December 27, 20214 yr Author The outcome of the games played this week so far has moved the pick from Miami down to 14, our own to 19, and the pick from Indy to 23. Tonight's game (Dolphins at Saints) has an opportunity to impact the Miami pick ... if NO wins, that would push Miami's pick up to 11. A Dolphins win would push it down to 16. Position as of now: 14 - from Miami 19 - our own 23 - from Indy Will update first post at the conclusion of tonight's game.

If Miami wins, it’s helps the Eagles playoff chances by knocking out NO. If NO wins, it gives the Eagles a better pick. On the other hand, if the Eagles just win out, none of this matters. It’s just so tough rooting for NO.
December 28, 20214 yr Author Miami's win last night actually place them in the 7th seed currently ... after a 1-7 start, if the season ended today they'd be in the playoffs. That's pretty incredible. So current draft positioning at the conclusion of week 16: 19 - from Miami 20 - our own 23 - from Indy First post updated.

I think at this pt should def package one for next yr if there's a willing trade partner

Trade down to a high 2nd and get their 2023 1st in the process.

A really bad team like Detroit or Houston is unlikely to do that deal because they will expect that 2023 pick next year to be very high again - top 5 / top 10. Lions for example would rather give up the Rams pick and a 2nd next year. So you probably need to do multiple trades which net you a couple of 2nds next year to get the approx value of a mid/late 1st Your other bet is to have a good team looking for a long term successor, or a middling desperate team with GM/coach jobs on the line such as the Bears looking for the saviour. But I don’t know if 19 is high enough to entice someone to give up a 1st next year and all those teams are picking infront us anyway so would have already passed on the QB only a few picks before.
January 3, 20224 yr Author Results of yesterday's games moved the pick from Miami from 19 up to 14, our own remains unchanged (19), and the pick from Indy moves from 23 up to 21. Tonight's game can impact that pick from Miami ... if the Browns win that will push their pick down to 15 and Miami's up to 13 ... so go Cleveland! I'll update post #1 at the conclusion of tonight's game.
January 3, 20224 yr After week 9, the 3 teams were a combined 7-17. All 3 had top 10 picks. since then we’ve gone 19-5. That’s bonkers

January 4, 20224 yr Author Last night's game had no further impact on (current) projected draft order. The pick from Miami remains at 14, our pick is at 19, and the pick from Indy at 21. First post updated.

From my simplistic look, if the Dolphins lose, we would also be rooting for the Broncos, Vikings, Falcons and Browns to win, but unfortunately they are all playing contenders, apart from the Vikings who can hopefully beat the Bears.

Honestly there’s generally not a whole lot of difference in the quality of player you get from like picks 12-20 so not sure how much it really matters

If Miami loses, that puts them at 8-9 on the season. So looking at the teams that are currently 7-9 where if they win it would bump them down past Miami. That would include all the teams you mentioned except Atlanta (the Falcons would still pick ahead of Miami due to SOS). Cleveland is playing Cincinnati who does have something to play for ... they are trying to both fend off Buffalo from leapfrogging them and also a W coupled with a KC loss would move them up to the 2 seed (since they hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over KC after beating them recently). Denver is playing KC (see above). Minny is playing the Bears who really have nothing to play for. So it seems the highest pick possible from Miami is 11 if all goes well with those 3 games.

Big example - the Smith trade got us from 12-10 to get a clear cut blue chip talent.

We don’t really have many eagles picks in the late teens in recent memory. Maclin was 19th, but that’s about all I can think of. If we want to go back further (I know, before Howie) they got Shawn Andrews at 16 which would have been great if he didn’t develop the mental issues.

I was only trying to highlight how big a difference there is in Howie’s drafting profile between players taken 10-15 vs those taken 10 slots later (20-25). Obviously the earlier the pick the better the odds are of the player being a good pick but Howie has zero hits in the latter group.

We just don’t have much data to go on when it comes to picking in the late teens, which is where the Miami pick is likely to fall.

They’re at 14 now and have a tough game to end the season - they play NE. A loss could move them up as far as 11 depending on what happens in the Cleveland, Denver, and Minny games.

Doubt Cleveland beats Bengals with Mayfield out now or Denver beating Chiefs if seeding is still live for Chiefs. So let’s say 13 is highest. What’s the lowest it can go if they beat the Pats?
January 5, 20224 yr Looking at the details of what we'd need to get that Miami pick to #11, I don't see it happening. For those that haven't seen it in the Draft forum: Basically the only way the Miami pick can get up to #11 would be MIA L + DEN W + MIN W + CLE W + one of the following: * 0-3 by NYG/BAL/LV OR * 1-2 or worse by NYG/BAL/LV + 1-2 or better by JAX/DET/NYJ OR * 2-1 or worse by NYG/BAL/LV + 2-1 or better by JAX/DET/NYJ OR * 3-0 or worse by NYG/BAL/LV + 3-0 by JAX/DET/NYJ (zero chance in hell of this happening) On the other end, the lowest the pick can fall is #16 (Miami win + New Orleans loss)
