How can someone not like Devonta? Talented, professional, hardworker, good personality. Home run into the upper deck.

Yep.  Devonta just seems so quiet and unassuming.  He reminds me a bit of Barry Sanders in that respect.  Seems like WRs are divas more often than not.

Here you go again, telling me how awesome our players are, and how much you over value them.

Funny, coach doesnt want Hurts, Hurts was picked as a back up, front office doesnt want hurts, but you're trying to sell him on how aawesome he is

I'm not telling you anything about how awesome any of our players are. I just posted a comparison someone did between Wentz's first 14 starts compared to Hurts' first 14 starts and it got you completely triggered.

Wentz actually was a rookie, throwing to Jordan Matthews and DGB with Wendel Smallwood and Josh Adams as their leading rushers. The comparison is incredibly misleading.

I am considering building a bean trellis for the tomatillos next year. Need to read more on growing them.  Zucchini are getting a separate bed next spring where they can shade all they want and not impact any other plants.  My mother trellised her zucchini but I always accounted that to if you don’t keep squash off the ground in Houston because of how wet the soil gets, they rot quickly.   While I have no issue with that I do wonder if a little discipline might help those.  Have you ever grown any other squashes?  I have done pumpkins.  Like watermelons, they aren’t productive enough to warrant the amount of ground needed.

because again your posting articles of how amazing is and a dog-ish comp.

You did the same thing with how amazing Miles Sanders is yesterday.

Cant wait to see you post a comp of TJ Edwards and Lawrence Taylor.

Well it isn't an article, it's a post someone did with a basic comparison.  I simply posted it, I didn't post any comments with it.

Where was I saying how amazing Miles Sanders is? All I said is he is the best RB on the roster so in his return he should get the most carries of any of the RBs when those carries are split out.

Maybe if you're unable to handle any sort of posts that can be construed as positive regarding the Eagles then you should go post on a Steelers message board and then you might not get so triggered by it.

https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/eagles/jalen-hurts-historic-running-attack-and-more-10-eagles-stats?amp

UNPRECEDENTED BALANCE: Against the Lions, Jalen Hurts rushed for 71 yards, Boston Scott 60 and Jordan Howard 57. In the Chargers game, Howard had 71, Hurts 62 and Scott 40. And on Sunday in Denver, Howard had 83, Scott 81 and Hurts 53. That made this the first three-game stretch in at least 72 years in which three Eagles rushed for 40 yards in three straight games. Available records only go back to 1950.

Lots of Jalen Hurts stats, which is nothing new around here, but also lots of running game stats, which is.

It’s all here in this week’s Roob’s Eagles Stats!

IT’S ONLY BEEN 57 YEARS: Howard [12-for-83, 6.9 yards per carry] and Scott [11-for-81, 7.4] on Sunday became the first pair of Eagles running backs in 57 years with 10 or more carries and a 6.5 average or better in the same game. The last time two Eagles running backs did it was Oct. 4, 1964, when Timmy Brown was 16-for-116 (7.3) and Earl Gros 19-for-129 (6.8) in a 21-7 win over the Steelers at Franklin Field.

THIS IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE: The Eagles are the first NFL team in 43 years to rush for 175 yards in three straight games without a 100-yard rusher in any of the games. The 1978 Patriots did it four straight games in 1978.

TAKING IT TO THE HOUSE: Darius Slay is the fourth Eagle with two fumble recovery touchdowns in a season, the first since Juqua Parker in 2011. Seth Joyner had two in 1991 and WR Kevin Curtis actually had two in 2007 both on fumble recoveries in the end zone – one by Donovan McNabb against the Saints and one by Reggie Brown against the Bills.

PILING UP THE YARDS: The Eagles’ 626 rushing yards the last three weeks are their 5th-most in any three-game stretch over the last 70 years:

674 … 1978 [Week 3-5]
667 … 2013 [Week 13-15]
653 … 2002 [Week 5-7]
627 … 2013 [Week 1-3]
626 … 2021 [Week 8-10]
GETTING IT DONE ON THE ROAD: With wins by 38 points in Detroit, 26 points in Atlanta and 17 in Denver, this is only the 4th time since 1950 the Eagles have won three road games in a season by at least 17 points. They also did it in 1991, 2002 and 2004 (in addition to 1948 and 1949). The only other teams with three 17-point road wins this year are the Bills and Cards.

THREE IN A ROW: This is the only the 4th time since 1950 the Eagles have rushed for 175 or more yards in three straight games. They did it four weeks in a row - against the Bears, Cowboys and Broncos - late during the Super Bowl run in 2017. Before that in 1978 and 1990. They also did it five times before 1950.

