other than Patrick Wilson, not a bunch of QBs that really impressed.  But some of those guys went high in the draft to bad teams.  Were the Eagles a good team last year?  You are remembering the QBs after they ascended but not the trip up.

Look, as I have said and even AFan has said, there are parts to Hurts’ play that concern us.  He may flop.  He may succeed.  We will see this year.  But like drafting Mahommes with Smith signed to an extension, Rodgers with Favre still playing well, etc., nothing should ever discourage a team with the QB from trying to draft a better option.

I am against a Watson trade because we need those picks for other positions and I don’t think the Eagles are close so at best we waste three years on a cap strapping Watson contract trying to rebuild with less assets to do so.

Well, Press Taylor as a QB coach.  Wentz’s mechanics got worse.  I wouldn’t trust him to fix anything.  You would be hard pressed to find someone who wanted Press out of that job more than I wanted it.

Pretty obvious that Sirianni is working on the fumbling.  Sirianni talked about Hurts needing to hold the ball with two hands.  Will he learn?  We will see.  I sure hope so.   Inconsistent accuracy can be not working with the receivers in practice or it could be a real issue.  Can be a receiver running the route wrong or a misread between the two and it can just be a bad throw.  I am sure Hurts had some of the latter.  I am not absolving Hurts of his play last year but it’s a small sample.  He ran to fast but that was his style in college.  So did McNabb.   We will see how it goes this season.  I suspect he will improve.  I can take disappointment or surprise by how little or how much.  I don’t want to be surprised by some of his corrections and disappointed in his field vision.

We are pretty much seeing things in the same light.  I wonder a lot about his being beaten by Tua at Alabama and suspect he is a better back up than starter.  I dread that he fixes everything except his reading speed.  That’s Ben Simmons playing All star defense but can’t shoot and is a foul shot liability level of a nightmare.

I have Game Pass.  Locally, because I am in territory, on it the game isn’t live (it is on my Eagles channel), but it is available immediately afterwards.  On occasion the Ravens or Steelers bump the Eagles here, so I always have access to the game.  I get for the All 22 because you can’t really see the secondary defenses and WR routes on broadcast TV.

Matt Alkire gets All 22 tapes of college games and regularly posts snips on his Twitter feed.  I recommend following him just for those.  Former poster on the Blog.

Hurts did slightly better than Wentz after coming in last year.

Simmons has to be gone; it would be organizational malpractice to waste another season on the belief that he can/will be fixed.

Who’s  left to trade with? Outside of a Portland trade for Dame which is a long shot most teams are done with trades and FA.
