The darkest time? No. The worst coach? Not by a longshot. But I dunno the end of the Reid era was a pretty crappy time for Eagles fans. Went from dream team to the terrible Chip Kelly era quickly and had to say goodbye to a future HOF HC. It sucked. 

 

Castillo was  the least of the problems on that team and for not being a DC for 20 years before, again somehow did better than two lifetime defensive coaches in bowels and McDermott.

The end of the Reid era indeed did suck and in the end without all that happened maybe eagles don't win in. 2017.🤷‍♂️

I actually think Sam cassell is going to be a heck of a coach somewhere. I’m hoping if the sixers fail this year with doc they move on and seriously consider cassell.

Again both of those guys remained DCs and we're so successful they got HC jobs later on while Castillo went back to being a position assistant so going to go ahead and disagree with the assessment he did significantly better than either. Eagles ended up 9th in pass D in 2012 and landed Bowles a permanent DC gig in Arizona the next year. He won assistant coach of the year the very next year. 

Trevor Lawrence looks like he has added a cpl pounds 

Trevor Lawrence just threw a bad pass that was so short the WR didn't even have a chance to make an attempt on it.  Therefor by the standards held by some in this thread he sucks.

I'm not saying he did better long term as a DC than either of those two, I'm saying people Rip him for being a joke of a DC yet he did better that year and a half than two career Defensive coaches with the same players.

Pretty impressive for an OL coach.

Castillo is a coach, it's not a big stretch to say that any coach could go from offense to defense or vice versa and many do because it's all football, if one doesn't believe that than Castillo would have never gone from a college DC to a top NFL O line coach, why would it be such a stretch to think he couldn't go back to defense at the NFL level?

Like I said Castillo doesn't deserve to be associated with the constant jabs eagles fans take at him, he was an excellent I line coach for some really successful eagles teams and did a commendable job as a DC under really unfortunate circumstances.

Gets nothing but respect from me

308isn passes in team drills and only 11 TD’s for all TC. For reference, Wentz had 28 last year in about the same amount.

Dillard has played four games. He did well filling in for JP at LT. He sucked playing RT for the first time in his life with four days of practice.   The beats state he is soft because they think he cried out of frustration, once and because of one article that talked about him considering walking away from the game in high school.  At this time last year, we hadn’t seen Mailata play much at all and supposedly he was getting beaten by Ostman all the time.  The beats were questioning if he would make the team and the Eagles increased JP’s salary to play LT.  Today he was handily beaten by Sweat in the one on ones, so I guess he sucks now.  Dillard tore a bicep last year and tried to play through it. Now this year the beats love Mailata.  Slow motion his PS game against the Steelers and focus on his footwork and hands. He isn’t a polished product at this time but he looked okay.  Dillard has a knee injury.  How about seeing him play before we cut bait?  After watching Toth play LT, I expect Dillard will be much better.  Maybe not, but I expect he will be better than Clark or Pryor at LT.  

Putting way to much emphasis on Twitter and camp reports from reporters like ESP, Kempski, Wulf and Gowton.  Yes I have seen what Kaye, McLane, Zangaro, Berman and Franks have written too.  But they are reporting on 11 on 11 and 1 on 1.  They aren’t reporting on bag work, foot work, sled work, hand placement.  

Last year in camp, Mailata was getting killed on bull rushes. Because that is an area he needed work on so that was a focus.  Don’t you remember that is how practices worked when you were a kid?  Fundamentals and work to strengthen at places you need to work on. Dillard is returning from a torn bicep.  Got to imagine they are testing that arm.  He has shown he needed some work on anchoring so they are probably working on that. Now they are doing the same with the DL.  So the drills tend to be called to favor one side of the ball at a time.  If a DL isn’t winning the majority of the time in one on ones, they aren’t going to make the team.

To be fair, if Lawrence threw an accurate pass on that play, it might have been picked. CB was all over his WR.

I really don't think he did better than Bowles, but I will say that a year isn't really enough time to assess properly so I won't fight you too much on that.

I will fight the notion that going from DC with a DL background to OL coach at Texas A&M Kingsville, is remotely similar to going from OL coach to DC in the NFL 20 years later.  C'mon now.

You really think during those 20 years he somehow forgot everything he knew about defense, that meeting with JJ weekly to go over rush schemes to beat blocking schemes didn't help a coach with a defensive Coaching background ?

Whether or not Castillo's college coaching journey is similar to his nfl coaching journey  is beside the point.

The point is that when Castillo did get his chance to be a DC after 20 years of coaching offense he did well despite the narrative the local media created that Reid was an idiot and both were in over their heads 

If Castillo were in over his head and clueless he wouldn't have had a statistically better defense than the DC before and after him with the same players 

So like I said I think the laughing head roll is undeserved when it comes to Castillo's time as an eagles DC.

That year deserves a laughing head roll Howie deserves a laughing head roll, Washburn deserves more than a laughing head roll but isn't worth it, Castillo who did well under unbelievable circumstances is the last guy in that dumpster fire of a year that deserves a head roll.

Like I said I'll always stick up for Juan, he's a top notch human and a top notch coach

These are the things I'm talking about. These are things that need to be cleaned up. It's not about Reagor dropping the ball (which he should've caught). It's about the poor mechanics and as a result, a poorly placed ball. Keep in mind he has a clean pocket, so there's no reason to not step into the throw.

The play starts with his foot on the right hash. Once he finishes his drop, his foot is still on the right hash, albeit a little closer to the sideline. That's not stepping into a throw, that's picking your foot up and planting it.

Sidney Jones still on the Jags I see.....good for him.
