We are dealing with inflation that was artificially subdued for over a decade. We need this correction, even if the combination of it along with supply issues stemming from the pandemic is going to kick us in the teeth for a while. It WILL stabilize, in the short to mid 2-5 years. Yup, i'm good with all of the above. But go ahead and keep running around like a headless chicken if you want to panic. Ohhhh, right. So by "it should stabilize soon" you meant in possibly 2 to 5 years. And by "hamburgers will go up .50" you meant...? Just admit it, you were completely and totally wrong and it only took right at 2 months for you to look like a complete moron.

Soon isn't next week or next month, we are talking about the global economy FFS, its a tanker not a speedboat. So, should be 2 years but nobody would be surprised if the pandemic causes issues that prolong it. Yes, "hamburgers will go up 50 cents". I've got two friends that own breakfast/sandwich shops and that's exactly what they did, raised everything from 10cennts a coffee to 50 cents a sandwich to a dollar for lunch special. If they have to raise it another 50 cents well sue me, there are some other big factors here like raising of wages which are spiking,as they should. Have an aspirin, it will all be OK.

October 13, 20213 yr Just now, Kz! said: Will do. Keep googling big words so your transparent retardation isn't too obvious! The average economic cycle in the US lasts about 5 years. We've been dodging the inflation cycle for 12. The spike has been drastic but what is supposed to happen is that after the correction (two years?) then we just have regular inflation for the rest of the cycle. Now this is all brutally oversimplified and there are obviously some major caveats going on with the pandemic but that's the gist of it, mmkay?

October 13, 20213 yr They're reviewing rule changes with safety in mind. When I was reading up I found this: https://www.ttnews.com/articles/usdot-begins-undoing-trump-era-restrictions-rulemaking USDOT Begins Undoing Trump-Era Restrictions on Rulemaking Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and his agency have taken the first step in undoing the previous administration’s restrictions. The U.S. Department of Transportation has begun the process of undoing a set of Trump-era regulations that ground agency work with industry to a halt and threatened to slow adoption of major policy goals of the Biden administration. DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg acted because the regulations imposed in 2019 at the department "would hamstring the department’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to the challenges we face as a nation,” the agency said in an emailed statement. The agency on March 24 repealed a 2019 regulation on rulemaking, the first step in undoing the previous administration’s restrictions. "The department is now working to revise and eliminate additional limitations” on how it can function as it tries to address the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and other major issues, the DOT said. "The department is also reviewing its internal policies and procedures to ensure that they are consistent with the administration’s objectives and priorities relating to the administrative process,” it said. A major federal rulemaking that went into effect in 2020 had to do with truck drivers’ hours of service. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s final rule on HOS, which took effect Sept. 29, included four revisions designed to give truck drivers more flexibility. Other trucking-related regulatory measures that may face review under the Biden administration include FMCSA’s proposed pilot program that would evaluate two options for drivers to divide their required 10 hours off duty in the sleeper berth and a proposed regulation that would allow truckers who cannot meet certain federal vision standards in one eye to be qualified to operate a truck in interstate commerce. The DOT was one of the few federal agencies that enacted President Donald Trump’s policies restricting enactment of new regulations into federal law, Bloomberg reported on March 22. The so-called "rule on rules” had frustrated the aviation industry because it halted government technical guidance and created hurdles to major department initiatives. In dozens of cases, once-routine guidance to industry from the Federal Aviation Administration on technically complex issues such as ground stations that control drone flights and battery safety had been put on hold, in some cases for years, according to public records, a trade group and multiple people familiar with its impacts. The DOT under Secretary Elaine Chao, following the policies Trump laid out in a series of executive orders, had imposed new restrictions on guidance documents, such as legal reviews and cost estimates. The result was that most of the work had ground to a halt, according to the records. The law also added other hurdles to enacting major regulations, including the potential for public hearings. Steven Bradbury, the former DOT general counsel who helped craft the rules that were repealed, said they were intended to spare industry from additional costs and to ensure they met legal requirements. He was unaware that they had led to lengthy delays, he said. The General Aviation Manufacturers Association applauded the latest action by DOT, saying that the rules had caused unintended consequences.

If you really want to see core inflation jump follow this advice. Core inflation is down. What's jumping in price is specifically goods produced domestically: energy, food. Which is the meat and potatoes of goods, but they're rising because suppliers are having to pay more for labor and shipping for these goods.

It doesn't have to be voluntary.

Aside from that. I know of one container that was opened. Everything was rotted and infected with insects she'd never seen. Closed it back up and called an exterminator. Never did find out if customs got involved though.

October 20, 20213 yr A worker in Florida applied to 60 entry-level jobs in September and got one interview https://www.businessinsider.com/worker-applied-to-60-jobs-got-one-interview-labor-shortage-2021-10 Quote On September 1, he sent job applications to a pair of restaurants that had been particularly public about their staffing challenges. Then, he widened the test and spent the remainder of the month applying to jobs — mostly at employers vocal about a lack of workers — and tracking his journey in a spreadsheet. Two weeks and 28 applications later, he had just nine email responses, one follow-up phone call, and one interview with a construction company that advertised a full-time job focused on site cleanup paying $10 an hour. But Holz said the construction company instead tried to offer Florida's minimum wage of $8.65 to start, even though the wage was scheduled to increase to $10 an hour on September 30. He added that it wanted full-time availability, while scheduling only part time until Holz gained seniority. Holz said he wasn't applying for any roles he didn't qualify for. Some places paying bonuses to hire, others still using bait and switch.
