If you’re not going to discount what guys are doing now, then would you not discount what they were doing the first week of camp?  Because he was struggling the first week of camp.  Or does not fit your argument right now?  
 

You have odd takes. This one and the one claiming people have been calling for him to get cut.  You have your hands full tonight.  

My "claim" is that people have given up on him. I remember seeing 1 post were someone suggested we "cut JJAW and Reagor now," but I never made that (wanting him cut) a condition for having "given up" on him. Someone else did. 

 

My "who cares" is a reference to the many times someone in a discussion all of a sudden pulls out a penalty card by suggesting I can't use that example or compare this player to that one. I can do whatever I want. If I want to compare a player to some HOFer to make a point, I will. If I want to compare practice success to future success, I will. There are tons of guys that don't make it. Na Brown caught everything in practice and dropped everything when he came into a game. Yes, there is more than one possible outcome. Our offense has played extremely well for two scrimmage practices against a team NFL.com is ranking as the 7th best defense in 2021, that (also according to them) has the best CB duo in the NFL. Nobody is telling you that you have to be excited. But I'm going to take this as a positive, myself. I remember watching players like Cole , Celek, Foles, Mailata, etc ...  look pretty good in preseason games and go on to be good players. I've seen players like Dion Lewis, and Mostert have strong preseasons and not make the cut because of numbers but still go on to contribute to their next teams. 

Again, my point is that good players should stand out --- especially more than 1 day. Now, you're suggesting that if a player struggled during the first week of camp, but then got better by the end of camp, that I should be "worried" in some way?

I agree.  Those defenses of the pass happy Big12 will get more and more play.  I believe the 3-3-5 is also in play more often, because of where/how the 3rd "LB" attacks the play.  He can be rolled up as a DE for 4-2-5 look or stick 3-3-5 with a 3rd LB or even a 2LB/6DB look.  Very flexible package.  Very multiple.

It's amazing how stuff moves from college into the NFL on both sides of the ball.  The zone read, bubble and tunnel screens,  jet action/sweep, and spread all were big in college first.

It's a nice snag by Reagor for sure. I don't want to see him fall in love with the one-hander though. I want to see him use two hands.

Also, I want to see him handle press coverage waaay better than he did last year.

He's got a ways to go in my book still, but it's nice to see him make some plays in camp at least. It's a start.

But I expected that from you and the likes. If he would look bad you would be the first to accept these trainings as meaningful. Because your opinion was made up on draft day and nothing he does will change your mind on him.

Obviously, we have to rely on social media, but there are some pretty good clips out there and plenty of media tweets every practice. It sure looks like they're in pads, unless you're choosing to believe in CGI. 

I'm wondering how you got the information about Reagor's "bad week." I guess you were in attendance? Or are we both getting the information from the same sources? Does only one narrative get validation from these sources? 

If you want me to post a whole bunch of tweets from different sources to make my case, I can. It shouldn't be necessary since most of them have already been posted in this thread.

Sirianni had a good set of comments in a presser about Reagor.  Saying he is using the tools he is being taught and starting to excel at some things.  That sounds positive.  The guy came in really raw after playing in a system that didn't translate well to the NFL with some awful QB play, but still dominated with the ball in his hands at that level.   Maybe, he just needed some coaching and a normal offseason?  I think he has talent, good speed, and the ability to make some elite grabs (as we are seeing some now).  I think he is going to surprise some people this year.

I disagree. In fact, I challenge people to provide proof of this claim. I see people saying this a lot, but video seems to counter it most of the time. 

Those are just college videos, that show he already understood details at that level. Obviously, there are more things to learn in the NFL, but he has been showing understanding there as well. 

 

For the sake of the blog and the franchise, I just want Hurts to definitively settle this debate this year.  Either be a stud franchise QB and make most eat heaps of crow, or show that you aren't an NFL qb.

I really don't want to see a gray area where the apologists say that he did a really nice job considering his inexperience and surrounding cast while the haters say that he didn't play well at all.

Best for us all if this ship veers hard in one direction.

For sure. Things were so bad it’s nice to see him show something. Frankly he seems so emo that he needed the confidence boost. He’s a complicated guy.

I'm not sure where that leaves the bar in your mind. It's very rare for QBs to be stud franchise QBs during their first couple seasons. Are we talking 2nd season McNabb or Mahomes? 

I mean, realistically, I don't expect him to be an All Pro in year 2. I do expect to see improvement. I'd like to see completion percentage over 63%, less fumbling, leadership on display, command of the offense, and strong play in clutch situations.

That preseason made me realize just how much i hate preseason. Cause everyone hyped up captain checked down Sammy sleeves like he was going to finally live up to the franchise QB billing when the Rams drafted him. Since then i don’t buy much until i see it week 1

I don't care about the routes Reagor is running when the CB isn't pressing him. That's not difficult. I want to see him run a really solid route with a DB right in his face.

Reagor has always been, and probably always gonna be a guy who can make the spectacular catch, but then is going to occasionally drop an easy one.

That was him in college. Last year, he didnt make any of those spectacular catches. Hopefully hes got it back.

It’s shocking how poor all of our WRs’ attention to detail was last year. Reagor was awful. Fulgham couldn’t run routes at the correct pace to help create space with our route combinations. Ward did the same occasionally. Hightower allegedly was our best route runner and pretty much got pushed around at all times. 

It was shocking to hear Avant talk about that receiver room and how sloppy they were when helped coach the unit. It was even worse when we heard Reagor talk about having a purpose with every route — inside or outside release to create space for not only himself but the other War in the route combination. Slow playing the release to allow the other player to clear. Crap like that. It makes me wonder what the hell Aaron Moorehead was doing last year. 

I don’t expect rookie WRs to be finished products as rookies, but how in the hell were they not taught that, like it’s some kind of foreign thought?

How often will he line up against press? It’s silly to disregard his route running when not facing the press. It all matters. And you can set your formation to keep him off press.
