It would be churlish to suggest that Hurts hasn't improved beyond measure since last year. His passing, his confidence, his decision making - all have skyrocketed. You need to have patience when rolling with a rookie or an inexperienced QB. Bide your time, and let them show you. I have absolute faith in Jalen. You can see how hard he has worked and how much he has improved. Just look at his deep passes against WAS. Just look at how few times he took off and ran instead of reading his progressions and keeping his eyes downfield. He's a stud, and I hope he continues in this vein.

Before anyone responds with the lack of second half points, bear in mind we didn't need them. Against Minny and the LOLanders, we were well set by half time, allowing for game management rather than aggression. That's not on him.

And we got better and better as the season went along. This feels very much like 2017. Not saying we're going all the way but the biggest difference I see is our difference has the ability to absolutely take over games unlike 2017.

We don’t know how this will play out, but we should be pretty happy with our results so far. With that being the case I kind of feel like this narrative that this schedule is soft, but are these wins all that bad? The Lions has played in three tough games and winning one of them. The Vikings beat the Packers. The Commanders beat the Jags who ran through the Chargers. Perhaps this schedule isn’t as bad as we think.

Game management when you have a sizable lead should be accomplished with the running game, unfortunately our running game hasn't been able to keep the chains moving and the clock running.

That is actually not really true.

Against MInnesota, the Eagles had 4 second half possessions - an 11 play drive, a 9 play drive, a 7 play drive and a 2 play drive that ended with that fluky interception.  They possessed the ball for over 12 minutes in the third period when the game was still not decided.

Against Washington, the Eagles had 6 second half possessions - two 7 play drives, two 6 play drives, a 4 play drive and a fluky 1 play drive that ended with a fluky safety.

So not a single three-and-out in 10 second half possessions - so two weird drive ends that were not the running game's fault, and they averaged over 7 plays a drive on the rest of the drives.

So they actually have kept the chains moving and the clock running, and won those games by 17 and 16 points.  What they have not done in those second halfs is score.  They just have not needed to.  Yes, it would be nice to add some scores when leading and put games away, but this is a very mild concern, not a serious one.

Hurts has no accuracy, a weak arm and can't see the field.  I'd trade him by the deadline if anyone wanted him.   Love to get a 4, I'd take a 5 to get him out of town.  Time to move all older players that have any trade value and start over.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This thread came right around the time the Eagles went on the run. Still can't admit he made a mistake. Still too hung up on his love for his god.

What about the 4th period drives and TOP.  Also, on the drives mentioned above, how many were running plays?

See, I don't need to see the numbers, I know they're having issues closing out games with the run, it isn't anything new, we don't have backs fit for the job.

I know you beanbaggers can’t stand him, but imma throw another nugget out there about the Eagles starting quarterback.

"He doesn’t leave the building,” Steichen said. "Like, this guy’s here all day, every day. All he cares about is football, and when all you care about is football you’re going to be successful, and that’s what he does. It’s all he thinks about. He never takes days off. He’s always working.

"He doesn’t stop. He doesn’t stop. He’s relentless in everything he does, and it’s showing up. It’s showing up. And when you work like that good things are going to happen.”

Hurts is the only quarterback in the NFL who’s passed for 300 yards per game, completed at least 67 percent of his passes and thrown one or fewer interceptions.

He’s only the 16th in NFL history to put up those numbers three weeks into a season.

That list also includes guys like Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Drew Brees – and Donovan McNabb in 2004.”

What’s up with this guy? Why isn’t he out there shooting ducks in a pond in Jersey with Mike Trout or something??? 😂🤣😂

Joe Montana once said that he knew he couldn't touch Marino or Elway as a talent, so he had to outwork them.

Hurts' hard work and commitment is the biggest reason for his success so far. He is no where near the natural talent as some of his peers, yet he has started outplaying them.

Talent is nothing without the right work ethic.

Very true. The Eagles for once had the guy who works above and beyond and these idiots around here want to give it away for Minshew. 🙄

Also had a summer full of people genuinely pushing for Carson Strong. As of any more evidence was needed that you've crossed the point of sanity to go all in on your agenda against a player.

And if you didn't have the board on ignore after being owned so many times over your opinions, you would know that it was a joke.

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."

Kind of ironic that the OP used to get all over a former poster and his love of Derek Carr that always went back to "arm talent," much to our entertainment. "Arm talent" itself became a punchline in ATNFL. Here you have the same guy joining other posters in going hard against Hurts for not having elite "arm talent" and selling him short from the beginning. It really is like some people just have an agenda.

Just goes to show that certain people shouldn't at all have their football opinion here taken seriously.

Dunning-Kruger football fans make up a sizable portion of this board population. A few learn their lesson, but many never do.

It's actually really easy to not look like a fool in these situations by just communicating your initial impressions as tentative and not selling yourself really hard in either direction that a guy "sucks" or is a "savior." JFC, just give a young player, especially a QB, a couple of seasons as a starter to prove themselves and try to account for how some of their personal traits and the environmental factors surrounding them might affect the trajectory of their development. But too many people are too caught up in showing how "smart" they are from the outset in acting like evidence is superfluous, that they just know what a player can be before they even step on the field, as if they are a prophet who can divine the unknown directly from the football gods themselves. This comes from a place of hubris, and then when faced with evidence to the contrary, that excessive pride forces them to double down, downplay, or deflect from their previous statements in order to save face, but they end up just looking even more foolish. It's a vicious cycle.

Now it’s a joke about Strong. Yeah they were begging for the Eagles to draft, sign, and play this dude for months, but they were just joking. 😂🤣😂🥱🥱🥱

Hence why many of the same people who say Hurts sucks, are still some of the same people who have been defending Wentz for sucking for sometime now. Funny thing is these guys swear they’re the smartest people on TATE.😂🤣😂

Last year, due to Covid protocols, Hurts had no OTA's, had a new HC, OC and offensive system, a very inexperienced WR group, and didn't play any preseason games.  I thought he shouldn't have been playing at all....he should have sat and learned.

BUT.......very few knew of the work ethic this kid had, I know I didn't......his level headed approach to the game, his personal confidence.   As the year went on, he displayed a ton of areas he needed to get better at, and  he slowly did get better......anybody who couldn't see how he was developing just doesn't know what they're looking at.

But when the year ended, the big question of what is his ceiling and whether or not he could develop those areas of his game to be an efficient, productive NFL QB.

With the way he works and his approach to the game, he inspires confidence around him and has the perfect persona of a leader.

He has the physical tools........and all the intangible qualities of a "franchise QB"......a term I hate, but gets throw around here as some description of a desired QB,.

What he needed was experience and time to develop......and he's progressing really well.  But he's still a work in progress......and he's going to have some bad games.  And I'm sure all the doubters will have their day.  But QB development is not a straight line ascension......and bad games are great lessons to learn from......and I'm sure that's how Hurts looks at games like that.

Right now, any ceiling that anybody predicted for this kid is not visible right now.....

Hurts will be benched before the season is over.

For a meaningless week 18 game after they lock up the 1 seed.
