I think they are in a damned if they do damned if they don’t tbh. They put him on that exempt list, fans/people will complain he’s still making 10.54 mil not to play. Plus I’m guessing his lawyer would fight it out of principle saying it feels like it would show guilt which creates a bunch of headaches. If not you are seeing what you are seeing currently

He's going to get paid not to play regardless. I don't know the specific rules but if he's going to be on the 53 and just be inactive I imagine he will have to show up everyday, travel with the team etc. Not sure if he can just stay in the locker room the whole game or if he has to be on the sidelines etc. And it will get brought up every single Texans game to a large audience which isn't a good look for the NFL. Just put him on the list so he can sit at home, not get traded which ends the constant rumor mill about him, and he can just kind of disappear until there is some sort of conclusion or legal update. As soon as he gets some sort of indictment from the grand jury he's going to be put on the list anyway, just get it over with.

Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

Well, at least those towers are good for something.

Nope.  I did season records, but I believe @Iggles_Phan is doing that this year.

Really don't have the bandwidth now to do that stuff.

You are welcome to take it over.  I'd done it once before when mattwill wasnt around.  Did not do it last year.

Last year, I think @In2football did it for the weekly predictions.  I miss that guy.

I’m betting his lawyer would fight if they put him on that list at this time. Optically for watson’s defense it looks worse at this time to do it when they should’ve done it immediately when the reports surfaced stating we need to investigate and when the investigation is over it’d be lifted. At this point it would optically look like the NFL believes he did something. Now it would feel like they got some news or info that he did something (whether he did or didn’t isn’t what I’m saying) even if they didn’t get anything new. That would be another headache if his lawyer go after the league. I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as just do it and it’ll end all this.

I liked two years or so ago when @Ialone did it and no one knew how to tag him on a weekly basis

Let's see how long that lasts.

I'm amazed they're willing to just let it go. Why not fine him every week or something?

LOL I remember that. He had to explain that it was i alone

Again, was it necessary and did it leave players in better condition to play? Also, how much time do you think players play during a game? Do you think they are physically playing for 60 minutes?

They do have a lot of down time but most of those players are going full throttle on evey play minus some receivers not in the play. That takes a lot out of you

Holy ish.  Thank you so much for sharing the All-22 of a TD with 3rd stringers in a pre-season game that half of the starters were wearing street close in.

I asked him for a breakdown of Toth.  He obliged.

There's nothing to fine him for. He's showing up to the facility everyday.

I hope the team stays healthy.  My only point about Herbig is that Dickerson and Seumalo have that same versatility.  If Dickerson is ready to play, I am not sure Herbig deserves a spot over Opeta.

Herbig is better than Opeta.

I don't know the legality aspect to it and if there is anything they can even do. Watson might actually prefer to be put on the list so he doesn't have to show up and do all this song and dance bs. NFL was set to put Antonio Brown on it if he signed with any team and at the time I think it was just a civil sexual misconduct suit against him.

Let's be fair.  I don't think any of us were big Sammy Sleeves guys.

If Dickerson is ready to play, he should start over Seumalo.  I've been saying this for a while now but I like Dickerson as LG1.  Mailata and Dickerson is one massive left side of the line.  Herbig can be your back up.

Seumalo is only signed through 2022.  With all this talk about Seumalo being the next center...have we ever seen him play the position?  Also, in watching all of the Mailata tape from last year, Seumalo sticks out like a sort thumb in many of them.   Dickerson SHOULD be the superior player.   If the Eagles can trade Seumalo, they should.

I would like the following as the starting 5 and the backups.   Seumalo and Dillard can bring back draft capital or player swap.

Mailata   Dickerson   Kelce   Brooks   Johnson

Toth  Opeta  Herbig  Driscoll

Sure, sight unseen, he must be better than Seumalo.   Come on, man.

They were willing to do it from the very beginning when he signed not months after he signed. So they could play it out like until the investigation we do is completed or legal fall out happens he is on this list. At this point i think watson lawyer would feel it gives off a the message like they must have gotten some new info thats damning that made them put him on this list after months of not doing so.

the nfl completely butchered the handling of this cause the exempt list should’ve happened the week the news came out.

Only after that preseason game, when he looked like Kurt Warner.

With thanks from most of us.   Nice breakdown. Miss D20’s breakdowns like that when he and JR were both posting them.  Great stuff.

Neither show they have logged in since December

I meant for when the season starts. Can he just sit on the sidelines and refuse to play and not get fined?

Herbig is also the back-up center until Dickerson is 100% ready to go, which I'm not sure has been established yet...

Houston would never play him, it would be a PR nightmare. They barely let him practice with the team as it is.

Tendency seems to be to do their own investigation after the criminal and civil ones are complete unless there is undisputed evidence, like Rice’s video.   They waited with Brown, Zeke and others.  I don’t expect the exempt list with no charges filed.  I do think it is moronic that the Texans think Watson retains their valuation, and sitting him isn’t going to drive the value up.

Whose going to claim a 70 year old actor?

@ JR

At long last, I have had time to read Battle Cry of Freedom. I very much enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendation.

It will difficult for me to keep a straight face when people proclaim to me that, at present,  the country has never been so polarized.

P.S. - W. B. Forrest  and W. Quantrill were truly odious characters.

Yeah, that's a very good one.

Sounds like he's not there yet but close-ish.  I'm guessing by the sweat soaked jersey on Dickerson, he has some getting in to playing shape to get in to.

Is a 6-6 center a good thing? Maybe it's just because we've had Kelce for so long but I like the idea of a smaller, more agile, quick center rather than a road grader.  I also just love the idea of 6-8 Mailata and 6-6 Dickerson on the left side.  Center (post-Kelce) could be Seumalo, if he's actually good there, Herbig or a guy not on the roster.

The good thing is that it appears that the backups are all being cross-trained and should be in good hands as the 3 veterans move on.
