You must be thinking of the rookie guy... we haven't seen that from him since then.  He regressed there big time.

Get the heck out of here.  lol.  Sanders has very good hands and he tremendous after the catch ability.  If he was on an Andy Reid team he would likely have upwards of 700-800 yards receiving and another 800-1000 yards on the ground if he played most of the games.   He's an explosive playmaker.  He's made some incredible runs this year but Sirianni hasn't drawn up any special passing plays for him.  If he's used on a 50/50 run/pass basis, he's less likely to get hurt and his numbers would be fantastic ...with tons of "big plays" mixed in.

No, I'm seriously using that as a way of illustrating their differences specifically to illustrate the Football IQ.

But, sure... find me an example where this guy...

Ran out of bounds when the team was trying to kill the clock.

As for the bolded... just nope.

You ask and you shall receive...

Super Bowl 27 just popped up on my YouTube feed (probably because Madden was calling the game)… Jim Kelly has just gone down and Frank Reich has gone in.  The production value is awesome - instant replay which is instant because it has to be, the game moves so quick - few commercials, few penalties, no challenges - camera feeds constantly changing to pick up different details. Madden/Summerall are doing a great job. A delight to watch - highly recommended after slogging through the modern Schlereth derivative.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the end result could be better.

That’s ridiculous if that’s per year. especially in his 3 game absence after the raiders game they ran for 236, 176 and 216 yards. You’re freaking out because one game against Washington where they didn’t have him, they didn’t run Greta and still got 118 rushing yards. Meanwhile 3 out of the 4 games Miles Sanders hasn’t been there this year they rushed over 170 yards. So you’re telling me he’s so irreplaceable that in the games without sanders the eagles are averaging 186.5 yard on the ground.

That would be fun to see if they did.   Oh, the humanity!

Not since his rookie year. He's been a major disappointment in that area since then.

And Brian Westbrook has 10x the football IQ of Sanders. Not even close.  You ever see Westbrook run out of bounds at the end of a game when trying to kill the clock?  Did you see it once in his entire career?   Let alone twice on the same drive?   Ball security?  Sanders leaves way too many balls on the ground to be compared to Westbrook.    Again... no more hyperbole, please.

Not only that Brian Westbrook was Mr. everything for the Philadelphia eagles after 2004. I would argue he was the best playmaker the eagles had for nearly half a decade. I’m not sure miles sanders is the best playmaker on this team. It might be goedert with how he turned it on

If there’s a running back that’s remotely close to what Brian Westbrook was in today’s game It’s Alvin Kamara or mccaffrey before all the injuries. Alvin Kamara is a great pass catching running back. Sanders I wouldn’t even put in the top 5 running backs in the league pass catching wise. I think mccaffrey, cook, kamara, , ekeler, Harris and Jonathan Taylor. He is stuck on the fact about 2019 where he had 50 receptions. He has gotten worse as a pass catcher every single year. To the point that the Eagles drafted Gainwell and used him more as the pass catching back over Miles Sanders through the first 10 games of the year

Did that guy say Sanders has great receiving ability? Lol

Just now, Ace Nova said:

No, you got it backwards... where Brian Westbrook ran out of bounds on a clock killing drive.   Sanders ran out of bounds twice this year, I think it was... maybe the Falcons' game... on the drive to kill the clock, not once, but twice.  First time, he at least had picked up a first down first.   The next one, he lost yards, I think and just lackadaisically sauntered out of bounds.  He was then immediately replaced by the ROOKIE Kenneth Gainwell, so that he wouldn't do it a third time.

How did this Sanders vs Westbrook thing happen?

Not really.

Its weird. Sanders came to the NFL raw as a runner with questionable vision which was explained away as lack of experience due to being behind Barkley at PSU and just 1 year of starting experience.

For the first half of his rookie season he was crappy as a runner, but kept making huge plays in the passing game. Mostly swing passes. Not WR routes.

