Not sure Field knows what a "dime" actually is.

I was watching it live and yes it was a good throw after a shacky start but a dime I don’t think it was. I’m switching between all the games happening now and on game pass in the jets vs giants game they aren’t killing the announcers mics during down time and I’m just waiting for them to do a thom brennaman.

Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

So I went back and slow motioned the miss on Hurts to Quez.  I think that was meant to be a timing throw and quite possibly the incompletion was both faults. Note at the 8, the CB is in slide mode facing towards the outside.  Now a few steps more, Quez does a stutter step but before that at the ten, the CB is already angling Quez toward the sideline so when Quez does the stutter, he is forced another yard toward the sideline.  The stutter does allow Quez to burst but it is too late because the ball is already on its way.  If Quez does that stutter at about the 8, the CB is committed to his slide move. A quick cut inside and he doesn’t get moved to the sideline and can burst to where the throw is going.  Now Hurts should have read the CB move and that Quez was going to be forced toward the sideline more.  It is a split second read.  That’s the kind of play missed in the PS that gets made in the regular season as the two become more acclimated to each other.

You really think during those 20 years he somehow forgot everything he knew about defense, that meeting with JJ weekly to go over rush schemes to beat blocking schemes didn't help a coach with a defensive Coaching background ?

Whether or not Castillo's college coaching journey is similar to his nfl coaching journey  is beside the point.

The point is that when Castillo did get his chance to be a DC after 20 years of coaching offense he did well despite the narrative the local media created that Reid was an idiot and both were in over their heads

If Castillo were in over his head and clueless he wouldn't have had a statistically better defense than the DC before and after him with the same players

So like I said I think the laughing head roll is undeserved when it comes to Castillo's time as an eagles DC.

That year deserves a laughing head roll Howie deserves a laughing head roll, Washburn deserves more than a laughing head roll but isn't worth it, Castillo who did well under unbelievable circumstances is the last guy in that dumpster fire of a year that deserves a head roll.

Like I said I'll always stick up for Juan, he's a top notch human and a top notch coach

No I don't think he forgot how to play low level college defense. There is a HUGE difference between that and becoming an NFL DC, I don't care how many times he met with JJ. Want to transition him to LB or even DL coach and see how he does?  Sure but position coach to coordinator in the other side of the ball is just silly.

And statistically better than the last year of McDermott's tenure here does not mean good. Seems like a good guy and a really good OL coach but his promotion to DC was silly and he rightfully fired quickly. Should Washburn have gone sooner and Howie gone as well?  Sure absolutely.

The play starts with his foot on the right hash. Once he finishes his drop, his foot is still on the right hash, albeit a little closer to the sideline. That's not stepping into a throw, that's picking your foot up and planting it.

Sure looked to me like his back foot came up.

Right. I never said he was flat footed. I said he didn't step into the throw. He picked his foot up and planted. He was open to the sideline.

That's why the throw was short, a little wobbly and had no zip to it.

He had so much time in the pocket. Honestly I thought it was under thrown a little bit 🤷‍♂️

Reid didn't fire him because he was a bad DC, the stats back that up and Reid said so himself, he said he put Castillo in a position that wasn't fair to him.

Not because Castillo was  unprepared but because of the undue abuse Castillo took from the local rabid media And the toxic environment Juan was in with Washburn.

Reid didn't want to hire Washburn, he hired howard mudd  to implement a zone blocking scheme and Howard Mudd said he would only come if they also agreed to hire his good buddy Washburn as a defensive coach.

Hiring washburn was the downfall of Reid with the eagles not the promoting of Juan to DC like the media made it out to be and again for a guy that hadn't coached defense in 20 years he statistically did better than McDermott and bowels with the same players both of which didn't have to put up with Washburn.

Did it seem unconventional at the time sure, in retrospect was it mistake making Castillo a DC?

The mistake wasn't making Castillo a DC it was expecting that the local media and washburn wouldnt do everything In their power to see them fail, which is why Reid ultimately let Castillo go because Reid made Castillo the center of an unwinnable situation.

In the End it all worked out, Washburn got fired for the piece of toxic waste he is, Castillo got a ring with the ravens, Reid got a ring with the chiefs eagles got a ring in 2017 !

And cowboys still suck!!!

Yup, done for the night 6-9 ,63 yards,2 3rd down conversions on two drives.

Not bad for his first action.

Whatever one thinks about Wilson as a prospect he has all the physical tools to succeed.

Destroyed 11 years worth of sentimentality from a future hall of famer? Really?

Yes.

Bad call against the rookie , was not a penalty on the sack , crazy get off

I’m just watching the raiders coverage of their opening game and I’ve just seen their commentary rehearsals live. They are doing it again now live. Funny stuff.

I just watched Sean Penn in The Fast Times at Ridgemont High last night.

Was yesterday a significant anniversary for that film ?

Haha the raiders broadcast team just did a retake and then you hear them say "I hope they recorded that so we don’t need to do that again.” Haha it’s fun.

Yeah, I think it was its release date. It's the first time I've seen it though.

The overreaction hype for both Lawrence and Fields is going to be nauseating this year.

I will say that the raiders stadium does look great with fans in it.

Okay because for some daft reason I saw a tweet from the Go go’s saying their song was in the film which I never knew.

I’d be willing to bet there’s overreaction to wentz and hurts all season on here too. Great ready for the fun! :pizza:

Well fields did grow into the game earlier today after a Rocky start. His second TD past was to the receiver wasn’t exactly covered well.

As much as I like Charles Woodson I’m now seeing his opening video for the third time. It appears this is for real.

Ostman already won Nasty Nate once.  There's never been a repeat winner.

At this point, I think that Ostman gets his own award named after him.  This guy has been hanging on, doing nothing and yet people are still excited for him to play.  What is this, the fifth year with this guy?   Its remarkable.  Nate only had one preseason, this guy has been a story for half a decade!
