This just further proves your ignorance and inability to understand the problem.  The program segregates not because of intelligence, but because of privilege.  The Asian and white kids that have access to private tutors and other educational opportunities will have an advantage to get into gifted programs over the lower income minorities and this creates a racial segregation.  It happens on almost every public school system n the country.   NYC recognizes This problem and wants to end the program so that Every student is afforded equal opportunity and you have a problem with that?  You’re almost Kkz dumb!

Again you missed it entirely.  White, brown, Asian, doesn’t matter, the point is that the program itself segregates based on the privilege that these families may have and the state decided to end it so that everyone regardless of race, income, etc is on the same playing field, thus ending the segregation, but you’re calling that racist.  Im calling it the opposite.  
 

btw this happens in the district my wife teaches in and the schools my kids go to.  My kids would make the gifted program easily, based on testing, but be sent to a "city” school because the school gets extra funding, and then their numbers for testing are better and thus the funding is better.  But this "gifted” school is not a better education, it’s a joke. It’s almost entirely a ploy to get funding and make the city families feel better because their school has the gifted program.

The only way your kids qualify as gifted is if your wife made a withdrawal at the sperm bank. I mean, I am "taking” to a guy who was a teacher after all. And yes, making any kids dumb themselves down for the sake of "equity” is a dumb proposition. The reason I’m laughing in the face of people who can afford a private education is not because of their race or status, it’s because of their perception that they think they’re getting a better education when actually they’re not.  The entire premise of eliminating the gifted program in nyc is to eliminate the segregation that happens because of privilege (not skin color) but you can’t seem to grasp that concept.

The gifted program wasn't "racist". 

It allowed parents of means and motivation to prepare their children better for the standardized test. 

I can see where that could certainly lead to outcomes where less prepared students (who I suppose proponents of the now cancelled program allege are disproportionately non-whites minus asians) would be at a disadvantage in testing into the program. Though I also would note that this program continues through 3rd grade so it's not like a one and done thing.

I have no idea what the gifted test looks like for a 5 year old. But if you want to make it fair it should probably be an age-adjusted IQ test. For that age, IIRC from when I was tested 40ish years ago, there's a lot of pattern recognition stuff. How quickly I could take geometric shapes and replicate a particular pattern, which set of patterns would be reproducible from the same set of shapes, that sort of thing.

IQ is not solely determinant of potential. But it's by far the most correlated with intelligence and academic aptitude. And there are few top level engineers, CEOs, or even C-level executives who wouldn't score very high on an IQ test.

For those of you who don't like that .... Sorry that's just the truth. That doesn't mean people of more average intelligence cannot achieve success or that morons with no scruples can't bumble their way into a fortune. But broadly speaking there is no better way to predict a pre-adolescent's potential in school and in life than an IQ test. Pointing out that there can be exceptions to the rule doesn't change the overwhelming evidence in support of IQ as a strong indicator.

No, it’s not a problem. Stupid kids should be segregated from smart kids. They are not equal.
