I think a 3rd is a bit optimistic but Howie has been shown to get the most out of trades, I guess it would depend on how desperate the saints are.

Definitely like that under Arians. I like Arians but when he’s been greatly successful it’s been with veteran QBs who were established and knew what it took to be good or great. Palmer was coming off down years with Oakland but he didn’t just rely on his god given talent. He understood what it took to be successful and that helped when he got into Arians system. I think Winston believed he could succeed and be great due to just his talent. I think he needed a coach like Payton and it’s possible learning under brees might be the best thing he could’ve asked for in his career. This whole experience might have humbled him and forced him to grow up and learn what it takes to be a good/great qb which is more than just physical talent

Edit - re-reading this, there's a lotta "ifs" built in. But I figure we aren't going to be doing much this year anyway in terms of competing. 

This year isn't about the wins and losses, its about player development.  The draft in 2022 will be loaded due to the Covid influence that really sunk the 2021 draft.  So, a later round pick is of higher value to me than it normally would be.   AND... its the old 'a bird in the hand versus two in the bush'.  I move Ertz, I free up money, I get a pick, AND I have a chance to force Hurts to use his WRs more (I outlined this a little earlier).   Keeping Ertz means a much bigger gamble and really, not much more upside, if any.   Ertz could just as easily retire as go to Free Agency.  Who knows the future?   Give me the sure thing in this case... 10 out of 10 times.

I'd be happy with a 5th.  I'd settle for a 6th.  I'd be ecstatic for a 4th.   A 3rd?  I'd be in disbelief.

It’s a 1 v 1 but I’ll take it.

I think once you get down to a 6th, maybe even a 5th, you might as well get what you can out of him on your roster this year...  I wouldn't bother for less than a 4th...

The Eagles have a top 10 DL and the Jets have a bottom 5 OL, so this shouldn't be surprising.

So I'd hold out for a 4th, a 3rd is too ambitious, a 5th or worse might as well go for the comp pick or wait for more injuries.

Doesn't matter the amount of FAs they sign.  If just one FA is in the neighborhood of Ertz' compensation, they'll cancel out.  

Also, any comp pick will be in 2023.  A trade now could be for a 2022 pick.

With Beckton and now AVT they should at least move up to the middle of the pack eventually, but yea, they are still pretty bad

Also the money off the books this year that can roll over into 2022. So you get the 2022 pick plus some roll over cap.
