From playing in the CFL to backing up Nate Gerry to becoming a team captain. What a journey.

Good job Singleton

Has a QB ever not been named a captain?

2016 I’m pretty sure Wentz wasn’t

Ertz first 3 years are a lot better than Goederts. I'm glad Howie hasn't given Goedert a big contract yet

Goedert has more touchdowns.

I have nothing to add here other than "Jim Bob Cooter" remains the single greatest football name of all time.

I will put this thought out there in the ether of the internet...  I wonder if the development of a certain QB turned TE might have changed their motivation.

Could be.  Also maybe…big maybe…Howie has learned from his past mistakes and realized that it’s generally cheaper to let players finish their contracts.

Mailata, Goedert, and Sweat are the popular "have to extend” names.  Extend them now, and basically we are paying them for the breakout year everyone hopes they have.  Just being realistic, at least 1 of them is going to miss serious time, disappoint, and can be extended for a fraction of what they’ll cost now.  Those savings alone will cover the premium it’ll cost to extend the other 2 if they do have those breakout years.

@Swoop I know you want that Jalen Hurts one on one passing clinic. Now what I can’t figure out is if he’s supposed to be teaching us, or the other way around.

Are they also giving away a Ben Simmons make or miss, this is how you shoot clinic ??

Can you imagine if he was the coach last year? He would have to wear a novelty oversized visor

In Philly, with this roster?  He’s gonna need a bigger visor.

Phillies living off the home run today; ahead 4-0 in the 7th but just left the bases loaded and nobody out without scoring.  Wheeler can probably go one more inning.  Can the bullpen get six out without giving up 5 runs?

I would have figured Hurts provided enough leadership that they wouldn’t need any other captains.

One of my favourite names was Curry Burns.

Segura just hit a grand-daddy, 11-0 Phillies.  That's their 5th dinger on the day.  Funny, because before this game their lineup was a combined 7 for 59 vs the SP Woodruff, including Harper being 0-5 with 5 Ks.  Not today.  They got on him early and never let up.

I would go the other way... nothing wrong with extending your own players, in fact, it can be a really good thing.  The trouble is that Howie spent a lot of contract negotiations negotiating against himself.   He made Brandon Brooks the highest paid OG in the NFL... at least one, if not two years before he was due to hit FA.  He did the same thing with Lane Johnson, with the richest for a RT, and might have been #2 for OT, in general... once again, a year or two before he was due to hit FA.   AND... he did this with Brooks after he blew out his first Achilles, just as he was about to hit 30.

If you are extending players early, then the way to play it has to be what this team used to do, which is the player gets security and the team gets a more team friendly deal, and it should be friendly in total dollars, not just the cap number in the short term.  If you kick the can on a bunch of players, eventually the piper needs to be paid.  It will be paid very shortly.  Because the cap hit we are dealing with right now is dead money for primarily Wentz, this year.  They will be $35M in dead money for 2022, and that's before anything else happens.  And they still have to swallow those poison pills of the Graham, Cox, Johnson, Brooks and Kelce contracts in the coming years.  Those will be big hits.  And sure, Howie might play funny with it, just like he did with Alshon Jeffery and Malik Jackson... and rather than taking the poison pill this year, Howie kicked the higher amount to the future.  ($9.1M for Jeffery/Jackson this year, and also $14.4M for 2022.  🤦‍♂️. ). It will be... uh... interesting to the way that the cap issues all come to a head.

NVM... I considered going that way, then decided it looked small... and the one thing I learned from keeping fish was: smaller volumes are harder to keep at steady parameters than bigger ones.   So, I then decided to go with a dedicated smoker, and ended up with a pellet.  Very easy to use and very low stress... which is what its all about for me.  Bad news is that I have to get a new grill as well now... the good news is that I get to buy a new grill now.   So, I'll have a smoker and a propane grill... both full size.  Best of both worlds.

Making St. Louis style ribs today.

My smoker is an antique at this point.  Close to 40 year old Mr. Meat vertical smoker. Just big enough for a rack of ribs, two if I halve the second one or a brisket.  I love the drawer to feed charcoal and wood and keep the water pan full.  The water pan doesn’t steam the meat but keeps just a little moisture in the smoker.  When I do jerky, I start it in the afternoon and feed it around midnight and wake up to delicious jerky. I tend to use flank steak and cut it thick for jerky.  Giant had boneless  pork ribs on sale last week, so I bought some and rubbed them yesterday and let them sit for 24 hours. Slow smoked with hickory today and finished them with a brown sugar base BBQ sauce.  Leftovers will be used as a McRib style sandwich.

i have a Weber four burner. I like it. Easy to clean.  Seems pretty rust resistant. I bought a griddle that had a drain hole that puts the grease right in the grease pan. With a mix of apple and hickory chips, I may never cook bacon inside again.

The Ben Simmons Experience:  He stands alone under the basket and passes the ball to you so you can hit an outside shot from 10'+.

I'd like to see him make some tackles before boarding that train. And I say this as a lifelong Notre Dame fan who's seen Hamilton play since his first game as a freshman and immediately thought he could be special. He's athletic as hell in space but he's no Dawkins level hitter.

Nah, you want a Dawk level hitter, Brisker is the S for you.  Unfortunately, he seems best suited as a SS.

I think that Ben Simmons would likely finish in the bottom half of a 'Knock Out' tournament with 9 randomly selected bloggers.

The way Howie has been doing it recently, I think it very much might be.

What really made Dawkins special was that he hit like a LB, but had CB-like skills, making him the perfect do-it-all FS.   We won't see another player like that in a very long time... maybe a generation.
