The remark wasn't the authors, it was from what an alleged NFL " source" who used to work with the eagles said about Lurie.

The point is the alleged comment, stating whether  Lurie sticks to his principles when it comes to qbs.

Now one can argue the authenticity of that comment and if true would cause me to lose the little respect I have for Lurie.

You'd have to point me to a direct quote from Lurie or Howie saying it in their own words for me to put any validity to it -- but respect is about as subjective as anything.

I don't think there's a single NFL owner or GM that sticks to their "principles" when it comes to player acquisition -- but I'm more cynical than most.

I mean he couldn't beat the Giants who were missing 2 out of their top 3 CB's. I wouldn't be surprised.

Boy, if RTK and Infarm weren't so shy I bet they'd have something to say about your terrible attitude

There is ZERO chance Hurts could drop back 40ish times and beat the jets. He's not a NFL QB.

@LeanMeanGM Eagles 63 Jets 7 - Hurts throws for 450 yards and accounts for 9TDs (7 passing and 2 rushing)  Blog melts down, @RememberTheKoy's OnlyHurtsFan account has 10 new subscribers.

Hurts numbers across a 17 game season looking at his performances in the new run heavy offense from Detroit forward would be:

57.8%, 2,445 yards 10 TD's, 14 INT's

1,136 rushing yards, 10 rushing TD's, 3 fumbles

These numbers are him "showing improvement" or so i've been told.

I thought you were going to jump all over Doug's quote from the podcast with John Clark.  He used the word "rookie" at least 4 times when evaluating Hurts' performance this season.

I like watching the running game, in high school we ran triple option, we'd watch a lot of air force and navy tape, I grew up about 10 minute drive from U of U and back in the 90's under Ron McBride they were a smash mouth running team, think Jamal Anderson, Fuamatu Ma afala, Mike Anderson, big bruising backs behind some big fat uglies pushing dudes around paired with a physical Defense.

I like that style if football it may be old school but I think it's closer to the essence of what football is meant to be.

10000% man.  I always loved watching old Nebraska games, the academies and I grew up going to UD games with Tubby Raymond's Wing-T.  The Delaware Wing-T offense, when being executed right is a thing of beauty to watch.  So much misdirection and you can scheme to win with lesser talented guys.

As a kid, I LOVED Jerome Bettis (pre-Steelers, sorry Bacarty) and Natrone Means.  Delaware had a FB named Daryl Brown who was 6-2 240 and could run.  In the Wing-T, the FB was main running back.  He was so fun to watch and before his time as a big back.

 Agree,I don't think you're cynical, just realistic.

I'm comfortable saying nfl owners care more about money than they do about their " principles"

Yup, I could watch triple option, wing T even football all day, it seems so simple but there is beauty in simplicity, and like you say when run correctly a little more nuanced than I think the casual observer realizes.

I've really enjoyed all the different misdirection runs stout and Siri have been running off that zone read option, the QB counter trey option is a thing of beauty where both Mailata and Dickerson pull QB side, good stuff.

I thinkk  we could all agree that smash mouth football and run down your throats is a great attribute* to have.

You look at someone like Tom Brady he passed to set up the run. He also could pass to come from behind. I think we saw Big Ben do this some of his career and I always think this is why Peyton Manning, Elway(in the begining of his career) and even Rodgers now never had a run game to fall back on.

The problem with the Eagles, or Army or Navy for example is, if you'r down by 2 scores, your basically F****ed.

Hypothetical... Hurts is a little banged up, Jets are up 17-3 going into the 3rd quarter... you have confidence that Hurts can throw the ball around and bring us back two scores?

Yup problem with triple option run football is if one is down it's tough to come back if one cant pass

We were lucky in highschool to have some qbs that were pretty good passers along with a passing game that was enough of a threat for our team to be successful.

Problem in the NFL isn't that a scheme like the eagles are currently running can't work it's that for it to work the QB also needs to be able to pass and guys that can run as well as hurts and also be able to be top passers are extremely rare.

I think the only guy I can think of is Steve Young, he was a super efficient passer and also a great runner.

Then again he also suffered from concussions so while one can design an offense around a running QB one may also be opening ones QB to more hits.

Not sure when hurts got dinged but the Giants went old school with the defense and hit him on that read option whether he had it or not, we were taught the same in highschool when facing option teams, hit that QB every time and force him to give it or get smacked.

If teams keep doing that to hurts all year he's not going to last and it's not like the refs would ever call roughing or late hit, though I'm sure if Brady ran an option run play and the defender sneezed on him the refs would throw a flag.

Doesn’t Howie have final say on all players, unless Lurie overrules him?  Hopefully that doesn’t happen, but Lurie is the owner.

Or maybe Roseman is just a **** GM.

And... one bad play kills a drive even if you aren't losing.

was actually impressed by Sean Payton last night in his running scheme for Taysom Hill.

Was hoping NS was watching to be honest.

And by the way... Taysom Hill = Jalen Hurts

Taysom has a stronger arm than hurts but yeah agree they are very similar in skill set and how they are  used

Yup, a 5 yard penalty or 3 yards loss will kill a drive

I think the eagles run game has been so dominant though they've been able to over come those minor set backs and get back on schedule with a 8 yard run on 1st and 15

This might be a bridge too far.  Hill is a dreadful QB.  If he and Hurts are indeed comparable I may have to take a long walk and contemplate the nature of the universe

Yeah no $hit he drafted Hurts in the 2nd round

Can’t believe it took such a long time but outside of the Cowboys game the Giants was the only other team I seen stack against the run and make Hurts beat them throwing. Going forward I’m guessing Hurts should see this type of defense more often.

Might have been a Lurie call that Roseman agreed to. According to the report

Guy A)  19 for 41, 264,  2touchdowns 4 INT's - 101 yards rushing against a middle of the road defense

Guy B)  14 for 31, 129 yards, 0 touchdowns, 3 INT's, 77 rushing yards against a terrible defense missing it's best 2 defensive backs.

You can also argue Guy B has more weapons than Guy A

No, there is no argument. Guy B clearly has more weapons.

Hypothetically, would you rather have Howie for the next 10 years or Hurts as your starting QB the next 10 years. Neither is not an option.

Yup guy A has nothing at WR or RB or TE right now.

At least guy B has a dominant O line and a couple weapons In the passing game he can't get the ball to.
