Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

Probably not because he is not available.  NFL is tricky about that. No reason in risking a sanction.

Pretty interesting.  Wish it showed the topography.  I had a professor my first year of college at Texas A&M.  A&M was able to brag at that time that it graduated more officer candidates than all of the service academies combined.  Dr. Beaumont was a military historian.  He taught us a lot of the nuances and truths that you don’t get in the general histories.  He had these topographical models of each of the major battlefields of the Civil War but he always said, to get the feel for the battle, walk the ground.  I have been in the thickets of The Wilderness, climbed the split rail in the middle of Pickett’s charge (really Longstreet’s).  The stone bridge at Antietam is such a bottleneck, it is a miracle that Burnside had any of his men left.  But the sunken road.  That is hallowed ground.  It was trench warfare.  You can see it as the killing ground it was.   I am glad that to the extent they can, they have restored some of these battlefield’s to conditions mirroring the time.  Let your imagination include the smoke and the constant report of gunfire and artillery.  The horror of it comes alive and you can almost sense the fear of Henry Fleming.

The Civil War, at least in the early years,  was an unfortunate confluence of outdated tactics and modern weaponry. It is hard to image that a single day of fighting could produce in excess of  30,000 casualties.

I actually thought g Cobb’s report today was telling. He says watson would waive his no trade clause to come here. Cobb could be full of crap but it could also be Miami and Carolina really don’t want to do a trade right now with darnold and tua. They want to see how they develop. I think watson might be realizing if he wants out of Houston that bad then he might not get his dream destination. Before the legal stuff he had he niners, Dolphins, Broncos and Carolina. 3 of those 4 might not want him next year if tua and darnold play good this year. Niners have lance.

yup.  Napoleonic tactics which were invented because of how inaccurate the weapons were and the only way to be sure to hit your target was to mass fire together.  By the end of the Civil War, it had evolved into Trench Warfare (at least in the VA Campaign between Grant and Lee) that was the primary mode of warfare for World War I.

The Civil War also marked the massive change in naval warfare from wooden ships to iron ships.  As soon as the Merrimack (CSS Virginia) and the USS Monitor squared up, all other navies in the world were rendered obsolete.

"Just" 4 years of constant war and during those 4 years the face of war changed dramatically from start to finish... lots of technological advances changed everything, and generals like Grant could conduct complete campaigns via the Telegraph... and be hounded by their president 'instantly'.

Heavily disagree there was a fix. Mahomes was clearly not 100% and that OL was brutal & taken advantage by a Bucs DL that’s one of best in the game. OL/DL play generally decide games, the Super Bowl was no exception.

Bucs have a loaded roster across the board. Every position group on that team is good to elite.

They're loaded in some areas, but they really don't have a QB, the most important position and their RBs and secondary aren't all that.

Of course, they played a role... but admitting it is incompetence.   In other words, right on par with Meyer.

The Texans have the second oldest roster in the league and yet have a roster so bad it looks like they’re openly tanking.

Should be a team looking to trade down no matter how high they’re drafting

Of course JJAW makes it over Fulgham. Clown show Howie can’t take the L

I didn't think the Bucs were all that special last season, I think it's recency bias. They got some lucky breaks in the playoffs. In the SB, the Chiefs OL was battered and the penalties were suspiciously askew.  I think it was like 100 penalty yards to zero in the first half or something? Absurd. The fix was definitely in.

I watched the Bucs all year and they were certainly a solid team, I think it was a fluke in a fraudulent COVID ridden season. I don't think they'll be a legit threat for a SB this season. I think the Niners, Rams, Packers, Seahawks are all better.

I could see a SB 54 rematch.

I think you are under-estimating the Bucs defense.  Championship caliber on the line, LB, and DB/S.  Plus Brady.

The NFLPA investigating a decision that keeps players safer from illness seems unlikely to result in anything.

They almost have to do so.  That said, I don’t think that violates the CBA, so the investigation is just a show.
