Feel the same way about Jameis. He’s always had the talent to be a really good player. He has even had flashes at times with the bucs. However he has some of the worst decision making and turnover issues. It’s still incredible to me he threw for 5000 yards to lead the NFL in passing yards, had 30 tds and yet somehow managed to also have 30 ints.

Great athlete who was less than the sum of his parts - and a good example why measureables are overrated, he had size, speed, athleticism but didn't come close to being the player that a slower, less athletic TE taken ten picks later became - because LJ lacked instincts or a high motor, had questionable hands and was prone to dings.

Agreed, the turnovers killed him. I'm not going to argue he's ever going to win you any hardware but he could be a serviceable QB and maybe make a wildcard if he can not make so many bad decisions.

LJ wasn't awful, he was disappointing.

I wanted Witten in that draft, I thought he was the best TE in that draft, was ecstatic when he dropped and fell right into the eagles Laps, that disintegrated quickly when Reid pulled the trigger on the home town scouted much more athletic TE in LJ Smith.

LJ was a great athlete not a football player like Witten.

I'll never get over pics of LJ Smith and McNabb hanging out at a club with some chick getting drunk, meanwhile Witten was probably at home watching tape, as was Chad Lewis...

LJ Smith had more athletic ability in his pinky than Chad Lewis did, but Chad Lewis was a football player LJ Smith was a waste of time and space.

That was a wild season, especially capping it with a pick six to lose the game for his 30th INT. Just about as wild as you can get.

Would you rather take a 6th/7th rounder for him, or let him play out this year? In a contract year, we may see him put forth a good effort and become a bit of a safety net for Hurts. If/when he walks after the year, you may get a decent comp pick if he has a good year and signs a decent contract after. 

The downside is he would be taking away targets from Goedert ostensibly. And it would be nice to be rid of the "drama", though I don't think it's really that bad. 

Edit - re-reading this, there's a lotta "ifs" built in. But I figure we aren't going to be doing much this year anyway in terms of competing.

I was watching that game with my friend at a bar. And we both said when it went to overtime how it would be fitting if this game was lost on a pick 6. Then it happened and we couldn’t believe it. 

not making any excuses for Jameis Winston cause i don’t think it was just his vision. but I do wonder how poor his vision was and how much it was effecting him to the point where he decided to get Lasik

Since the Eagles won't be signing a lot of FAs, Ertz could bring a 4th or 5th rd comp pick if he has a decent season and signs a 3 year deal else where.

So I'd hold out for a 4th, a 3rd is too ambitious, a 5th or worse might as well go for the comp pick or wait for more injuries.

You are being very optimistic.  But, I think the time to move on is here.  Save the money on the cap, get something in return, and don't let the past get in the way of the future any more than necessary.   Moving Ertz means moving back to much more 11 personnel and much less 12.  It paves the way for more of Smith, Reagor and Watkins to play together with Hurts... and forces Hurts to throw more to WRs and less to TEs.   All good things for development.

Could be part of it for sure. I think Arians also just told him to let it rip, whereas I think Payton is more methodical and less forgiving of mistakes. We'll see I guess.

If all the saints offer is a 6th I'd keep Ertz, but Id think they might offer more and I'm sure Howie wouldn't trade Ertz for just a 6th as if that were the case he would have traded him long ago
