America’s employers added a robust 253,000 jobs in April, evidence of a labor market that still shows surprising strength despite rising interest rates, chronically high inflation and a banking crisis that could weaken the economy.

The unemployment rate ticked down to 3.4%, matching a 54-year low. Last month’s hiring gain compared with 165,000 in March and 248,000 in February, and is at a level considered vigorous by historical standards.

The Biden economic miracle keeps rolling.  My condolences to the media and the Republican Party.

The Republican-sponsored bill passed by a vote of 218-203 with two Democrats joining the Republican majority in favor of the resolution. It’s unclear whether the bill will pass the Democrat-controlled Senate, but if it does, the White House has already vowed to veto it.

I thought you were a democrat? They're the ones pushing for the debt relief

Not by choice, which is why I despise Trump. Yes, I voted for Biden and hate what populism has done to the GOP, but I'd vote for Amash, Romney, and any other sensible fiscal conservatives in a second if given the chance. Socially liberal and fiscally conservative minded people no longer have a home in the modern-day GOP.

Inflation was 0.1% for May, down to 4% YoY. https://www.bls.gov/cpi/latest-numbers.htm

Seems like a good report to me.

Market will probably tank because it's wholly irrational lol.

Maybe a slight dip but I would be shocked at anything significant. We're up like 5% or so in the past month, so yeah some of that might erode a bit, but would be shocked if we lost most of those gains by week's end. I guess if the larger concern is that this is the start of a trend toward a deflationary spiral then yeah i could see some bleeding but who knows.

Premarket looks way up. Maybe I'll profit take at like 10-11am because I feel like there's always a pullback in the afternoon.

More likely I'll just do nothing because I tend to overthink trades past the point of where I should have made them.

That's where I'm at, time in the market vs timing the market. If I do anything, it's usually turning down or stopping the faucet of money going in.

When schools offer free lunch to students, everybody wins.

I can afford food and don't have children, so I'm not winning.

So at least one of us is happy with higher grocery bills. You could buy something else with the savings, more stocks or something.

There is always one I suppose.

1. When's the last time you think I bought groceries?

2. I'd prefer the poors starve and die off

Touche. I imagine grocery costs has some ripple effect to catering and restaurants, but this was not part of the study.

Starving children is ok but abortion is not? I have a hard time grasping this set of morals.

I'm pro choice. I wouldn't personally support my wife having an abortion, but other people are free to burn in hell.

I'm pro poors dying in any way possible -- pre or post birth.

Unreal.  They've stuck the landing.  Biden should award himself the Medal of Freedom in the next SOTU.
