If they get a good thing going with Dillard/Mailata, I wouldn't really want to go back to Lane later in the year.

Sounds like he's out for Thursday definitely then.  Was unlikely anyway, but this would pretty much seal it.  In a short week, they don't usually like to make changes.  And if they can't have him in the lineup today... he won't be in the lineup on Thursday.

He offered up that nugget unprompted. I'd say that implies he's out for the foreseeable future.

I thought Carolina did themselves a disservice by rarely leaving in anyone to help protect. Our DL definitely had a lot of success with their individual matchups. Kudos to the DL and defensive staff.

Yeah... seems so.

Zach Ertz, a finesse TE who never had his body abused, was dead in the water here at 30.

That's becuase Zach Ertz head and heart has not been in it.  He wanted a big new contract last season, he didn't get it and he wanted to be traded or released this past offseason and that hasn't occurred either.  He's clearly been checked out mentally since.

I never said 27 was old.  You said he was a young player.  He's not.  He would be 27 next season.  Which is slightly over the average age.  So using his "youth" as a reason to keep him, when the rest of the team is incomplete, is dumb.

Yet you just called him "young" again.  And he's not a "blue chip" player.  And it's not one of the "most valuable" or "premiere" either.  You laid out a smorgasbord of BS with this post.

Well all I know, is that because they both got extended that the 2018 draft is now a good one.  🙃

He is a young player.  He is 26 and will only be 27 next season.  That is young.  TE is a premiere position and he is a blue chip player.  I'm just going to toss you back on ignore, not sure why you are off it but there is never anything of value with your posts.

To once again beat a dead horse:

We should be trading Goedert. Re-signing him just doesn't make sense.

IMO, it wouldn't make sense to tie up what little cap we have in a TE, when we are no where near competing and won't be until he's on the decline.

Not sure that they'll trade him, but it seems the Eagles are planning to move on, as well. Think they showed that further with the Sweat/Mailata deals.

I'll give credit when due, Dillard has been pretty solid the last few weeks. Pardon the TATE cliche but this Bucs game will be the real test. He should be solid against the little guys in Dallas, and even Carolina isn't a big DE group. Bucs have some serious power and will be a big test if Dillard can play.

Maybe it'd be best if they use Lane's roster spot on someone else for now. Give Lane some time to deal with whatever he's dealing with

Blue chip or not, Goedert is averaging 3 catches per game down from the 4.5 catches per game he's averaged for his career.  Even in times when Ertz has been hurt, Goedert has never taken that next step.  It's always, this is the year that Goedert steps up.  It's just not happening.

Would you rather invest $12-15 million in one player who might get 4 catches per game or would you rather bring in another DE/safety/LB?  This team has so many holes on defense that they are going to need every penny they have to help fill some of them.

He's a luxury they can't afford.  You sign him to the contract he wants then you're going to continue to see 6th rounders and UDFA littered across the defense.

Not a bad idea but can they?  He can't go on IR.  How does the non-injury list work?

There isn't much they can do in terms of that.

@RememberTheKoy why would you be rushing to extend a guy who is averaging 3 catches for 43 yards and less than 1 TD per game ??

He is obviously not fitting into the offensive system this team is moving ahead with.

Not a bad idea, but I dont think there's a mechanism for that.  And with the PS rules about elevating players, I dont think it's as big a deal this year as it would be in other years.

Goedert is being hurt by Ertz still existing on this roster and taking snaps form him.  He also obviously should be used more as he is one of the most efficient players on the Eagles offense.  That's just one of the very concerning issues with Sirianni as a play caller and offensive head coach that hopefully corrects itself over the course of the season.

You don't let good players go when you hit on them in the draft.

I love Goedert and think he should be a primary target for this offense. He's a pretty rare guy and I wouldn't be against re-signing him. But if someone offers real value for him? I'm shipping him out. He's 2-3 years away from the fan base declaring him a dinosaur and there's no guarantee this team is a playoff contender before then anyway. Make the deal, get more young, cheap guys in here.

Stats like that are kind of dumb when the samples size is insanely small.  Those number would regress to the mean if he was targeted more.  If he is so good, why has he only been targeted 19 times in 5 games ??  He is 19th in targets, and is going to want top 5-7 money.  If you are going to pay someone like that, you have to use them, which we dont.

Because Sirianni is in over his head as a play caller and we see it every week. It's very clear that Goedert should be featured more.  I would expect him to be featured more as the season goes on and Sirianni starts to see what is and what isn't working.

You know even less about negotiating than you do about football evaluation.  That is an incredibly inept approach to negotiations. Eagles are no longer in a cap relief situation so sell cheap for cap relief is off the table.  You might read up on "anchoring” in negotiations.  So my offer was anchored with the second round valuation that was widely rumored as the Eagles ask.  (So, by the way was @Iggles_Phan’s suggestion of a 2023 first which is a great gambit as a first two years removed would have second round value). I played to their ego while focusing on a need multiplied by their success possibly being driven far this year thus amplifying the need.  Basically, you will be picking 32nd if you fix your hole with Ertz so your first is practically a second but to compensate for those few extra slots, we will throw in a fifth, and offered the cowpads, which is currently the lower of the two the Eagles own.

If Howie didn’t cut off discussion if they counter with a 6, then he is not even the horse trader he is rumored to be.  We got a 6 for Pryor and a seventh.   A sixth would be the type of lowball offer that cuts off negotiations before they even start.  The fifth is enough to be enticing to the other team.  If I was the Cardinals, I’d counter with a fourth for Ertz and the higher fifth hoping if I could land that package with a third on my next bid.  I would point to age and last year’s production, which they know the Eagles will counter with recovery from injury and this year’s performance, hindered only by our wealth with Goedert.  That suggests the possibility of Goedert as an alternative in the discussion.

You keep talking about how he is "creating a ton of open guys" after the game yesterday, I don't know how anyone with any sense can say that.  But then again......

He was hired to by two bean counting nerds who were swoon by the fact that he is a "rah rah" cool guy.  Just for them to think that he is HC material should tell anyone they need to know about how far off the reservation they are.  They main reason he was hired, is because he said "yes".  He seems like a great guy.  But he's completely lost as a HC.  Even "IF" he was "scheming guys open" as much as you say he is, that is still not reason enough to believe he's a decent or good Head Coach.

Offensively, this team is a joke.

- Little downfield passing game

- No intermediate passing game

- Went a few weeks without putting a WR in motion and only did so after being called out on it

- Screen Screen Screen Screen Screen

- Refuses to run the ball

- WR (his position of expertise) making the same mistakes over and over again.  Pick plays and running OOB.

Nick Sirranni is the last offensive-minded Head Coach who should be praised on how he is coaching any portion of the offense.

What 1 thing is this offense good at, consistently?  Better yet, what one thing is this team good at consistently?
