Just wanted to say that move Boston Scott put on that jets defender to score the TD was pretty sick...

It was.  I just wish he did it against teams that's home stadium wasn't found in New Jersey.

Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

Damn, how over the top do I have to go to get across this was a joke and a reflection on how little I would want a trade for Watson.  The Flacco as a playoff and Super Bowl QB and Stafford not being one did not suggest that?  How about $35 million against the cap next year and the burden it would be on a team aging in the trenches in the middle of a rebuild?

Gotta put a funny gif in there I guess

Would have loved this trade for Minshew before signing Flacco. Curious timing considering the wasted guaranteed money we put into Flacco.

This trade is creating a lot of questions of why for me. Not saying I dont like it and think its good value cause it is. Just a lot of the timing and situations don;t make sense. They could have had him for the same price before the draft when we had a ton of picks in the back end of the draft.

Howie is spreading wide cause something smells a bit fishy here.

Yeah he’s not playing at $35 million.  his contract if you look after 2022 there’s minimal guaranteed money. It is structured so that it could be restructured and lower his cap number. That cap number is likely not gonna be the number for whatever team he’s getting traded too.

go look at his 2023 numbers. it’s 42 mil but with a dead cap of just 10 mil if release or traded. His 2024 is $37 mil with just 5 I’m dead money. Whether or not he’s traded to the Eagles (still think unlikely he’s traded) that contract the Houston Texans signed him to was set up so that in 2022 they could potentially restructure it and lower that cap number.

So can we dissect that a bit.  Notwithstanding the idea of another Howie restructure turns my stomach as that means pushing money into later years or void years.  We agree that 2022 is guaranteed.  Before the trade, do you think Watson agrees to waive that March 2022 guarantee on his 2023 salary and roster bonus?  Why would he.  If the Eagles had just forked over significant draft capital for him, he knows they aren’t going to walk away in March 2022, so the likelihood that $37 isn’t on the books in some capacity would be surprising. Most likely restructuring is converting salary and/or roster bonus into signing bonus to spread the hit forward. Now, I don’t think any of us would be surprised about Howie spreading money into future years. Hate it, yes, but surprised, no.  Watson, if he continues to be happy and produce, actually becomes a decent value in his last two years.  But will the Eagles have replacements for Brooks, Seumalo, Johnson and Kelce in place.  That is presuming Mailata extends or Dillard is the starting LT.  So will Watson be happy?  Expensive lipstick on a pig.

Just another reason I never listen to Joe Banner's views. Dude knows nada about football. He should stick with creating numbers in his head.

Is he talking for Lurie?

I may be the biggest fan of Ward in here but have consistently said he is a complimentary piece and if you find a receiver that runs routes and catches like he has been doing and has better speed and quickness, by all means bring him in.  I never begrudge an upgrade. But you don’t need a dollar for your #4 WR.

I set the bar for the #4 WR as a dollar.  Not exactly a high value, but enough to almost get you a cup of coffee these days.  Ward as a number 4 WR on a team looking to compete makes sense.  But that's not this team, at this time.  My hope is to find a legit PR or a legit #3 or higher WR in this process.  Odds are against it, but it's possible.  We know what Ward is, and what he isn't.  A guy who can do some little things to help you, but he's not a threat and he's not a punt returner.  Meanwhile, on a team that is not looking to compete, but to evaluate and develop young players with higher ceilings, having Ward on the roster is a wasted opportunity to evaluate higher ceiling players.  Put Ward on the PS and keep him there in case you need him for a week or two due to injury, but use that rsoetr spot to claim other cast offs in the hope of finding a diamond in the rough.  Sure, it's low odds, but Jimmy Smith was cut a bunch of times before catching on in Jax.  Fulgham wow'd us for a few weeks.  Maybe they can get lucky with a Theilen type that another team didn't have the luxury of investing a roster spot in.   No one will be claiming Ward.  This is a year for finding those diamonds... but you only find them by mining.  And its easier to mine when you claim them and put them on the roster than trying to get them to jump from one organization to another after passing through waivers... and some other team might claim them and you get no shot at evaluating them up close.

So now what?   Certainly can’t have one of Flacco, Minshew or Hurts on the PS right?  And we shouldn’t dress 3 qb’s

Thats the reason for my post a few mins later. Something smells fishy.

