Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

So here's my thought process on Minshew...

Eagles are worried about Hurts getting Hurt and need depth.... Which is not good

Eagles dont trust Hurts as a Starter.... which is not good

Or they just traded for a 3rd string/PS... which is not good.

I stopped reading right there.

I guess but why not just trade for Minshew months ago instead of giving Flacco $5M? Now we have to keep all 3 on the 53. Makes more sense to me to not sign Flacco, trade for Minshew and keep your third QB on the PS.

Because Meyer wanted to pretend there was competition for the job, so Minshew wasn't available, once he named Lawrence the starter, he wanted Minshew gone so there wouldn't be the inevitable cries for the backup when Lawrence struggles.

I like this move. Minshew didn't have a lot to work with in Jax. They haven't had a good TE for years.  They still don't have one now and that isn't going to help Lawrence.  Minshew played well at times with a limited cast. But, I don't see Flacco happy being the #3 and Minshew won't he happy either. So, I expect another shoe to drop.

Think the Minshew trade is simple, Jax wanted to dump Minshew b/c  they didn't want a controversy if Lawrence struggles (what they should have done was start MInshew and bring in Lawrence mid-season, but that would have taken a long view of developing a franchise QB).

Howie got him cheap, which now gives him options, he has a veteran backup he can trade, he has insurance against a QB injury, and he has a cheap backup QB for 2022.

Exactly...  it was a move with lots of benefits, and virtually no drawbacks...  Howie gets plastered pretty regularly here (often with good reason), but this was a sensible, versatile move...

It's nice to have a trade where all the national writers are making fun of the other team.

I hope he takes #10.  He would wear it well.

Agreed on all points... especially about blasting Howie for good reason.   This was a smart move.  Cheap both in trade compensation and in salary cap hit.  Control for 2 years, and optionality at the most important position.

And the inevitable cries for the backup when Hurts struggles?

Fulgham has done everything not to make the team

Fulgham was the worst WR on the roster in training camp.  If the new staff doesn't fall in love with 3 weeks of game logs from 2020, he'll probably be the one to go.

He's better than Hightower.  I also trust him a lot more than I do JJAW.

And it wasn't 3 weeks, it was 5 straight weeks.

Yep.  Do not like JJAWful and wanted to see Fulham step up and be a consistent player, but it is pretty clear he is out the door.

Not sure if being snarky or not but I'm just posting my post-game takes like a lot of others do.  From watching the game, I'm not impressed with the DBs.  We agree that Epps is safety 3 who can spot start.

The problem with James is he always seems to be hurt.  His strength is his ST play as a gunner but his weakness is his health.  Can't rely on that.  What has Wallace done to show he belongs on the team when healthy?

I posted about Kevon Seymor right after the game.  I think he was the best CB last night.  He made some nice plays on the ball.

Jaquet got abused last year when he had to start and wasn't impressive to me playing this year.  The TD against him was bad.  Whiffed on his jam then lost the WR and didn't time his jump right.

The class next year is very deep and they could revamp the secondary if they draft well.  Until then, I'd much rather bring in a few guys post waivers rather than more of the guys we've been seeing.

Not being snarky.  I have said many times how hard it is to evaluate DBs and even receivers without the All 22.  TV coverage only shows the ball and usually in a close focus so we struggle to see what is happening off ball.  Especially in real time.

Nothing you say above isn’t true.  I will take it a step further on James.  James’ injury is to the foot.  A number foot injuries present the possibility of lingering issues.  His speed and instincts don’t allow him to lose a step.  Jacquet started playing CB his junior year of college, at Louisiana-Lafayette.  So he is extremely green.  His athleticism is intriguing so I would sign him to the PS.  Scott is the other option.  He is small.  I am not sure we couldn’t do better than any of those three on the waiver wire. And I certainly want draft capital used there.

As to Wallace, he went about where I thought last year.  Has he earned a spot?  Haven’t seen enough to say.  I would say the same about Davion Taylor.  Heck, the same can be said of Dickerson. Interestingly, they played him as starting SS before the groin injuries. That is what I see him as.  Bit small for a SS but….  BTW, Stevens looked to me like a downhill SS last night more than a WIL.

I hated the JJAW selection more than anyone.  It sent me off the deep end.

But of the current WRs...if Smith/Reagor/Watkins were not available, I'd probably put JJAW on the field over Ward, Hightower, and Fulgham.

Not sure why you would put JJAW on the field over Ward when JJAW hasn't done anything in an actual football game except disappoint while Ward, who has the trust of this teams starting QB, actually catches the ball when thrown to him.

Ward may have dropped a pass last night (something he rarely does), but he easily should get on the field before JJAW...  at least up to this point...

Thats freakin nice. But is he here to be a 3? Or is he ahead of Flacco who has played pretty well this pre-season?

3rd string this year then most likely the backup in 2022 when Flacco is gone.

They all don't really belong on an NFL roster.  JJAW and Fulgham both have a solid frame and catch radius...and move like TEs.  Fulgham put that on display for 3 games in the actual NFL, mostly a fluke byproduct of being ignored, but he did it at the highest level.  JJAW never did squat in the NFL, but he did make a name for himself doing it on a far more consistent basis in college...and that's why he was an actual day 2 prospect, albeit a reach, unlike Fulgham.  But combining all that, I see the two as being interchangeable.  Ideally, only one of them makes the roster, because they don't offer anything different.

Hightower is a homeless man's Todd Pinkston.  I still wouldn't consider him a burner, but he has good deep speed on a linear go-route.  Otherwise he's leggy, features bad hands, has no physical ability against a DB, and is a mistake waiting to happen.

Ward is small and slow, but stands in the right place and catches the football from 3 yards out.

Ward and one of JJAW/Fulgham plus the main 3 seems like the way to go.

Neither JJAW/Fulgham are good. Keep the player you can maybe flip.

Minshew trade means Eagles are trading Hurts to Houston as part of a Watson deal very soon.

Not following this logic.

Ward is one of the most inefficient WRs in NFL history.  He accumulates catches by standing short of the 1st down marker on underneath routes and just scooping up check-downs that should not have been checked down.  That's what our offense was last year.

He's a safety blanket for the coaches because he runs the right route and has reliable hands (last night doesn't change that).

If you are going to force the ball to someone who can't get open, in coverage, beyond the first down marker, I'd probably take JJAW on that play instead of Ward.  Again, I hate that I'm in the position of arguing on behalf of JJAW here.  Just splitting the hairs of failure.