ELITE COMPANY FOR JALEN: Jalen Hurts is the 4th quarterback in NFL history to complete 64 percent of his passes and also rush for at least 50 yards in three straight games. Steve Young, Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray also did it. Hurts’ 3,896 combined passing and rushing yards are 12th-most in NFL history by a quarterback in his first 14 career starts.

FIRST SINCE ARKANSAS FRED: DeVonta Smith became the first Eagles rookie with two TD catches in a game since Jordan Matthews did it twice in 2014, against Washington and Carolina, both at home. The last Eagles rookie with a two-TD catch game on the road was Fred Barnett in Phoenix in 1990.

KEEPING IT ON THE GROUND: The Eagles lead the NFL with 94 rushing first downs, which is the 10th-most in NFL history through 10 games. They’re on pace for 159 in 17 games, which would be the 3rd-most in history (behind the 2019 and 2020 Ravens). Even with 150, their pace for 16 games, that would be 5th-most in history and most ever by an NFC team.

Unrealistic comps and seemingly biased opinions is propaganda.

Comparing Hurts, with his weapons, with a year of waiting in the wings, to Wentz, the trash that he had and a Sam bradford trade 3 days before the season started is F****ing AWFUL AND DUMB.

Just because Sanders is the most talented doesnt mean he's the best. He cant catch, he has a terrible football IQ, he cant pass block and he's basically missed a 3rd of his games.

Mind you When Sanders is the starter we're 2-5 this year, and 2-9-1 last year.

But please, bring you're "this one time, in band camp, Jalen Reagor won a game of hop scotch over Devante Adams" Post.

Unrealistic comps?  Not like we are comparing the first 14 starts from two different eras.  We are talking about the first 14 starts that have occurred 5-6 years apart.

To be fair Wentz did have a full normal offseason with mini camps and normal training camp and at least one preseason game as a rookie.  Hurts came in during the COVID insanity where there was no mini camps, very limited training camp and no preseason.  Then he he came in late in the season on a bad team in complete dissaray.

Sanders is the best RB on the roster.  He isn't because he can't catch? But Jordan Howard is now a dual threat RB known for his catching? News to me.

Oh and now we are doing RB winzzz.  Yikes.

I was gonna post a tweet with the video but I decided that was a bad idea. It’s that unsettling.

Stacy looked very comfortable with what he did. Like it was natural. And it was almost like she was conditioned to it.

That’s truly frightening.

@eagle45

Try it...

Looks damn good. Secret to smoked turkey is patience.  I am brining but oven baking this year. First hour or so, upside down   Dark meat juice internally into the breast makes the breasts more like wing meat than the dry meat @eagle45 detests.   Looking forward to bringing my Thermoworks unit inside for temperature monitoring this year.  Best BBQ purchase I made in the last year.  I recommend the unit.  So much better than Weber’s

Here’s a trick mic you want gravy. Take the neck and I like to grab that little fat flap between the legs. Cut the wings off at the second joint. No meat on the first and little on the second.  Put in a medium pot with a chunk medium onion, some celery and a few sprigs of Rosemary and Thyme.  Cover with water to a boil, cover and simmer while you are cooking the turkey.  Strain out the chunks.  I like to take the second joints out separate and set to the side.  Whisk in a flour white sauce using the fat off of the skimming of the broth.  Then whisk in white wine and reduce, just like you would regular gravy.  While reducing, I take the meat from the second wing joints and put into the gravy.  Little chunks of meat are always a nice touch on my chestnut dressing.  I do use a bit of the broth made like this with my dressing.  I used to do cavity dressing but the advice these days is don’t so I stopped that and use the broth instead.

If you want a bit strong broth flavor, you can include the giblets in the broth.

Curious, do you use the carcass to make turkey stock?  I have never done that with a smoked bird.

Looked like both hit and a lot of times when a player turns to do a shoulder hit the side of his helmet does end up hitting the player

From Sheil at The Athletic:

The key? Hurts is a really, really efficient runner. Check out how he compares to Lamar Jackson. These are designed runs and scrambles (with kneel-downs removed).

Rushing: Lamar Jackson vs. Jalen Hurts
PLAYER RUSHES YARDS YPC SUCCESS RATE
102
642
6.3
51.7%
86
555
6.5
59.6%

Their styles are completely different. Jackson is more elusive, and Hurts is more physical. But the numbers are similar (although Hurts has played one more game). Both players have 20 runs of 10-plus yards. Jackson has five carries of 20-plus; Hurts has four.

Hurts has the highest rushing success rate among the 40 players with at least 75 carries. We can extend the sample to include last season. Among the 77 players with at least 100 rushes over the past two seasons, Hurts ranks second in success rate behind only Josh Allen. He’s averaging a whopping 6.3 YPC during that stretch.

