When they say he was 17 of 19 passing in the practice, but would have been sacked 5 times, it is pretty clear.  If they were doing that, he would be 12 of 19 passing.

Wrong. You aren't given an incompletion when you're sacked.

Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

My bad, did not adjust the other number.  12 of 14, and none of the credited TD's would count.

Are you admitting he's the GOAT at QB development?

But who cares what his stat line is in practice? I mean,

Nope, I said "who a bunch of you consider".

If game action is good for a Super Bowl winning coach and QB, it should be good for a rookie head coach and a QB with 4 starts in a new system.

Even if the starters played a full quarter of preseason game 1 and into the second quarter of preseason game 2 -- how many drives is that as a unit?  3 drives per quarter?  We're making a big argument about 8-10 drives total, at the most.

If the coaching staff feels they've gotten 5-6 drives per joint practice out of the starters, then IMO that should be an adequate substitute.  It all depends what the intensity level of those joint practices were, and I don't think anyone here can adequately evaluate that.  A big point is being made about lack of tackling; that concerns me for the defense; it doesn't concern me at all for the offense.  These guys have all played many years of football through the highest levels of college -- they all remember what being tackled feels like.

My concern is that one of the problems Hurts has demonstrated throughout training camp, according to reports, is that he is holding onto the ball too long.  Getting, even a limited number of snaps, likely gives him a better sense of timing.

I don't.  I wanna see it in a preseason game.  To bad we don't do anything constructive in those games.

When Jalen Hurts hits the field in Atlanta September 12th, it will be 31 days since he has taken a game rep.

This.  He is getting comfortable with it due to the situation, and needs game reps to realize he can not do it.

Interesting nugget from that article

Quote

Saleh believes quarterbacks must get rid of the ball after one hitch. On defense, he preaches to his secondary to make the quarterback hold the ball for that extra second to allow the pass rush to get to him. Wilson did not see much pressure last year at BYU. He played behind a veteran offensive line and against inferior competition, mostly. The Jets wanted him to feel the rush in camp, even if defenders could not hit him, and get used to delivering the ball on time. "He’s getting rid of the ball in rhythm,” Saleh said. "You’re seeing someone who’s not getting hit. Not to say he won’t get hit during a game, but it’s all-encompassing in terms of the urgency even for our route runners. You can’t spend time at the line or scrimmage. You have to release, you’ve got to work an edge, you’ve got to get vertical, you’ve got to get separation, all in an effort to help the quarterback. It’s not just helping the quarterback. It’s helping the receivers. It’s helping the O line. It’s helping the play-caller understand everything with regard to quarterback play and making sure that he’s constantly operating in rhythm.”

Sounds like maybe this is why our D-Line was reportedly so dominant.

Hopefully QB coach Johnson will be working hard with him on this.  It just so happens Hurts was last in the entire NFL last season in time-to-throw -- 3.11 seconds.

The NFL average is probably somewhere around 2.6 to 2.7 seconds.  To your point, definitely something he needs work on.

So what? What if he has a good game and looks sharp?

I will be pleasantly surprised, but I expect the team to come out and look behind the curve the first few weeks.

That is also flawed.  Let's practice one thing, and then go play a game and do something else.  How are you evaluating the guys playing if they are not doing what they practice.

:nonono:

They are evaluating the individual.  Most teams don’t use more than their base vanilla in PS.  No game planning.   Some of it may well be the coach thinking he would call Cover 1 in this situation but he needs to see Jacquet and McPhearson in Zone so he calls Zone.  The calls typically are designed to test specific players.

Nah.  If anyone in here fits their slogan, Keep Austin Weird, it is AFan. I suspect at some point he will return there. I have spent enough time in Austin to see the fit.

Agreed...  virtually all young QBs do this...  the only way they start to get the message is getting ground into the dirt a few times...

Brady will be playing a half tomorrow  .

Wrong.  Shows up as negative yards rushing.  Another thing that shows why general QB stats fail at measuring a QB success level.

That also reflected Doug's play calling, he fell in love with his fast young receivers and called more deep patterns than just about any other HC.

Sirianni is bringing a lot of Reich's offense, which spreads the ball around more, especially to RBs, deep strikes often come off play action which works better b/c he runs the ball more.

So 12 days is to much time between game reps for Tom Brady and his 299 career starts, but 31 days is OK for Jalen Hurts and his 4 career starts.  Interesting.

Head coach Bruce Arians plans to play his starters the first half, particularly since the Bucs will still be 12 days from the NFL’s opening night against the Dallas Cowboys.

Um, if he is sacked 5 times, it would take the 17 of 19 he was credited for in practice and change it to 12 of 14.  Yes, I know it becomes negative rushing yards.

It is not surprising that the Eagles are going to rest their starters. They have much more important things to attend to    -    it is World Rock Paper Scissors Day.

Fear the Matt Leo, Wilson. He’s coming for you.

Resting starters this much is classic Howie overcorrection. When’s the last time a starter even got hurt during a preseason game?