He may not have been made available until now, and at least he's not just a 1 year rental?

He absolutely was available before now. If we are to believe the reports, I suppose.

There are a ton of articles showing Minshew was put on the trade market before the draft and the asking price was a 5th or 6th rounder. So no, he did not just become available. Something else provoked this, and it was not Mullens sucking it up as a 3rd QB

I don’t disagree with some of what you said but you know that kicking the can down the road is what would happen anywhere he goes (particularly here) to lower that cap number. So when I said he’s not gonna play at $35 million in cap (at least with the eagles) you know that’s true. The Texans were going to attempt to restructure that contract before the 2022 season. (I’d have to find the McClain tweet but he discussed it). Whether or not we like it is a different story

I don’t disagree with you about lipstick on a pig. However you’re still ignoring the fact the Eagles have shown you for two decade they value the quarterback position and position of the value above all else. You can make up any argument about lipstick on a pig and I will agree with you that it would be lipstick on a pig. But that doesn’t take away from the laundry list of quarterbacks for the Eagles have gone out to acquire because they value that position above all else and will make moves to acquire a coveted player at the Qb position. And even overpay backup QBs and even some starters (Bradford) to do so

let’s just look at the eagles when it comes to QB position. Even when McNabb was here they decided to bring in Jeff Garcia, draft Kevin Kolb, then sign Vick coming out of prison. Then draft foles after giving Vick $100 mil, sign Sanchez then trade for Bradford who they thought had more upside due to his draft status years ago. Then even when they knew Bradford wasn’t the guy they gave him an extension, signed chase Daniel and then went and got wentz. Then the following year signed foles to be a backup (people ****ed about hat price) and kept him at a nice pay increase for 2018. Then signed josh mccown and followed by drafting hurts in the second round after giving wentz $100 contract. And now signed Flacco and traded for minshew. What do you say can be true about lipstick on a pig but Eagles as a organization for two decades have shown you the value of the quarterback position to an extreme and will make moves to a acquire ones that they like with value or Love .

Is it likely? No. But the Eagles as a organization for two decades have shown you the value of the quarterback position yo an extreme and will make moves to acquire one that they like or love. Is it going to happen? I kind of doubt it but I can totally see the Eagles saying to themselves if the legal issues are resolved, he’s 25 years old, top 7 QB ( only five quarterbacks according to the top 100 that are better than Deshaun Watson), they are willing to pay the quarterback position if it had they have a pro bowl caliber quarterback for the next decade which has been something they’ve been searching for since mcnabb was dealt.

Where are you are coming from is where a rational logical team in the Eagles current predicament/position should be thinking about it. However the fact the eagles have rumored with Zack Wilson and trying to move up to get him and watson tells me they might not be thinking in the same rational logical manner when it comes to that position.

On a different note, the Bills look pretty good. They did seam like they were missing a nice catching vet at TE that Allen could trust over the middle when he gets in trouble. Okay, maybe they didnt look like they needed it, but hopefully they want it :)

I disagree with the Eagles' approach to preseason, especially considering their inexperience, but I don't strongly disagree with it.  We'll just see how ready the team is in week 1.  We had this exact same debate last year and said the same thing.  They looked horrible early last season.  But then we just learned they were a horrible team.   So it didn't really settle the preseason debate.

I'm less interested in debating if they should approach the preseason like this than I am in WHO is calling these shots.  The silly hype line about Sirianni was that he is so competitive he can't handle losing RPS.  So this is the same guy who basically forfeits his first 3 opportunities to compete as a HC?  This approach to the preseason has been conserved across multiple seasons and multiple HC's now.  I wonder how much of day-to-day decisions in this franchise are dictated from above.

Imagine reading this if you're Tua

"A team that dropped out of trade talks"

Probably the Eagles

The Minshew trade is good. I don't get the people saying it makes no sense for this team. Not all moves are done for 2021. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if Minshew passes Flacco on the depth chart at some point this season. Ideally, this trade would have been made pre-camp and pre-Flacco signing, but maybe the price was higher then. Beathard has looked good this preseason for the Jags, so that also made Minshew more expendable now.

said over a month ago, the only way a trade would get done now is if there were pick protections for the team acquiring watson. Otherwise its really hard to see the Texans were going to get the compensation they were asking without it and the legal issues ongoing.

Would be stunned if he got traded now even with pick protections.
