....and Sam F'n Ehlinger carries them to the playoffs, making the injury moot. That would be some story :groovy:

Just to be on the safe side I want to see 2 more full games out of him. Then I'll relax.

Why? Lol.

I would have rather kept Wentz and gotten rid of Howie LOL

Wentz is starting the rest of the season for the Colts barring injury. Just have to hope he doesn't suffer a season ending injury.

Once he's been in for what will be a % deep into the 80's, it's all good. After that, I don't care what he does.

The Colts are still in contention. Especially considering their division and the loss of Henry to the Titans. Teams really don't bother paying attention to snap counts related to trade compensation. Or at least I haven't seen it.

I check on Stampede Blue, the equivalent of Bleeding Green Nation occasionally. I don't believe I've seen one mention of first round pick vs. second round pick there. It might be a topic of conversation if the Colts pick was top five or something. It won't be, they're still in the wild card hunt I think.

They should’ve just cleaned house. Dumped the full trinity of Pederson, Wentz, and Roseman.

I wonder how that conversation went....

Howie: We are gonna keep you Doug but, you need a better supporting cast

Doug: Does it matter? Wentz hates me anyways

Howie: You are correct Doug! So you are now fired!

Howie: Hey Carson we got rid of Doug for you, what do you think of that?

Carson: I still don't want to be here because I hate you more then Doug!

Howie: Welp I'm not firing myself for you ya crybaby! So you can follow Doug out the door! Before you go send Hurts in here I want to talk to him about throwing 95% of the time.

That would have been best.

That would have been totally fine by me - no complains after the last year. What I will say is though is it made no sense whatsoever to me to get rid of Pederson and Wentz but keep Roseman.

Hell, if you told me we could only get rid of one of the three, I would have picked Roseman in a heartbeat. Yet he is the only one left standing.

Some people STILL don't get it about Wentz. He was way too mentally soft to thrive in a city like Philadelphia. He also didn't want to be here. Had he stayed it would have been another disaster of a season. Why so many fans would pine for a guy who isn't made for Philly and didn't want to be here is such a mystery to me.

Still don’t understand how this dude has survived 4 coaching changes.

What did he do exactly that was "mentally soft?" I never saw him say a bad thing about the fans. The team supposedly "benched" him last year, but somehow forgot to put him back in like most starters after a benching. The team continued to lose games without him despite the division and playoffs being a real possibility. I have never in my life seen a franchise QB, team captain, face of the franchise, etc... get benched in a season and remain benched for the duration when the replacement didn't shine in any way. That Wentz didn't want to be a part of the team that had no faith in him in December is hardly a shock. Just look at the list of disgruntled star QBs currently in the NFL that want out of their franchise because of a "lack of respect."

I accept that Wentz is gone. It's not something I wanted to see happen. But I don't have to pretend the guy is the devil in order to move on with my life. If you want to see a guy that is mentally soft, just look at Terrell Owens --- that guy couldn't resist making a scene, crying, throwing players under the bus, burning bridges whenever there was adversity. Wentz kept his mouth shut, worked with the second team in practice, and simply made a decision after the season to seek moving on from the organization that didn't believe in him. He didn't trash people after he left. He just focused on doing his job with his new team. Your "mentally weak" players would be trashing their former team at every opportunity.

Hurts came in against the Saints and helped lead the team to an unlikely victory. He was then very very good against the Cards before stinking against the Cowgirls. At that point we went in to a meaningless final game against the WFT where we pulled Hurts for the #3. So I'm not sure where in all that Wentz was meant to come back in?

Typically, when you "bench" a star player for a bad performance, a coach allows that moment to sink in during the game. Typically, that same player starts the very next game. It's not a "benching" if it's simply a "replacing."

Wentz was pulled the week before vs the Packers. Hurts didn't exactly do anything special. Of course the Wentz-haters said when Hurts came in, that he provided the offense with a spark. Coincidentally, that was the moment Doug chose to go into the no-huddle which had been our go to "spark" even with Wentz when the offense struggled early. Anyway ... Maybe you can give me an example of a franchise QB or even a star player on a team that was benched and never given a chance to get back on the field after the game he was pulled from. Even better, give me one where the said team was technically expected to win the division and earn a playoff spot. Bonus points if you can demonstrate that the player that replaced him didn't clearly outperform the original starter in any way.

If Hurts had come in for an injury situation and performed like he did vs the Saints and Cardinals, people would be happy because one was a win and one a good performance. But like always in the NFL, the more film you give opponents, the more they can prepare for you. 2019 was far from Wentz' best season, but when December rolled around and our backs were against the wall, he was money. He put the team on his back and led them to the postseason. It (what was required) was even easier in 2020. All we had to do was beat dallas and Washington in the final two games. After losing to dallas, the Washington game didn't matter, but Hurts was not up to the task in either game. After what Wentz had done the previous December, what played out in 2020 made no sense at all.

The end result was that Hurts 2021 preseason started in November 2020. He was given game experience.

Good corporate political skills. Or compromising information.  Or both.

I agree with you. However, I also do think Wentz had some confidence issues. That was due entirely to the organization's handling of the QB position though. They brought Foles in and that created a divide amongst the fans (to be fair though Eagles fans love backup QB's). Especially when Foles completed the 2017 season and won the SB. That was a hit to Wentz's confidence. And then drafting Hurts in the 2nd round. Howie's QB factory comments are rubbish. The Patriots didn't draft their 2nd round heir apparent until they thought Brady was near the end. Not in the 5th or 6th season of their starting QB. All of that had to impact Wentz's confidence in the organization and his role with the team long-term. And he was smart to ask to be traded.
