I don't wish him to "bomb" and neither does anyone else.  I just think he is a mediocre talent as a QB, who was over-drafted.  Being fair to him, he was drafted to be a backup.  At this point as a starter, he will have A) improve BASIC QB skills across the board significantly and B) still play lights out to be successful each and every week.  He will be exciting running around all over the place, for sure, and there will be long score, broken play TDs.  That will be fun, but he still has all of the issues you listed and some of those are major adjustments to his game.  I find it shocking to think that there wasn't a concerted effort to coach these issues out of him at OU and Alabama, BUT they may have seen it was just easier to win with "same old Jalen" (especially in the Big12 where every Air Raid QB seems to rack up yards).

Listing those other guys as comps is cool, but let's not pretend that any of those others are playing the most important position in sports.  Hurts does.

So here we are.  I am sure that Sirianni is working every day to make him better, because he has no choice. I'm also sure Jalen is putting in the work, because he has no choice if he wants to succeed.  I think he will definitely improve, but that's a pretty low bar to clear.  Will he take a huge step?  Hopefully.  I hope he proves me wrong, but it is not going to remotely surprise me if Howie goes QB shopping soon.

College coaches are in the business of winning games, not developing NFL players.

In the college game the spread caught on b/c college teams simply don't have the depth at DB to cover 5 WRs.

So college HCs take athletic QBs with good arms and teach them to be 1/2 read QBs, then run. This goes back decades, McNabb ran an option system as Syracuse which limited his reads to half the field. KISS with a 19-20 year old QB and a big coaching contract at risk. This is why it's so hard to draft QBs and WRs these days, very few pro style offenses where QBs make reads and audibles, very few WRs asked to run a complete route tree and match ups against top DBs (move guys around the spread to set up mismatches).

The key to pro success is football IQ and hard work, work on improving mechanics, watching film, reps, reps, reps.

I think a lot of talented QBs fail because they're either incapable of speeding the mental processing, or in many cases, lack the fire to spend long hours of boring work to perfect their game when they've got $10-20M in the bank. Intangibles do matter, Brady is the GOAT b/c he worked his butt off, both to get much stronger and to understand what he was doing. He was lucky enough to be on a team with a great defense and a HC who put in an offense that provided quick, easy reads for three years before the harness was taken off. So he had time to grow into the job.

Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

Well done by Howie.  He freed up money for 2021... on a dead year, and pushed that money to 2022.  He's now over $33M (I believe) in dead money for 2022, a year after $49M in dead for 2021.   He's so good at what he does.

Can't they push some of the '21 cap space over to '22 to make up for dead cap? Isn't it just flexibility? Not a cap guy so just curious. Also not a Howie guy.

We are pretty much seeing things in the same light.  I wonder a lot about his being beaten by Tua at Alabama and suspect he is a better back up than starter.  I dread that he fixes everything except his reading speed.  That’s Ben Simmons playing All star defense but can’t shoot and is a foul shot liability level of a nightmare.

I think we are saying the same things.  I am just less optimistic that he will push past his limitations.  Hopeful, yes.  Optimistic, no.

No interest ins seeing Ben Simmons shoot now.  He had his chances to shoot in Round 2 and continued to be a shrinking violet.

Technically, yes. Let's see if its actually for flexibility though and not just Howies rainy day fund.

Maybe try standing still at the foul line for your next post.

I don't think he knows where it is.

He knows where it is. He just doesn’t know what to do when he gets there

Who’s  left to trade with? Outside of a Portland trade for Dame which is a long shot most teams are done with trades and FA.

Teams are only done with trades with the deadline hits.  Blazers didn't really do anything to improve their roster in the draft and FA after Dame expressed he wanted them to put a contender around him.  Just recently got back from the Olympics.  Sixers seem to be intent on waiting for Lillard to eventually request a trade.

If though I'm sure the Sixers could work something out with a team like the Kings.

I don’t see the Kings as a good fit. The only thing they have to offer that would help is Fox and there is no way they trade him. Buddy Hield is a nice complement player but not worth being the center piece of a trade for Simmons.

Blazers is the only team That may make a deal but do they really want to trade Dame? Also for Simmons? I don’t see it.

Daryl Morey is overrated. Already cost the team a Harden trade and now priced Simmons out of the trade market. He has never built a team that has made it to the finals. Unsure if I'm beating a dead horse or if this is contrary to popular opinion.

Blake Vandervelde

Blake Countess.  Now there is a name who has floated around the PS, or back of the roster, or camp cuts for a few years now...never entered the collective consciousness enough for me to know actually when his time here began or where he came from.  If someone told me he was a PS safety or backup safety from 2002, I'd have believed it.

Or Haliburton.

I don't know if he's horrible or great, but I'm just not sure what could have really been done to polish this turd of a Simmons situation.  He imploded before the entire country on prime time and is now making it publicly known that he's cutting off the franchise.  There is no way they get a piece for him in a trade that makes the team a title contender.  No way.

So do you get what you can to improve the balance/depth of the team while taking an overall step back in talent and all but acknowledging you are building a 2nd or even 3rd tier contender?  Or do you hold out for a miracle?

Either option sucks.

He was a Chip pick.

Oh no, we have to face NRC? Add this to the list of must watch games this year.

It won't be just one player the Kings would be sending over.  Hield would likely be an added side piece for whatever the Kings would be putting together to send to us.  I'd actually rather a package including Haliburton over one including Fox.  Haliburton is going to be a star and can shoot better than Fox.

Someone needs to post this video next to the one he posted last year, next to the one he posted 2 years ago where he was drilling innumerable 3's in a row, next to one of those funny photoshopped videos of 8 year olds nailing impossible shots, then tweet it at him.

So, he was.  I was off by a year.  Whoops.

Or, him shying away from a dunk in Round 2... or missed foul shot after missed foul shot, with the message... "What might you need to work on?"

Yeah but apparently Matt thought he picked a bad screen name.  Nice to have him back doing film work. He was always a pleasure to discuss draft prospects with.
