Oath Keepers leader, 10 others charged with 'seditious conspiracy' in Jan. 6 Capitol attack

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot subpoenaed the leader of the Proud Boys, as well as the attack

Elmer Stewart Rhodes, founder of the far-right militia group the Oath Keepers, has been indicted and arrested over his organization's alleged involvement in planning the Jan. 6 attack.

Rhodes, 56, is being charged for the first time in connection to events leading up to and on Jan. 6, according to a statement Thursday from the Justice Department. An additional 10 people, including nine others who already face separate charges in connection to the riot, were also indicted.

Rhodes and the 10 other individuals were charged with "seditious conspiracy and other charges for crimes" related to the breach of the Capitol on Jan. 6, said the DOJ.

Republicans in 5 States Forged Electoral College Documents, MSNBC Host Says

Loyalists of former President Donald Trump attempted to certify the Electoral College in favor of the defeated candidate with forged documents, according to new reporting by MSNBC host Rachel Maddow.

Trump loyalists forged documents in at least five states where Joe Biden had defeated Trump and submitted them for certification, according to Maddow.

The forgeries do not look like the uniquely printed paperwork that states submit, Maddow noted, but they used very specific language purporting that those who signed it were the "duly elected and qualified Electors for President and Vice President of the United States of America” — even though they were not.

"It’s not like they created these documents to like, hold close to their chest and fantasize that this had been the real outcome,” Maddow said. "It’s not like they created these documents just to keep [for] themselves as keepsakes. They sent them into the government, as if they were real documents.”

Maddow also said that the effort to flip the election in Trump’s favor appeared to be coordinated. The faked documents "all match, exactly,” Maddow observed. "Same formatting, same font, same spacing, almost the exact same wording. All of them.”

Later in the program, the MSNBC host connected these documents to a draft letter, written by a Department of Justice (DOJ) official loyal to Trump named Jeffrey Clark, which "explicitly describes these forged slates of electors from multiple states” as part of a plan to keep the former president in office. It was unusual, Maddow said, that Clark was aware that these states had made these types of moves before he suggested the idea to Trump and his allies.

"How did [Clark] know that, two weeks earlier, Republicans in at least five states had in fact created these forged electoral documents?” Maddow asked. "Did the Trump Justice Department know about it because they helped Republicans in those states do it? We don’t know, but somebody helped them do it, because they all filed the exact same document.”

Other documents unearthed in the past year have detailed similar strategies designed by Trump allies to overturn the election. In one such document, Trump’s former lawyer John Eastman devised a six-point plan that relied upon "multiple slates of electors” being used to create confusion in the Electoral College certification process. Former Vice President Mike Pence could then use that confusion to force a vote in the House of Representatives, where Trump would then win the presidency, Eastman said.

Weeks after the election was called for Biden, Trump aide Stephen Miller also said in December that the campaign’s next step to challenging the election’s outcome was to submit false certificates of ascertainment stating that Trump won in states where he hadn’t.

"An alternate slate of electors in contested states is going to vote and we’re going to send those results up to Congress,” Miller said at the time. "This will ensure that all of our legal remedies remain open. That means if we win these cases in the courts, that we can direct that the alternate slate of electors be certified.”

Michigan AG says scheme to overthrow election with fake electors ‘may go all the way to the top’
https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/michigan-ag-scheme-overthrow-election-fake-electors-may-go-all-the-way-top-090042716.html

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel appeared on The Rachel Maddow Show Thursday, where she spoke about the scheme in which Republicans in several states that President Biden won forged election documents in an attempt to give the election to former President Trump. Fraudulent electors in Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada and Georgia sent documents to the National Archives to certify the election for Trump, despite Biden having won. While no one has been arrested yet in connection with this attempted election fraud, Nessel expects authorities to gather more evidence, and that this may have been orchestrated from the highest levels of government.

"Once those individuals see that they could possibly be facing prison time, I do think we’re gonna see some people flip,” Nessel said, "and we’ll get some further information as to who orchestrated this in the first place, who told these people to do this in exactly this fashion, and I think it may go all the way to the top.”

Nessel’s belief that the individuals involved were part of a larger conspiracy stems from the fact that, in every instance, the fraudulent documents followed almost the exact same template, in some cases not in any way resembling the real elector documents from a particular state. Which is why on Thursday, Nessel referred the case to federal authorities.

Trumplicans would be frothing at the mouth if Democrats had attempted half the crap Trump supporters did between Nov 2020 and Jan 20 2021.

