Billy Davis was a terrible defensive coordinator. Some results may be blamed on poor DB play, but the scheme was awful. Let's 2 gap when the strength of the team is the front 4!

The only awesome thing about that defense was Connor Barwin. And he was awesome to watch. He was as disruptive in that defense as prime JJ Watt was at the time.

Everyone else pretty much stunk.

Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

Glad to see the guy I banged the table for prior to and during the draft last year (Quez Watkins) is finally getting his due.  I hope he continues to improve and gets a chance showcase himself this season.

Yup, I was high on Watkins ore draft as well, always thought he was better than hightower and said so a few times here on the boards, in the 5th when Watkins and hightower were both there I was bummed they took hightower it was happy that Watkins was still around and glad they took him very next round.

I was miffed that he didn't get any playing time til really late in the season glad he's taking his chance now and running with it!

Yet cox and curry had some if there most productive seasons in a 34.

Billy Davis moved cox around and put him in favorable 1 on 1 matchups to rush the passer

Unlike Schwartz who lined cox up same place every snap and predictably ran him into double teams all game.

That defense wasn't as bad as it's made out to be, the offense either scoring in 30 seconds or going 3 and out in 30 seconds was a disadvantage to the D.

I'm not saying Davis was great but the offense gave the D zero chance at success and the secondary was so bad it didn't help either

I believe more and more each day that Dillard won't be on this roster at the start of the season. Question now is what do you get for him and do you even care that much.

His trade value is either nothing or a conditional 6/7th rounder.  I lean towards nothing.

It's sad that a random group of us could draft better than Howie

Yeah it is.  I've actually never done that yet.  But been to the town a few times too walk around.

A few weeks ago we did a little waterfall tour around the area.  Bushkill, Dingmans Falls, and Raymondskill. Awesome views.

I want to go back in the spring and fall to see other colors.  Right now everything is just green,  but still really nice this way too.

Will be interesting to see who remains outside on the first team offense between Fulgham and Quez when DeVonta returns.  It's gotta be Quez you would think.

Why? He'll be 26 during the season and was only drafted in 2019. This team has needed depth at Oline for years. You think they'd get rid of him just because he didn't beat out Mailata?

I've mentioned this before, but does no one else see the irony? I'm not defending Dillard, truly, buts it's amazing that people declare he's a bust and completely write him off over four starts, but if you question/criticize Hurts after 4 games it's unacceptable.

What?

Because he flatout isn't good.  Just because he was a 1st round pick doesn't mean he would be good depth.  He's a bust, he cannot play well at the pro level.  He isn't even a valuable backup offensive lineman in that he can't move around to any other parts of the line.

He is already 26 years old so it isn't like he is some 23 year old player who still has a lot of growing and improving to do and he carries the cap hit of a 1st round draft pick when there are likely cheaper options on the team that can play tackle better than he can as a backup.

Exactly. He hasn't shown much but giving him up for peanuts in order to squeeze someone like Brett Toth  onto the roster, in a year we're not expected to compete, makes little sense.

Side note, anyone else going to watch Fields play in a bit? Wasn't big on him in college, but I'm curious to see how he looks.

Apparently he has looked good in camp

1. He has made zero progress despite making the physical changes thought to be necessary to make said progress. And he's being coached by a guy who turned a rugby player with no football experience into a starting LT.

2. He offers zero positional versatility. If he's getting body slammed by 250 lb DEs, how do you think he'll fare against a DT? He'd essentially be a weekly inactive 26-year-old project.

3. This might be the last chance to get anything in return for him. There's likely a GM or 2 around the league that rated Dillard as a top 25 player in the 2019 draft who'd be willing to give up a conditional pick for a lottery ticket LT on a rookie contract.

If he could play RT it would make sense to keep him as a backup swing tackle, since he doesn't aback up only LT doesn't bring as much value to a team

Guys like Herbig and Driscoll who can play up to 4 positions have immense value to a roster as backups, Dillard not so much, which will also decrease his value in a trade.

Maybe a LT desperate team would trade a conditional pick for him, Ive no idea teams those would be, I'm sure another poster may have a better idea, but aren't a lot of teams out there keeping a LT only on the roster as a backup, so if Dillard isn't starting at LT he's pretty useless and he's not starting over Mailata.

What?

The difference? Hurts, even in the worst case scenario (which is premature to assume no matter how many times you whine, "he sucks"), still adds value to a roster as a high end backup. Dillard is dead weight.

Okay so in conclusion it's okay to say someone is dead weight after 4 starts but blasphemous to say someone needs to work on things after 4 games. Got it. Thanks for clearing that up.

I think the difference is Dillard has been terrible in camp per reports, and to many comes off as "soft” which just doesn’t fly here. Plus people have a bias towards Mailata.

Hurts may suck, but it won’t be due to a lack of effort. That’s how it’s perceived anyway. Dillard will be on the roster, so we’ll eventually see it play out

I felt this way back in April/may. If he lost the competition to Mailata (personally believed mailata would be the starter unless they named dillard the starter for the fact he was a 2019 first rounder). Even if he improved and mailata was just overall better i thought they’d look to trade him to get some draft capital back. As a backup olineman the eagles like versatility from their backups. He can only play LT at the moment. So you are paying him first round money to be strictly backup LT, he hasn’t looked good in camp and now he’s hurt again. They have Driscoll who can play both tackle spots and Clark as well.

im one of the few who didn’t love that pick when it was made. He fell because he was an older prospect at 23 and 24 during rookie season, who had issues in every level he’s played with potentially quitting which the athletic discussed, needed to add strength and on top of it cause of the offense Wazzu runs he was a giant unknown in run blocking. He had great feet/footwork and was good pass blocker. I thought it was a huge red flag that he fell to where he did. Tbh i disliked that entire draft

FWIW I think Dillard sucks too, it's just funny to me.
