I mistated. What I meant was the totality of pressures, hits and sacks was far more important than just sack numbers.

If your DL can consistently move a QB and make him uncomfortable, that's a lot more valuable than a few sacks, mostly picked up due to the QB trying to extend a play or a blocker missing a block. Veteran QBs like Brady are difficult to sack b/c they get rid of the ball quickly and are willing to throw it away, but if you can disrupt their timing, it will often become a long day for them.

And I would never compare Barnett to Graham. That's silly. Graham is one of the most fundamentally sound two way DEs in the NFL. Barnett gambles too much and often takes himself out of the play.

Is Taysom Hill worse than Jalen Hurts?

As a BYU fan I'm going to be super objective and say no.😉

He's A lot like hurts , he's got a bigger arm than hurts though.

Like hurts he's a solid teammate hard worker high character dude.

Not sure about his swag factor.

I was about to say "Taysom Hill doing his best Jalen Hurts impression”, but he just threw a TD pass and ruined it.

It just occurred to me that it's Buck and Aikman calling a Cowboys game. So yeah, they will be rooting for their favorite team all night. Better just mute the broadcast now.

Well yeah but I was actually referring to some on here who love the Cowboys and all their recent draft picks.

No one said that it was all about sacks.  The point I made was that if Barnett was getting pressure... real pressure, as much as that stat claims, he'd be closer to the others on that list in terms of sacks, because just by the law of averages, he'd get home more than twice.  The point is, that little advanced metric is nice.  But its pretty meaningless when the Eagles have 2 DEs in the top 10, and 2 DTs in the top 10, and the defense is struggling as much as it has this year.  But, it can make some folks feel better about this team, I suppose.   But, if the DL was as dominant as that metric makes it seem, the Eagles' D would be much better.

Hargrave at 20%, Cox at 14%, Barnett at 27% and Sweat at 25%... and yet, the defense has been pretty pedestrian.  If the DL was as dominant as those numbers indicate, the other numbers wouldn't be so bad... like the number of times they've given up 80%+ completions.   Those are hollow numbers.

Taysom Hill has absolutely zero drip. He’s dryer than an overcooked turkey

Is this correct?

One has to factor what the back 7 is playing behind them as well, if they're all 10 yards off the ball in zone and leaving everything underneath wide open then the QB is going to just quickly dump it off and there's no way that pressure becomes a sack or really has much if an impact other than not giving the QB time to set up a longer throw.

Interestingly Gannon seamed to play a bit more press man against the Giants and when Jones had pressure he had to toss the ball before WRs we're ready which led to incompletions but sadly no turnovers.

That Maddox dropped Int was a shame, was a gimme gotta capitalize on those opportunities.

Sure.

But, at the same time, this isn't the 1991 Eagles' DL or the Fearsome Foursome either.  These pressure stat numbers seem awfully hollow.

It’s the guy throwing it to him.

No, that's a talented WR.

I agree, I can't remember too many Barnett pressures that negatively effected the offense, more often seems they negatively affect the defense as he's offsides or getting a late hit or over pursuing.

Not saying he isn’t talented, not having a guy who gets past first read makes spending on another WR fruitless.

Gallup with another great catch.  He'd be near the top of my Eagles FA targets.

Yup. Been saying this for weeks, hearing all this board chatter about FA or WR in the draft to pair with Smith, and I'm like why????

Hurts is a one Read take off when it's not there QB, waste of resources for another WR that will never see the ball.

To have the offense ready for when they get a real QB

Who knows when that will be and whose to say one of the WRs on the current roster might look capable with a real QB.

Can’t  get the ball to Our 1 guy now.

Dallas playing the cleanest game 1 week after committing 15 penalties? 🤔

Which is why I posed the question of why the win rate can be so high while the sack total so low. I think that question is a lot more interesting than your dismissal of that stat.

what a catch even if it was out of bounds

You still build the team, not build the team around Hurts if he’s not your long term guy. I’m not saying spend top dollar on the best FA, but you don’t avoid it all together. JJAW, Ward and Reagor are what they are. A better QB doesn’t change much.

I was really hoping Dak would throw a pick there at the end of the half and they wouldn’t get the field goal….

I'd take Quez at Z receiver and I still have a glimmer of hope that reagor can turn it around with a QB who can pass the ball, though that glimmer is getting quite dim.

If we could have just beat the lowly Giants id be into this game right now.
