I don't think Rodgers will want to come to the Eagles even if he's available.  I am not convinced the Packers will move on from Rodgers.  I think a lot of it depends on how this season plays out. If the Packers win it all, I think Rodgers stays and the Packers trade Love.  If they lose in the Super Bowl, I think Rodgers is still likely to stay in GB.  If they lose in the Championship game or before that again, I think he gets traded.  Maybe Rodgers will look at the Eagles as a good landing spot if he wants to win.  I think he's likely to end up in the AFC in either Denver or Miami. It's possible if he wants to win it all, that he would think the NFC East is a better landing spot for him.  I would have to think the Packers wouldn't want to trade him inside the NFC.

He'd probably like beating up on Giants and Skins. He'd go from one huge rivalry to another though. Would he want to come here when our defense is suspect? Also the GM didn't help the last franchise QB

I think he'd like working with Nick. We all thought Nick was a stubborn idiot when he was making Hurts throw so much in the beginning but he's changed

Maybe with a QB that can do it all he'd be able to open up his playbook more

Not talking about what Rodgers wants, this is the elite QB v rolling with Hurts discussion.  It is quite clear this team could win several playoff games with an elite QB, and Rodgers is the perfect example as we have the same defense statistically.

I'm not sure about winning several playoff games. I don't think our defense is as good as it appears. Who would he have to throw to besides Smith and Goedert? Maybe with Rodgers we'd see Watkins used better and perform better but who knows. Same with Reagor. I'm sure he'd love our Oline when it's healthy

There it is. The dumbest tweet that can unite everyone together

Fair.  I want to present some data and get your thoughts.  If you look below, you see Hurts' game log.  (It's in reverse order, for some reason).  The season kind of breaks down into three sections.

The first, through the Raiders game, we saw Sirianni throwing the ball all over the yard.  I calculated his passer rating to be 89.  It was clearly not effective and the best use of Hurts' skill set.

The second is when we basically "took the ball out of his hands".  Passer rating is 93.  But because we emphasized the run game, we saw better results.  Also, for context, aside from Detroit, these weren't the pushovers we saw later in the season.

Let's set aside the Giants game.  It's still relevant, but I'm going to call it the mulligan game.  Every QB has one.  Even Rodgers had one against the Saints this season.

Then we have the last three.  Passer rating jumps to 101.  YPA jumps from 7 yards early in the year to almost 9.  Opponents are a little more suspect, but WFT does have a decent defense.

Will you entertain the notion that he has improved over the course of the season and that Hurts may be capable of improving even more?

To be clear, I am not convinced he is the guy yet.  Seeing the field, releasing on time, and ball placement are still concerns. But I can admit his performance trajectory is positive.

I think you really believe this in spite of multiple posts to the contrary.

I see it coming as 7 playoff teams is such an odd number.  The NFL has turned demand-side marketing to an art form. I get the incentive for HFA and a 1st round bye, but 8 teams makes more sense. and heck...Why not have a 8 vs 9 seed play-in game if you are getting so silly.

I think Hurts has improved, and he's trying to stay in the pocket.

One reason going to the run helped him, was play action helped the pass blocking and made it harder to blitz.

But got to walk before you can run. Hurts and the offense are both a work in progress, and a complete change from last season.

Doesn't matter if you're drafting a lot of players.

Big assumption there being that those drafted players can actually play.  We've had some instances where that hasn't been true... but ignoring the failed contracts of the past and excusing them by saying that drafting fixes that is sort of disingenuous when the reason that this team had to go out and sign so many players, especially on defense, is due to their inability to actually draft players on that side of the ball.

Being at the top of the dead money list is another bad sign and a reason to call the situation mismanaged.  Each team gets a finite amount of money to spend and when you throw bad money into the mix, you can't make up for it by pushing that money to the future and think that's a solution.  Its not.  Yes, the number in the future is likely to rise, but that still means that the Eagles will be limited compared to other teams, because they will have less money than their competition.  And as a result they only have 80% of the available money, or 90% or whatever compared to their competitors.  That means operating at a disadvantage.

Pretty sure our crack coaching staff should be able to learn more from watching tape as opposed to what that goofball tells them.  I would like for us to get him, just because I’d love the theatre of it all.  It would hilarious.

I can't see a play-in game ever happening. An extra game in football is not equivalent to say, baseball, where play-ins are a thing. I can see the expansion to 18 games and 8 playoff teams though.

Sure there is... 18 games, and then

Expand it to 10 teams.

Weekend 1 = 7 plays 10,  8 plays 9.

Weekend 2 = 1 plays lowest seed, 2 plays next lowest.  3 plays 6, 4 plays 5.

Weekend 3 = Highest plays lowest, Next highest plays next lowest.

Weekend 4 = Championship Weekend

Weekend 5 = Super Bowl.

Top 6 seeds get a bye.

I can totally see it happening.

Well if it works for Hurts and the Eagles....it works for Wentz and the Colts.

Yeah but that would be the team’s success. And in either situation it’s apparent that the individual QB is not the sole reason for success.

My beef here is the belief that Wentz is going to have some great success when the reality is he’s been straight trash for the last couple seasons.

I know this wasnt directed to me, but Im wondering:

Are people really seeing this alleged "improvement" with their eyes or just the stat sheet?

We've played some garbage teams and everyone knows that.  Im not sure comparing sections of the season is fair given the stark difference in quality of opponent.

Going by the eye test:

Reading defenses and coverage--I see no real improvement.  Sorry, I just dont

Fundamentals (pocket presence, footwork, arm motion) -- I see some marginal improvement and expect this to get a little better in time.

Ball control (turnovers, game management) - marginal improvement but still has nervous moments almost every game that make me wonder

Yes, he has improved, but as you said, his improvement coincides with the level of opponent decreasing.  Go look at the games for WFT and NYG in that same stretch.  All the other QB's who played them looked better, some light years better.  Tua looked way better against the Giants the week after Hurts laid an egg.

Hurts will always be an average starter IMO.

I think we get carried away with this stuff. The league changed to sixteen games in what, 1978? It's fooled around with the bye weeks a few times, but it took 40 years to go to 17. If the league expands with more franchises, then I could see your scenario coming to. But, if they stay at 32 teams, I just don't see that big of a change being made so soon. I could be totally wrong though.

5 minutes ago, 4for4EaglesNest said:

You didn't ask me, but I'll chime in anyway.  The less attempts the better the rating.  You can take out the first NYG game all you want.  But he was not good passing the ball the week before against N.O.  I def agree that Nick deserves kudos for changing things around to make up for Hurts' weaknesses.  I honestly thought last week he looked pretty good for what he is.  Which when effective is still only around a 63% 200 yard a game passer.  He can improve....but to what?  What's his ceiling and is it high enough?  I don't think it is.

Hurts has been inconsistent this year, I think is the best way to describe him. And inconsistent in every way, from game to game, quarter to quarter, drive to drive. It's frustrating as a fan to watch, because you get amped up after his first half against Denver for instance, only for him to come out and completely play like crap the second half. I think it's why there's so much division when discussing him. Each "side" can point to positives and negatives from every game/quarter/drive, that we just talk in circles. The bottom line is if he can become more consistent with his passing, he'll actually be a good QB. If he continues his inconsistent play, we'll be looking for a new guy in 2023 (I think Hurts bought himself another year here).

At some point, the regular season will be meaningless, just like MLB, NHL, and NBA.  The biggest edge the nfl has over other sports is that every Sunday means something.

Might as well start resting star players in October before you’ve clinched anything if you are a typical team.  You’re going to the playoffs and not getting a bye either way.
