Quez would get more action if we had a real quarterback

Ummmm

Fair.

Hurts is at least better than Flacco/Wilson/White though.

Not that it's saying much....

With Hurts at QB I'm not sure people realize how similar to the Ravens offense the Eagles are:

Ravens -- 316 rush attempts (Jackson 106 of those)

Eagles -- 338 rush attempts (Hurts 114 of those)

Rushing yards BAL -- Jackson 639 yards, Freeman 272, Murray 247

Rushing yards PHI -- Hurts 618 yards, Sanders 394, Howard 274

Passing yards per game BAL -- Jackson 272

Passing yards per game PHI -- Hurts 210

It's damn hard to find a WR group with this type of QB.  Since 2018 when Lamar Jackson was drafted the Ravens have also drafted at WR:

Jaleel Scott, Jordan Lasley (2018), Marquise Brown, Myles Boykin (2019), Devin Duvernay, James Proche (2020), Rashod Bateman, Tylan Wallace (2021).  Eight WR drafted in 4 years to pair with Lamar Jackson.  Hollywood Brown has over 2,000 career receiving yards so far; the other 7 guys have combined for less than 1,300 yards between them.  A lot of wasted resources spent at a position group that just doesn't see the ball a lot from Jackson.  The Ravens pass offense works best when they force-feed the ball to Mark Andrews at TE.

I said it yesterday; IMO Jackson is a more efficient and more prolific passer than Hurts -- at least to this point.  If the Ravens ample investment at WR has been mostly wasted to this point with Jackson, I'm not sure what drafting more WR will do for the Eagles.

Someone yesterday commented that the Eagles receivers need to seriously work on their scramble drills.  They are not good at shedding their defender and providing Hurts with open targets as he scrambles.  Hopefully the Eagles coaches can use the 2022 offseason to improve that aspect of the receivers' skill set ... and execution.  Unfortunately it is unlikely that we are going to see any meaningful progress on that during the remainder of this season.

There's a lot to be said for this; the WR need to be in tune and understand the QB's tendencies.

Way back when I played (waaay back), I was always coached that when the QB scrambled from pressure I needed to either move to the side he was scrambling to, or come back to the QB to give him a visible and easy target.  Then my first year of University football our QB didn't like that -- he told me "when I escape pressure I want you to break deep downfield".  It seemed counter-intuitive to me, but that's what he expected me to do so I did as he asked -- and it did work better.

Yup, drafting more receivers at this point to pair with hurts is a waste of time and resources as in an offense with hurts, WRs other than smith rarely see the ball.

Rather improve the defense.

Draft Day is on TV.  Is Howie Roseman Kevin Costner?

Maybe, Howie looks at the draft in terms of draft point value, if say their pick is worth 1000 points and they are able to flip it for more picks that they value at 1200 points, then Howie thinks he won.

Now if Howie turns around and uses that 1200 points to draft JJAW than ultimately it wasn't a win but in Howie's eyes it is because he got good draft value.

Play stupid games get stupid prizes.

Looking at Joel Buschbaum's Draft Pick tiers listed below, with some poetic license I get the following levels of players. The first six categories all apply to starting players, and the first three of those categories and the sixth are pretty easy to assign player names to, but "Quality" and "Solid" are a bit harder to differentiate.

Hall of Famer
Franchise QBs
Pro Bowler
Quality
Solid
Marginal
Key Backup
Marginal Backup
Special Teamer
Practice Squad
Bust

If you look at the 2017 Super Bowl Eagles team, what category do you assign each player to?

Cracks me up that all of a sudden people think we are good and will win the div, lol.

We beat a Saints team with a 3rd string QB, and BTW we didnt steam roll them, they almost came back to beat us with as people say a non functioning offense.

How does a no functioning offense have anything to do with beating a team with a 3rd string qb?

Btw that was a blow out don’t get it twisted.  Garbage time doesn’t count I’ve been told

Just my two cents.  Cox, Graham, McLeod and Brooks aren't what they used to be; Hurts, Reagor and Watkins will still have a chance to develop higher.  Hargrave has slowed down after a Pro Bowl start.

Starting off with a couple of bad running plays.

This one's on Miles - looking for a big run instead of taking what's there.2021-11-26.thumb.png.3af2e64b62bc23bf0f358a71e2876515.png

Sanders should take this straight up the A gap, lower his shoulder and get 4-5 yards. With hard running, he might get 8-10. Howard would run a bunch of these.

Straight up the hash, Miles.

But no, he bounces it outside, into the LB.

That game was a blow out. And his stats in that game were hallow garbage time stats. He has been trash in the first 3 quarters of every game he’s started over the last 4 weeks. You know how hard it is to have a 11 possessions in the first 3 quarters and 7 of them end in less than 60 seconds? The saints with siemian have found themselves down 18,11, 26 and 24 in the 4th quarter of all those games. Then starts playing better once down 2 or more possessions. Siemian’s stats say 9 passing tds to 3 ints and a 86 QB rating, he has not played anywhere close to what his stats indicate.

I gathered that much for sure.  Moneyball was on the other night as well, that's a sports movie I think was really well done.

This one's a real mess. Kelce, Driscoll, and Lane managed to block nobody on a run to the right off tackle.

Complete whiff by Kelce, Driscoll looks like's going for the LB, and Lane is trying to hold the DE1469966607_2021-11-26(5).thumb.png.b9813b8da221164491beab23df289ffa.png

No place to go. Hurts can't pull it because the DE is sitting on him and an untouched DT is waiting on Howard. Meanwhile, Kelce and Driscoll are blocking air and Lane is showing good tackling form.

1181437989_2021-11-26(6).thumb.png.5b2d7c1c1b9ee048af2c813e79d41a28.png

It ends badly. My best guess out of this mess is that this was an IZ and Driscoll and Lane are supposed to double the DE and Kelce has to turn the DT in.

This was the worst play of the game for our OL.

I went back and changed a couple, I didn't realize quality was between solid and pro bowl.

Thought it went solid then pro bowl.

I think i have turkey hangover...
