I don't think that is the case.  Talking about his play is not people wanting him to be terrible.  Sure, he had some Sportscenter highlight plays last year, but there is plenty to be critical of.

He completed 52% of his passes last year.  That dropped to under 47% in the second half.

Once NFL defensive coordinators adjusted to him at the half, he led the team to points on 2 of 22 second half possessions.

He also is coming from programs who do not exactly have a pedigree of producing top notch NFL qb's recently.

Top ranked Oklahoma QB's since 1999.

Baker Mayfield - Heisman trophy winner

Kyler Murray

Sam Bradford - Heisman trophy winner

Josh Heupel

Jason White - Heisman trophy winner

Top ranked Alabama QB's in the NFL

Tua

Hurts

Mac Jones

AJ McCarron

Hurts being the guy is optimal for the Eagles with the draft capital they have acquired, but there is plenty to be concerned about.

I get it - just seems like people don't wanna give him a chance.  Josh Allen's completion % was abysmal his rookie year.  And didn't Sam Bradford complete like 75% of his passes for the Vikings?  And that dude sucked ass

His throwing motion looks funny, but let's give him a chance.

Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

Sirianni's own comment on the throw to Reagor.

Quote

Head Coach Nick Sirianni noted after the game that he wants Reagor and the receiving corps to make those kinds of catches on "bad balls."

Bad balls huh? Probably should get those checked out by the team doctor

He is getting his chance.  In so getting that chance, he will be criticized where appropriate, even where not appropriate, such is the lot of an NFL QB.  It comes with the paycheck, the fame, the options for endorsements, etc.

I am not overly concerned if he turns out to not be the answer, as the Eagles have positioned themselves to find the answer next year.

I agree with him, he should have caught it, but the throw could have been better.  At the end of the day, he completed 3 of 7 passes, and none of those completions was to a WR.

Jackson had a similar throw he dropped, the kids have to understand that not every throw will be perfect, if it's off target, focus on the catch and bring it in even if you have to go to the turf and can't generate any YAC - b/c if you drop it, no YAC anyway.

I'll also add most beats are saying last night was the best Hurts looked all camp. If so, yeesh. One very good throw, one routine throw, one good throw that was dropped, one not great throw that was still caught, one overthrow and one underthrow with one patented throwaway™️

That’s a trademark symbol which is completely different than a patent.

It's both patented and trademarked!

He’s literally getting a chance by being with the starters in camp and preseason

That Tweet from PFF wasn't about their grading, their metrics or anything else, other than click bait and creating nonsense.  A legitimate source of information doesn't do that.

Yeah, I think you’re worked up over a tweet that most likely was tongue in cheek. You don’t like PFF so you’re over blowing it. Just like with some of Howie’s moves.

Hurts doesnt need to be top 5, top 3, "elite," any of that.  The best teams win super bowls, not necessarily the best quarterbacks.

Last 20 Super Bowl winning QB's, with the elite, top 5, maybe top 10 QB's bolded.  So 75% of the time, you need an elite top 5/10 QB.

Brady - 7

Mahomes - 1

Foles - 1

Manning - 2

Wilson - 1

Flacco - 1

Eli - 2

Big Ben - 2

Rodgers - 1

Brees - 1

Brad Johnson - 1

Good god.  We are not allowed to talk about the play ??  I did say it was a drop, but it could have been a better pass.  At the end of the day, he completed 3 of 7 passes, and only complete passes to the TE.  It is a pre season game, and he will get more reps.  But the next pass he completed to a WR in the pre season will be the first.

yeah he was 3 of 7 but 2 were clear drops (ertz, reagor) so easily could be 5 of 7 , he was off on the deep ball to watkins but was a decent throw that they will hit on with more time.  so it is what it was 1st live action. IMO the hate from 2 series is over reaction. i'm not anointing him either.

I think their QB ones are the ones people really give them flack on. I don’t think they are nearly as bad as people making them out to be. The times they seem really just off it’s usually around the QB and guys in the secondary. I feel like their defensive and offensive line grades are pretty accurate when i watch other teams.

I think their grades point you in the right direction in terms of a players level of play over the course of a large sample size, in a general sense. That’s as far as I take it.

But people in here will watch bits and pieces of games and remember some splash plays and act like their opinion is better. It’s laughable.

So what you're saying is, if you aren't elite you better have a) a unibrow b) an elite defense or c) a massive dong

Clearly very important on and off the field.

PFF is what it is... but it is not objective.  But, it tries to portray itself that way.   PFF is basically profootballtalk with numbers.  Both got hooked in with NBC and some how became 'legitimate' sources.  PFT by purchase by NBC Sports and PFF by Chris Collinsworth buying them.

Quote one poster who said this or has outwardly rooted for this.

They keep saying it, but still no quotes to back it up.  The problem is, they take statements like this as rooting from him to fail, not the facts that they are.

"Jalen Hurts completed 52% of his passes"

"Jalen Hurts completed less than 47% of his second half passes"

"Jalen Hurts led the Eagles to points on 2 of 22 second half possessions as the starter"

The only reason I posted a PFF tweet was to show the hold on the Quez TD, which it clearly does.  How did we end up down the legitimacy of PFF rabbit hole ????

Here is a non PFF tweet showing the hold so everyone can calm down.

Yeah, PFF was legit before Collinsworth.

Whatever, we’ve wasted enough of our day here.

Because Manu knows I dislike them...   so he has to push back on me, because he likes them.  So I push back on him.  Immovable object versus irresistible force.  But we know that by definition, they cannot both exist in the same universe.  Either there is an immovable object, or there is an irresistible force, and now we may be heading towards some sort of existential crisis.

It still isn't legitimate, but they do use numbers.  But, we again are back at the agree to disagree point, aren't we?

I do not agree with PFF most of the time.  They use numbers to fit a narrative.  When you don't have this performance graded as the #1 QB performance of the week, you look suspect.

And then you have stuff like this.

Eagles News: Nick Foles is PFF’s highest graded quarterback in NFL playoff history

I love Nick, but he is not the best quarterback in playoff history.