They got years out of Benghazi. They'd milk the Dems sending fraudulent electors and counterfeit certification documents for a decade in Congressional hearings.

But when their team does it? Patriotism.

Exactly. If Dems did this it would be talked about in hearings every day for years.

I wonder why, those who signed the fake documents haven't all been arrested. Their names are on the documents. Some of their crimes could include..

Forgery
Conspiracy
Impersonating a Gov't Official for political gain
Tampering with election systems
Interference in elections
Mail Fraud
Defrauding the United States all are felonies.

It's a good RICO case.

Who prepared the documents, who hired the fake electors to show up and try and get in?  To me this smells like a Roger Stone operation.

A Michigan woman was arrested outside the Capitol Police headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday with a .22 caliber rifle, a .50 caliber muzzle loader, a loaded .410 caliber shotgun, and a pellet gun, per NBC News. Kery Lynn McAttee, 58, told officers, however, that she just came to talk. McAttee claims she embarked on a cross-country roadtrip in her Chevy Silverado from her Midwestern home because she had information about the Jan. 6 insurrection that she felt was pertinent to discuss with the department. She was arrested once the guns were seen in the back of her truck as she parked in a no parking zone outside the building. Despite the arsenal, the department issued a statement claiming: "At this time, there is no evidence the 58 year old suspect was coming here to do anything, except speak with our officers.” McAttee was charged with multiple counts of unlawful possession for having the weapons.

Nah, criminals and enemies of the state is more like it.  I would have said the same if the Antifa and BLM mobs got their way and was able to get into the WH during the Summer of 2020.

Sedition charges is exactly what some of those "patriots" deserve.

He's not just talking about Jan 6th. For people that weren't paying attention, they probably think Jan 6th was an anomaly, but it wasn't. It was the culmination of two months of failed attempts to steal the election through less obvious means. Only when all those avenues dried up did the orange moron try to use brute force to stop the certification.

because unfortunately their priorities have been BS like BBB and installing DAs across the country that have decided not to prosecute serious crimes.

I mean, this really isn't like trying to unravel the Da Vinci Code. Trump supporters had these fake electors sent to the National Archives to try and create the appearance of confusion on the state returns. Per the Eastman memo, Pence would then use this as pretext to reject the electors from these states and send it back to the state legislatures. Those legislatures would back the Trump electors, thereby making Trump President.

Of course this goes to the top. It was all part of the same plan. Basically...Mike Pence saved the Republic.

Hey, be gentle. They only just got around to admitting (some) that there was anything resembling sedition among the people a year after seeing VIDEOED evidence of them trying to stop the election certification.

I mean it's helpful when they create memos and powerpoints detailing their half arsed attempts to overturn democracy.

It's almost as genius as paying hookers with Venmo...

It is greatly appreciated, as is the evidence the Trump cult mob posted all over social media self-identifying to make it easy on LE.

Lets be fair, the "other side" was throwing a temper tantrum over RUSSIAN COLLUSION!!!!!! for 3 or so years.

Both sides queef to the point I'm pretty sure its some twisted contest now as to who can expel air the loudest.  Or be the most silent when the microscope is on them.

Yeah, I remember when the Democrats had a detailed plan to reject the election results and encouraged people to storm the US Capitol to achieve it. Oh...wait.

Please stop with the both sides BS. I'm a Republican, and there is no comparison between the 2016 and 2020 post-election reactions.

That was in no way an effort to minimize the BS on 1/6.  Hell, as it was going down @Paul852 was whining because I said that the broad who got shot trying to break in got what she deserved.

Lets not pretend that though that the last two presidents have had the other side make their term illegitimate.  This is a dangerous precedence.

The difference is there were honest reasons to investigate Trump and Russia. Let's not forget -- Mueller was only appointed because Trump went on TV and admitted to firing Comey for investigating his ties to Russia. There was plenty of contact between Russian assets and members of the Trump team (Manafort, Trump Jr., etc.). While Mueller found no firm evidence of collusion (because no one on team Trump is intelligent enough to pull it off), he didn't clear Trump either (and found plenty of obstruction of justice). The truth is Trump brought most of that on himself by being a moron. This idea that the Mueller investigation was some witch hunt is just high comedy -- Rosenstein only appointed Mueller because Trump gave him no choice after that interview with Lester Holt.

Mention Russia and this is the reaction of over half the GOP. The fact that their people TRIED to collude is meaningless to them.

These same people think Russia are the good guys. Our Intelligence services are bad, but Putin and the Soviet spies are good.