As a team this year, the Eagles have run for 1,443 yards (second), and they lead the NFL in success rate.

Is there a source that separates scrambles from called run plays?

More fun with Hurts #s, this from The Ringer:

The past three weeks have proven that relying on a successful run game can be effective when it’s focused around a mobile passer, especially someone as good at running as Hurts is. Over that span, Hurts owns the highest deep-pass rate (24.1 percent), is fourth among passers in intermediate completion rate (73.3 percent), and ranks third in average depth of target (11.8). He’s completed 66.7 percent of his passes over the stretch, keying a significant jump in his overall completion rate. This year, Hurts is converting 10 percent more of his attempts than he did in 2020, while other behavioral metrics have been relatively stable.

Jalen Hurts’s Advanced Passing Numbers

Year Comp % Expected Comp % Catchable % On-Target % ADOT Tight-Window %
2021 62.2 +0.6 85.5 75.5 8.7 14.9
2020 52.0 -3.4 82.0 72.1 8.3 14.2
Data via Next Gen Stats, Sports Info Solutions

Play-action has been crucial for Hurts. Over the last three weeks, he’s completed 83.3 percent (fourth) of his throws off play-action while posting 12.3 yards per attempt (tied for fourth). On non-play-action passes, he’s completed only 58.3 percent of his throws (35th) and posted a YPA of 6.2 (24th). That leaves plenty of room for the 23-year-old to improve, but Sirianni has done well by gearing his offense to highlight Hurts’s strengths. He’s capable of making accurate throws downfield with ease.

Not sure, you'd prob have to get into football outsiders or PFF perhaps to find that? I don't have a sub to either...

What you guys are missing with Miles, this year, we are not taking away a 78, 68 and 52 yard run in this calculation.  He does not have a run over 25 yards.

Dropping his YPC average almost a full yard you are only removing a 24, 23, 23 and 18 yard carry.  Taking away four carries under 25 yards should not make a full YPC difference.  Imagine you numbers being "inflated" by three carries barely over 20 yards, and one 18 yard carry.

To get a full yard per carry difference from Jonathon Taylor, you are taking away an 83 and 78 yard carry.

Any way you look at it, it’s way too small of a sample size.  If Sanders actually starts to average 15 - 20 carries per game (as he should) and does for the remainder of the season, in all likelihood his numbers will average out to better "overall” gains, etc.

I've watched a couple people talk about the play, and they all agree that the Broncos are in man, but it doesn't seem to explain what the linebackers are doing on the play. They would be playing a lot differently if they were in man, i.e. one would follow Stoll on the seam route and the other would follow Jackson on the crosser, which doesn't happen.

Compare the defensive alignments in this video at the 1:37 and 6:12 marks.

Jalen Hurts vs Broncos - YouTube

The first is the completion to Goedert and the second is the running play. Both are described as "cover 1 man," but the linebacker play is completely different. If they were in man on the second play, the linebackers didn't get the memo.

I think I understand where we disagree. The Broncos are rushing four. That leaves seven guys. The offense has a maximum of five receivers - two ends, three backs. That leaves the defense with two extra men. Here's the pre-snap. The two defenders at the top of the screen are in man, clearly, with no help for almost 20 yards. The same with the two guys at the bottom. The MLB's guy is Howard.

 227508387_Man1.thumb.png.ba3d2aaa31d8466dba42f071ba3a4bcc.png

The WR at the top of the screen is running a deep cross. The TE (Stoll) is running a shallow cross. You can see the SS telling the DB covering Stoll that he's got him, which looks fine because Howard showed pass pro. In the next shot you'll see that DB peeling off. You'll also see that Howard has released.

404892926_Man2.thumb.png.2ac626d57ef23c0549611ad7fe5e16d2.png

The MLB got caught up in the wash and Howard springs free, wide open. It would not be a mistake to throw him the ball. However, there is nothing but open space ahead of Hurts and he takes off. Note that all the DBs have their backs to him.

1042776343_Man3.thumb.png.6f047f52cf9d22ab3dfda260ec24a479.png1203134896_Man5.thumb.png.0cb2ebcbc7370f2f0138f0a6d5667313.png

Hurts is 15 yards downfield before the DBs realize where he is, except for the FS, who had backed up 30 yards off the ball.

In summary, this was man coverage, single high safety. The SS is not in single coverage but moves up to take the shallow crosser. It's the right move because Stoll has better than a step on his man and that's the QB's easiest throw.

I would be derelict in my duty if I did not say kudos to the OL. Great pocket!
