Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

The two years after the SB, with Wentz at QB, Eagles scored 23 and 24 ppg. Last year down to 21 ppg, but that was a mess.

So if under Hurts, they match or exceed those numbers, he's doing fine - because that's the only stat that really matters for a QB.

Some very nice routes there.  Always a good sign to be spinning the CBs around.  Not sure who he was matched up against, but its a good sign.

Could also just go back and watch colts vs. Patriots playoff/afc title games in the early 2000s and see what New England would consistently do to the colts WRs.

Rather not

I’d claim Sims and kick the tires for a couple of weeks. Slot only WR but has experience as a PR/KR.

Final roster cuts are in 8 days. I think they can do better.

I think he's going to be good if he stays healthy and doesn't develop the eagle's dropsies

How about it's something every quarterback needs to work on

Especially a QB with only 4 NFL games under his belt.   This reliance on Hurts' college experience to excuse his lack of NFL experience as a way to defend the plan to limit his PS snaps is just misguided.  EVERY college QB that comes to the NFL, every one without exception, has a steep learning curve from what they experienced in the NCAA (regardless of pedigree) to the NFL game.  Some curves are steeper than others, but they are ALL steep.

Hurts needs reps... period.  Every rep he gets is a good thing, every rep he misses out on is a missed opportunity.   I don't want to hear about the fear of injury.  This team isn't going anywhere this year, and will only go as far as Hurts can develop.  The faster Hurts develops, the better... and the sooner the team could potentially become a top contender... and the way to get that development is through reps.  There is no substitute for that.

Was just reading through the Ringer's fantasy draft guide, and the projections are based on FanDuel's projections. For Hurts, they have:

4249 passing yards

25 TDs

545 Rushing

6 Rushing TDs

Would you be happy if he ends the year with those kind of numbers?

Depends. I think Hurts is going to be a better fantasy QB than an actual QB.

Which is why I've learned to ignore QB stats, with the current rules it's easy to inflate numbers without helping your team win.

In the end, the QB's job isn't to pad his stats but help his team score points (and avoid turnovers that lead to the other team scoring points).

So all the yardage gained between the 20s amount to little if they only lead to a series of long FG attempts.

That is just such a completely simplistic view of how to grade a QB, and divorces it completely from any context for how the points came about.

Is it better to score 21 points in a game where the score is 14-20 going into the 4th quarter and the QB leads the team to a final TD to win the game, while the defense is doing every thing they can to stop you... you need to pass, you need to move the chains, you need to do it under pressure...

or is it better to score 24 points in a game where the score is 35-17 going into the 4th quarter and the QB leads the team to a final TD, running and picking up easy yards with his legs, because the defense is sagging back and stopping the big play, taking away the sidelines and allowing the QB to run for yards because it keeps the clock running.

24 is greater than 21... so I guess the 24 points is the better QB performance since there were more points scored in that game, but I would argue that I'd rather have the QB that puts up 21 in the first game, than the QB that puts up 24 in the second.

Context matters.  Stats divorced from context is meaningless.

Biggest takeaway? I don't want anyone else on that list more than Mailata (ok maaaybe TJ Watt or Marcus Lattimore, but you get what I'm saying...).

Mailata, Goeddert and Sweat need to be priorities.

not with a 17 game schedule, thats only 12 points per game from him, thats not enough

I expect him to have a statistically good year

I know it's preseason, but Zach Wilson looked spectacular for the Jets against the Packers. So poised.  Works through his reads.  I haven't seen him play much, but that was impressive.

Closer to 13, plus you'd have to consider FGs, rushing TDs by backs, etc.

Either way that's a step in the right direction, but not enough.

23 of 31 teams scored at least 23 PPG last year.  The QB can look like garbage and still score that many points.

Yeah, but he ignores stats and uses the eye test.

That's the real test.

I'll bet he doesn't have anywhere near that many passing TDs (although his game does lend itself to long broken play TDs).  I think he will have more rushing yards and TDs than that (with corresponding fumbles), given his tendency to "one read and run".

My concern is that it is enough for Howie.

Watched Zach numerous times, kid has all the talent in the world, big arm quick release can run a little can throw from different arm angles and is accurate throwing on the run.

For alot of fans his pro day workout was the first exposure they saw of him and some of those amazing throws he made, for BYU fans like me we saw Zach make throws like that weekly.

if he doesn't succeed it won't be for lack of talent.

We'll see how he does, he looks promising.
