But why is Mailata always holding his own in 1 on 1s while Dillard is always getting beat by guys who won't end up on any teams roster? 6 minutes ago, Alphagrand said: You don't find it even a little suspicious that, according to the beat guys, Mailata hasn't lost a single rep all camp while Dillard hasn't won a single rep? Yes it's all a conspiracy by the collective media. That explains it.

He has never been listed above 365 and supposedly lost around 25 lbs this year. So let’s say he is 6’8” and 340. Pryor is 6’7” and 332 and 260 lbs DEs have no problem getting around him. Mailata does it with 5.08 forty speed whereas on Pryor is is fat and he moves much slower. Pryor relies on his bulk to much. Mailata tries to move and punch so that bulk stays in front of the DE and punch so the bulk uses its momentum against the DEs momentum.

Baldy said in the video he is up to 380 because he feels better playing at that weight to avoid back injuries like in the past.

Looking ahead, Gainwell could be a part of the decision-making process regarding a Sanders contract extension. If he looks like fellow Memphians, Pollard and Gibson, it may make sense to let Sanders walk.

Earlier in camp there were reports of Mailata having ups and downs. Maybe they just have something in him. We don’t hear about Lane Johnson getting beat either. Not saying he’s LJ but maybe he’s just having a great camp. It’s also not that Dillard isn’t winning reps..he’s getting put on his back…a lot. You would hope they put some wins out there for Dillard to increase his value but if he’s not winning or even looking good that’s hard to do.

This from Caplan earlier in camp that I read elsewhere as well: “- You might recall that on a recent pre-training camp ITB that we heard that LT Jordan Mailata lost 25 pounds. It's certainly noticeable and that has not been lost on the head coach. "I think Jordan came back in phenomenal shape. He had a target weight that he was trying to come back at and he came back at that weight. He came back lighter, he came back more fit and it's showing out there. And so he's just a big man that can move like a little man, right. And so I'm really, really happy with the way and happy for Jordan that he came back in the shape that he did because, you know, that's the key, right, going against those athletes that he's going against on the other side on the defensive line, he's going to have to be in the best shape of his life. I think right now he did come back -- I've only known him for a short time but he said to me, and the strength staff have said, he is in the best shape of his life," Siranni said shortly before Saturday's practice.” When Jordan was drafted, he was 346 lbs. Given Baldy’s tendency toward hyperbole, and what looks like a smaller gut, I suspect Mailata is in the 340s. A fat gut is weight on the back (I know only too well) so bulking to 380 makes no sense to ease back problems.

I don't believe that Dillard hasn't won a single rep. It is also hard to believe that Mailata hasn't lost one. But, I trust our beat writers' opinions on 'winning' and 'losing' reps about as much as I trust Cookie Monster to not leave crumbs behind.

Either way hope he stays healthy.

It is about much more than his weight... and being 6' 8" can be a hindrance to anchoring without excellent technique. If a shorter, lighter player can get under the pads of the bigger, heavier player they can absolutely put them on roller skates. That's why the counter to that bull rush is talking about as 'sitting down'. Gotta lower the center of mass, by bending the knees and getting their butt down.
