Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

Was impressed with Jordan Howard last night, I didn't think he had a chance in making the roster and honestly thought he was done as a football player.

Reportedly he's in great shape and when Sanders didn't go Howard got the start.

He looked quick on his runs and on a pass block totally obliterated the rusher, just buckled the dude's knees.

I think if and when healthy Howard will have a role on this team.

But you can see how Flacco should be the starter from this graphic…

He’s so smart.

Did they seriously ask him why he threw it away?

Redefining the qb position as we know it by being willing to throw the ball away.

This Bills DL will be a handful

Not all QBs are capable of doing something so simple.  We should know from previous QBs.

I will say the Steelers’ punter did an excellent job of a dead ball kick and the coverage to keep the ball out of the end zone was very good.   All in all, the Steelers ST coach had to like what he saw on the punt coverage team but probably not so much on his KO coverage team. Bad lane discipline in the PS?  Not surprised. Eagles showed moments of poor lane discipline as well. Real curious what times you have for Sisposs.

They drafted him relatively high, I forget his name but the guy is a flat out stud.

Zaven Collins with a nice TFL.  Rondale Moore already involved and looking quick on WR screen

Forget Watson and that circus.  Go get Michael Thomas.  New Orleans open to trading him now.

Nah. F that clown.

Hurts has a tough road to win over people on a few fronts.  The original draft selection at #53 showed the organization lacked direction and commitment to their existing franchise QB -- even though they spent the money already, he carries the stigma of a one-read-and-run QB who doesn't have a cannon of an arm, nor is he an elite runner like Lamar Jackson (in spite of some in here asserting the contrary), and he was evaluated coming out of Oklahoma as a 3rd round prospect even though he put up similar numbers to Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield -- perhaps he was seen as a product of a system rather than a bonafide prospect?

I think most people have legitimate concerns.  While the national media and some casual football fans saw a young QB who injected life into an anemic offense last season, some of us saw limited upside and a habit of throwing late to the middle of the field.

No one thought less of Hurts as a prospect than me - not only did I think he wasn't a starter, I didn't think he was good enough to play in the NFL period.  When the Eagles drafted him I obviously hated it, not only because I disliked him as a prospect but because I thought it was stupid to draft a backup when there were so many other holes on the roster.

16 months later, I still hate the pick and still have all sorts of questions about whether he's a viable QB at this level.  But I do think there's a segment of the fan base that hasn't really given him a fair shot, and I would invite them to adopt my slightly more optimistic view for a couple reasons:

1.  He's on a rookie contract and counts pretty much nothing against the cap - if the Eagles elect to sign him long-term, THEN I might lose my ish.

2.  His speed is a real factor in an evolving NFL - no, 4.6 is not 4.4, and no one should confuse him for Lamar Jackson or Mike Vick.  But coaches are so much more willing to call designed QB runs now, and that opens up a lot that wasn't there before.  I think the position is in general easier to play than it used to be, and I actually think there are plenty of one read QBs succeeding in the league today.  These days it's as much about release speed as it is accuracy/vision.

3.  I don't think you need a great QB to win - this kind of ties into my first point, which is that the team and the coach matter more than the QB.  Theoretically, at his salary, we don't need him to be great, or even good - we just need him to be serviceable.  I think that's part of the reason he moved the ball in our offense despite mixed reviews at best from some of the evaluation services like PFF - which brings me to reason #4.

4.  He is not Carson Wentz - I don't have anything against Carson, but people were slow coming to grips with the reality that he's never been close to the same player since the injury.  I know the consensus is that he had a bad year last season (and he did), but really I think he's been one of the worst starting QBs in the league since coming back from that injury.  I expect the offense to look a lot better this season simply by virtue of having someone back there who's not physically and mentally broken

How many "serviceable" QBs have won a SB over the last 20 years? How many have even gotten there?

Right. So once in 20 years? Maybe Eli, as well.

Point is teams that are in the playoffs/SB consistently do much better than "serviceable".

Nick Foles

Peyton Manning (that year Denver was a shell of himself)

Joe Flacco

Eli Manning x2

That is off top of my head.

so 5 Superbowl out of 20? ill take that

I'd call Flacco better than serviceable, but okay.

I wouldn't.

Yeah you might strike and get lucky, it does happen, but teams that win consistently are teams with stellar QB play. It's the most important position in football for a reason. We had that in 2017 and immediately became irrelevant with no light at the end of the tunnel once that went away.

I’ve been canoeing and camping in the woods for a week with no cell service. What did I miss?