That offseason, he began working out as a WR trying to work more on his hands, and learn a more varied route tree so he could really increase his contribution in the passing game. And what happened? He came to the next season as a fantastic runner with a horrible set of hands and drops plagued him throughout the year. He never really got utilized out wide, or even in the slot as he had set his goal to do.

This year, he hasnt been used as much receiving the ball, but still even with just RB routes he hasnt dont much to inspire confidence. He hasnt had a ton of drops. But he hasnt done anything to stand out and prove he is ready to take the next step. Hes an even better runner though. Hes phenomenal as a pure RB.

But how the hell anyone can say he has the same skillet as Westbrook... hes not anywhere close.

Westbrook was returning punts his rookie year.  He didn't "break out" either until his 2nd year and his first "elite season" was his 3rd year.

Get Sanders 15 running plays per game plus 8+ targets per game and watch what he does.  Just needs to stay healthy, really.

Misses the next 3 with an injury.   All we've seen is that he can't handle anything close to 25 touches a game.

Ace_nova thinks they’re equal.

A quick looks shows BW posted 41 rushing TDs and 30 receiving TDs in an 8 year career. Sanders has 9 and 3, respectively in 3 years.

It’s an exceptional play because nobody makes it "on a regular basis”.

And plenty of nfl qbs can make that play

well maybe... but we havent seen that from him yet. The only concrete thing we have seen from him as a receiver is a massive unquestionable regression. So I can understand being hopeful. But that doesnt make it a good comparison, and certainly not realistic to say he is unquestionably comparable to Westbrook as a WR. Right now thats moving further from rather than closer to the truth.

That's a rookie coach type of decision.  Reid would have had a little "chat" with Sanders on the sideline then thrown in back out there.  Nothing against Gainwell but if Sanders is healthy, Sanders is the lead back.

No.  That's a rookie RB type decision.  Any RB that's been in the league that long would know that they can't do that.  Sanders is a 3rd year RB and he runs out of bounds?  TWICE?!  Nah, that's not something that's a quick chat.  That's a park your butt on the sidelines because I can't trust you to do the right thing.

He’s gotta be trolling with that response. Sirianni made the absolute right call to bench him then

If he got the 1st down on the 1 play then that's perfectly fine.  He's not Blount.  I'd rather him go out of bounds if he already has the first down vs fighting for a meaningless yard and risking injury.

So trade/cut/bench Sanders because he "went out of bounds" on 1 play?   Are you related to Buddy Ryan?

Or he could be the best version of what he is here with our tight ends and running game.  The hatred people have for Hurts shines through when they admit he is good enough for another team want to trade for and have this young QB but for some reason he can't be that here.

There's no hate for him.  I don't think he's good enough as a quarterback to run the offense the way Sirianni intends to.  They've invested a ton in WR. Hurts goes to the RB and TE way more than he does WR.  I want a QB to give the ball to Smith 6-8 times a game, Watkins 4-5 times a game and Goedert 5-6 times a game.  Sprinkle in some RB passes/screens and that's great.

Wanting better play at the QB position does not equal hate.  Goodness.

That's why I want him to get around 15 carries per game with about 8 targets per game.  23 touches per game is fine if only 15 of them are carries.   His big play ability alone warrants him getting that many.

Ever hear of sliding?

I didnt say bench him forever.  But for that drive... yeah, he sits.  Playing time is the only thing that really bothers professional athletes. So he watches the rest of that drive.  He gets a chance to prove he learned something the next time.

Not sure your Buddy reference here.  Care to explain that one.

We have information overload now.  Those old broadcasts were just great.  I love watching classic NCAA games when they show them too.  As you alluded to, there was no fluff or down to the sideline.  It was game with play-by-play followed by commentary and replays.

Explain the Buddy Ryan comment. Please.

That's totally something Buddy would have done.  Bench a star player for not playing hard enough, running out of bounds, etc.  Heck, if it was bad enough, Buddy would have cut him.  He cut Cris Carter because "all he did was catch TD passes".
