Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

We have 24-25 spots on offense.

QB(2): Hurts, Flacco
RB(4): Sanders, Scott, Gainwell, Howard
TE (4): Ertz, Goedert, Jackson, Rodgers
WR (5): Smith, Reagor, Watkins, Ward, Fulgham
OL (10) Mailata, Seumalo, Kelce, Brooks, Johnson, Dillard, Dickerson, Herbig, Driscoll, Clark

This gets easy if we keep 2 QBs and trade Ertz. It gets hard if we keep Ertz and want Mullens.

Be willing to bet one of those two guys is here but not both.

I think the 53rd spot for the Eagles is almost always a developmental.  Plus you figure at least two OL inactive too, so one of those can be developmental.  I figure the next two years the Eagles can go heavy on developmental players that might get plucked.  Hopefully less PS plucking again like last year.

This discussion seems to be spiraling in all sorts of different directions. To be clear, Johnson makes no sense as a 53rd player. A player like him should only make the team if he’s active and a special teams contributor.

For the record, I don’t think he makes the team.

That's a no win...however Fields pans out has zero to do with Howie.  This draft is 100% on Smith staying healthy to justify not making a trade with Chicago so they could take Fields there.  A lot would rather have had the extra picks.  About 90% around here were hard no's on Fields.

We don’t have a QB. If Fields becomes a franchise QB of course that has something to do with Howie. It says he missed his evaluation.

16 man PS again this year

How do you add people to the ignore list? We have a new troll and I think for the first time ever I'm going to add one.

This stuff is not written down anywhere, but it’s all common sense.  Every roster has a couple guys who are young developmental talents that were not particularly close to one of the 53 best players.  And the goal is that they never really play.

And every roster has some low upside guys who slot into reliable ST roles and at least know where to stand and what to do if their number is called on O or D.

Those 2 types supply the last 5-10 players on the roster.

I would guess at least 4 players from other teams  , will end up on birds 53

I view it this way, if hurts pans out to be as good as fields then no one will say anything.

if hurts doesn’t Pan out and fields winds up being a franchise QB then you’ll definitely hear people talk about how they evaluated hurts as he could potentially be the next "russell Wilson” meanwhile they didn’t think fields would be very good. The knowing the fan base they’ll be snarky with comments about the QB factory

If hurts pans out to be better than fields then they look good for passing up fields.

Again, it doesn’t matter what the fans did or didn’t want. It’s his job to make the roster better. If Fields turns into the next Mahomes, and he was there for the taking when the QB position was completely unsettled, that’s on him. No win, sure. But he’s the guy with the flashy title, cashing the big checks. Too bad if it’s no win, he has to deal with it. If he doesn’t like it, he can quit.

Yes his job is to make the team better but should all 32 GM's fired themselves for passing on Brady 198 times?  That's what we're getting at here pre-empting this kind of revisionist history.

Keep in mind when predicting the 53, that as far as I’m aware it’s the same practice squad rules as last year. So every week the Eagles could elevate two players based on need. This is where the Johnsons, Mullens, Howards, Huntleys, Rodgers, run of the mill depth should be. Keep the guys with potential like Gainwell, Jackson on the 53

Off topic-  if you guys have friends/family who are Afghanistan vets it might be a good day to check in with them. I spent six years there, and a lot of my marines and teammates are struggling today. If you’ve seen the video of hueys being pushed off carrier decks as Saigon fell, this is that day for us. Might be worth checking in on anybody who struggles with their experience/service. Thanks boys.

This hurts...IDK what went wrong.  We toppled that regime with a squad embedded with locals and now this.

Big difference between passing on a guy who had a low round grade who happened to turn out great vs passing on a guy who was never dropping out of the first round.

Not really, we added one of the best prospects in the draft.

No it's not it's just an even more egregious case of hindsighted misjudgement,  By your measure Howie made a real mess of pretty much every draft since we won the Superbowl because he didn't take Mahomes, Watson, Allen or Herbert all of whom have had at least one season better than Wentz career best, 3 of whom have managed to win a play off game and they would all undoubtedly be our QB1 now.

Because in situations like Afghanistan and Viet Nam, who governs has a lesser impact on folks just trying to scratch out a living.  You probably understand the Afghan tribal culture better than I do.  But in Viet Nam, in the countryside it wasn’t highly capitalist anyway.  A lot of communal type.farming and small family, communal businesses.  They could care less about the whole domino theory and Russia v the US.  Ho Chi Ming was a hero in fighting the Japanese.  The sun would come up tomorrow and little changed in many folks day to day life.  While Afghan will be tougher for women, they aren’t exactly swimming in power in the culture there as it is.

Pete got most of it right:

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again, no, no

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Though I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?
Yeah

There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again, no, no
Yeah

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

Please. You aren’t QB hunting every year. This is just ridiculous to even compare. They also didn’t pass on or were ever in position to draft Mahomes, Watson, Allen or Herbert, so that just makes this all the more ridiculous.

That's 11 OL listed.

I would hope to see Ertz and Dillard gone.  I can envision they keep Dickerson on PUP to help retain other guys when they cut to the initial 53.

I don't see any way around that.  And inevitably, they will likely have an injury on the OL that will free up a roster spot for if/when Dickerson can be healthy enough to come off PUP.

88 billion in tax payer money over last 20 years to train 350,000 troops , so they can fold like a house of cards to the Taliban in 2 weeks .

You can’t train a backbone

And we weren't QB hunting this year, what about this concept don't you get? Your view is we should have been QB hunting because Fields may turn out to be better and if he is Howie failed scouting, well Brady is pretty much the best to ever do it and every scout in the league failed, and we failed to take at least 4 QB's better than we had since 2017. We could've traded our 1 and Wentz to pick Mahomes or Watson and it would've been the right thing to do because both are absolute blue chip QB's, while Wentz ****ed his way to a salary dump trade to Indianapolis.

Have to disagree here. There have been a number of reports that they tried trading up even higher for a QB. Then there was this whole "we're in on Watson" fiasco. The team won't name Jalen the starter. Many of the promotional material going out leaves Hurts out.

They may not be as in the hunt as say the Jags, but I think you're kidding yourself if you believe they weren't looking to upgrade from Hurts.

Tommy Tremble and Shi Smith making big plays in the Panthers game vs. the Colts.

Was hoping Eagles looked at one or both of them in the draft.

The bravery of the soldiers who fought should not be obscured by the stupidity of the generals who ill-advised their civilian superiors, and the state department types who bought the myth that you can rebuild countries from scratch. The collapse of Afghanistan was inevitable, it was only when, not if, in the same way Iranian dominance in Iraq was inevitable. The primary villain was Donald Rumsfeld and his neo-con allies, but there were too many who should share the blame, including the well meaning liberals who wanted to export Democracy and human rights at the point of a gun to places where they were considered foreign weeds to be eradicated.

It is necessary to project force and smite our enemies, but Teddy said it best:  "speak softly and carry a big stick." Too often we have promised too much and stretched ourselves too thin. We cannot reshape the world in our image, and our attempts to do so only create more enemies. We can uphold our principles, but realize that we have no business spending American lives to ensure education for Afghan women. We obtained our freedom with foreign help (the French), but it was Americans who did the bulk of the fighting.

When we put our sons and daughters in harm's way, it should be with a clear understanding of what we want to accomplish, and with the humility to accept the limitations of military power. They shouldn't fight for vague goals, or to support American business but to protect our country and our vital interests.
