September 11, 20214 yr Andre Dillard might be too soft to play LT. There's no chance for him to play G.

Overall, I don't think we can complain because our OL has been great up until last year. More annoyed he is a Cowboy. Yes he is suspended but he has been good for them. It opened them up to not use a resource. Maybe they take a lineman over Lamb and Lamb falls to Philly. Snowball effect.

In retrospect, I'm surprised a team didn't draft Mialata higher with his size and athleticism. 5th rounders usually miss and his traits should've had him drafted around there instead of in the 7th. 35 minutes ago, Iggles_Phan said: Might want to fact check that one on your own. He was projected to be drafted in the first round. I did not realize this part of my post didn’t post @Iggles_Phan and @CaliEagle
September 11, 20214 yr Dillard's weakness is raw power. No idea how he's gonna work at guard. He's more likely to be a security guard 5 years from now than an offensive guard.

The fact that the Eagles (or any team) wouldn’t even use a 7th for that talent is ridiculous. Then he goes right to the Cowboys😡 It wasn’t just the Eagles, every NFL team took him off their board. And last I heard the murder case went cold. I’m guessing their is something more out there that implicates him that teams found out about.

It's funny how many of their fans are viewing their loss as a victory. Tampa turns it over 4 times and Dallas still can't find a way to win the game.

Hurts would have to increase his life insurance coverage if that happens. I think Dillard, at best, would be an average LT for someone. And, now that won't be here. They should trade him for whatever they can get. But, they might just wait until next season to do that.

So, likely guaranteeing base salary or guaranteed roster bonuses. This is a good contract to take a chance on. A 24 year old mountain of a man, with elite athleticism that is ascending. You pay for that when they show the promise you've seen from Mailata. On the flip side... Barnett is a 25 year old with limited upside, a penchant for stupid penalties, and lots of nagging injuries. It is not imperative to overpay Barnett... IF on the other hand you can get the type of deal (relative by position) that you got with Mailata, then resigning him now makes sense. That extension puts Mailata at roughly the 8th highest LT (edge of top 25th percentile) in the league on a yearly salary when it kicks in... for a guy that has all the tools to be a perennial All-Pro type LT. Barnett, on the other hand, would only be due top 25th percentile if he had the same level of potential tools as a DE. 16th in the league would put him at the $16M range for average salary... but likely needs to be considered more in the top half ranking or so... roughly 32nd DE... roughly $8M per year. I doubt he'd take that early, but that's the range that I'd consider... and no higher. If he has a breakout season this year, that can always be increased moving forward, but for now... he's a middle of the road production DE.

I wouldn't go that far he still gave up 7 sacks last year. Don't get me wrong it's a great signing and I'm glad he turned out into a decent player but, he still has a lot to work on.
September 11, 20214 yr Wearing my jersey today. Everyone knows I was a big Wentz guy and thinks I'm trying to make some sort of statement. Nooooo. Their Fing expensive and my kids just started school so I can't really drop 80 bucks for a new one right now.

He basically tried to refuse to play RT his rookie year and they made him anyways and found out quickly why he didn't want to play there
September 11, 20214 yr Putting the Mailata deal into some perspective: If he earns every incentive and maxes out his contract, his APY is $16M, that ties him with Taylor Lewan as the 7th highest paid LT right now. Cam Robinson, Terron Armstead, Orlando Brown, Isaih Wynn plus others will be signing in the next year or two. By this time next year he may well be out of the top 10 at LT alone. If you include RT, he's the 12th highest paid T as of right now. Vaitai got 5 years $50M two years ago. Mailata could have bent them over a barrel if he wanted to test FA.
September 11, 20214 yr Dillard could work at LG, Seumalo isn't exactly a beast, but it depends on what Sirianni and Stoutland want from a LG, if you're running power inside he's undersized, but if you put Dickerson at C, then Dillard's athleticism has a lot of value on pulls and stretch plays, and on inside runs Dickerson can seal the RDT on double teams, allowing Dillard to release to the second level. JR can eludicate better than I.
September 11, 20214 yr I would've waited on Mailata, but they obviously feel confident he's an elite LT.

Frankly, in that case, they literally threw him to wolves. What they found out in that process was that he was not a battler. Knowing that, they need to be smarter moving forward and work him there in practice and get him as many practice reps at RT as possible, in case they need him there this year. 4 in season practices isn't enough to learn how to do everything backwards. It takes reps. he didn't get them in practice and took the excuse route, rather than fighting. Mailata's technique suffers at times, but when he's beat, he continues to battle and that's why he won that competition. Dillard can make the move, but he needs to get his head right to do it. I'm not sure he can.
September 11, 20214 yr One point about drafting WRs, when the Eagles drafted Barnett and Williams in the 3rd and 5th rd, who was the WR drafted in the 2nd round? So if Watkins turns out to be a steal, Reagor just has to be decent for the 2020 draft to shine, in the end it's not which round you draft prospects, but how many become players. Mailata in the 7th turned out better than Dillard in the 1st, but they still ended up with a potential all pro LT (and they traded up to be sure they nabbed Mailata). One reason Cleveland was bad for so long was while they drafted solid in the first 3 rounds, they had 4 or 5 years where they missed on every third day pick.
September 11, 20214 yr 7 minutes ago, schuy7 said: I would've waited on Mailata, but they obviously feel confident he's an elite LT. This is the kind of extension you take a chance on though. Cap strapped team that can get a potentially elite player on a bargain deal if he continues to grow into the job. There is some risk that he'll plateau early... but that's why there isn't as high a cost. Risk for the team in potentially overpaying for what he currently is, while giving him security now and bypassing the risk he'd take in gambling on himself and not getting injured. This was a smart move. Some of the other moves made ZERO sense... like restructuring Barnett and Johnson this summer.
September 11, 20214 yr I'm old enough to remember thinking that the Eagles got lucky with Mailata and didn't know what they were doing.

He has a lot to work on, but even last year, he was a much better player the second half after he returned to the lineup. He didn't waste his time when benched, but used that to review what he was doing wrong and correct those mistakes. They're not just gambling on his off the charts size/athleticism combo, but also on his intangibles, intelligence, work ethic, competitiveness. He's the **** child of Tra and Peters.

Like you said though maybe if they actually set him up to succeed it will be different but, I also doubt it
