I just always have viewed Mailata as the $5 scratch off that says "win up to $100,000.00” that actually hits. Howie gets credit for not buying 5 of the $1 scratch offs. I don’t think that outlook gives enough credit to the pick. Yes, Jordan was obviously a low risk/high upside pick, but plenty of other teams could have pulled the trigger on him and didn’t. It required not only a recognition of the lopsided risk/reward, but an actually plan and commitment to develop him. Lots of teams in the NFL don’t have the patience to work with a guy for 3 years, devote a roster spot to him, or have the willingness to let such a raw prospect make mistakes in the field no matter how high the upside is. Howie is the general manager, and he managed the entire situation to perfection.

September 19, 20214 yr Sorry if already posted. Happy with this move. Wonder if this means anything to Barnett’s long term prospects with the team.

Let's be clear, the Eagles did not 'let such a raw prospect make mistakes in the field no matter how high the upside is'. They used him last season when they were forced to. And as soon as Peters was available, they benched him again. He played last year due to necessity, not design. Now, he is playing because he earned it, not because they wanted to develop him more. Everything else you said is accurate.

How many teams would let an OL on the field who had never played the sport before? I reckon not many. Most would likely make a roster move, bring in a veteran, maybe even demote him to the PS to make space. Not the Eagles.

September 19, 20214 yr Hargrave looked offsides. Either an amazing jump, or just a lucky play that he wasn't caught. He was in year 3 and it was make or break time. But, they didn't do it by design, their hand was forced.
