For what it's worth, I don't think this Mailata extension says anything at all about Dillard. Frankly, I think they've always envisioned their tackles in future years as being Dillard on the left side and Mailata on the right, with Johnson being traded somewhere at some. I believe that's still their plan.

Oh, and I do think Dillard could play guard. He's amazingly athletic. His combine numbers were off the charts. Y'know, they successfully converted Jermaine Mayberry from tackle to guard after he was an initial disappointment. It's not really unprecedented.

I don’t see how he gets that deal if Dillard is the starter

That missed 4th down might be the back breaker for OSU.

@LeanMeanGM  Bonus Prediction

We come away with an inspiring Win, comprised of workmanlike, well-executed, intelligent and efficient football in all phases, making the coming week one of the more pleasant early weeks in the last 50 years of Eagles Football.  Kumbaya.....

Exactly.  Meaning, what he saw on the tape looked good.  Dillard's issues aren't his body, its between his ears.   The Eagles didn't properly vet him, and when he fell to them, they leaped before they looked.

Frankly I think Dillard has problems with his body and between the ears. When he came out some of the weaknesses that were put out there were he needed to add strength. That was always a potential issue with dillard. Add on he was going to be 24 during his rookie season so he was an older rookie. So you’d like to have seen him by that age having more strength.

then you got to add on there was limited film of him as a run blocker cause of Wazzu’s offense. So you were just banking on stout being able to get him to do that a high level.

then you had the article sheil kapadia from the athletic dropped where he didn’t love the game (his dad saying that), nearly quit football in high school and college and some of the in between the ears things we’ve discussed since drafting him.

i think there were definitely concerns coming out and the teams picking higher did extensive background and didn’t want to risk that high of a pick even if he had great footwork and great pass blocker in college with the issues i mentioned above. I think the eagles either were willing to take the risk where they moved up to get him or didn’t do enough background checking to understand why he fell like he did

let’s all be honest with ourselves even if mailata is great that doesn’t cross out dillard being a bust if he’s not here after his rookie contract, and shows he’s just not good enough. add on they used multiple picks (when we need depth) to get him.

My feeling is I don’t think he’d be good at guard. He’s never played guard. I don’t think he’d survive without adding more strength and bulk for the position to take on DTs. Also have to teach him everything that goes along with being a guard. That’s not as easy of a transition as people assume and just say he’ll play guard cause stoutland is a great oline coach. I think you have a better chance of trying to get him to learn right tackle or if they move on from lane at some point to move mailata to right tackle and let him play left (highly unlikely imo as i think lane is here for at least 2 more years).

Cmon Ducks, gotta have a TD on this drive.

Love that Beamer has SC playing competitive ball already ,I think he was a excellent hire

Don’t even care about that, that Bum School in Ohio rates top 5 on my hate list.

There’s also that lol. A potential chance the big ten gets left out of the playoff. Oregon beating Ohio state. If Iowa state beats Iowa. If Washington betas Michigan. And next week have auburn at penn state. If the big ten loses all those games then they all have to play each other in conference there’s a chance the big ten doesn’t get a spot in the playoff

Aka Superbowlz?

That hit in the Oregon/OSU game... that's not a targeting call... The player is going down and down and he just followed the offensive player down.  It was a bad hit... but they are putting too much on this stuff.  When a player is near the ground, it's hard to enforce that.  I am all for player safety, and they need to be taught to keep their head up, but they also have to be allowed to play.  Penalize the intent, not the result.

Brown was lucky that Simon didn’t try to jump that throw cause it easily could’ve been a pick 6

Buckeyes D is not championship worthy .

Yup most loyal customers are getting it free. I did 🙂

Trying to convince you to stay with direct tv when it goes to Amazon.

Great job by that Oregon assistant coach.   Those kids are just emulating what they see in the NFL... and frankly, its stupid there too.   Just celebrate on the sidelines where you belong after a play like that.  Why risk a 15 yard penalty?   Just a selfish 'look at me' moment.  Celebrate with your team.

OSU QB not ready for primetime

What a game. Oregon's defense is good.

Impressive without their best player.   But its sad that a 'good' defense means giving up 28 points now.  And... the college game is just too long.   No way a football game should last nearly 4 hours.

Hey @4for4EaglesNest

Aren’t you a Vols fan?

@LeanMeanGM

Bonus prediction. I get pissed off, say something dumb in the blog, and get suspended for two weeks

College halftime is like 20 minutes plus they stop the clock on every first down. That's probably a big chunk of that extra hour right there. Glad to see OSU lose though. Ryan Day looks like a db, just like his predecessor.
