Let’s hope it never comes down to that scenario. If I were a betting man in Vegas, I’d put money on Trump siding with his buddy Putin and blaming whichever country was attacked. He’s been an asset since he won with the assistance of Russia in 2016.

On first reporting, I thought that it could have been Ukrainian EW that made them drift off track (Ukrainian EW is moderately effective against the Shahed/Geran platform). Went to the depths of the Polish NatSec twitter sphere and found some commentary on their tracks and intercept locations. More or less they weren't jammed, they were flying their programmed route. (Jammed drones don't fly the way they did.)

So either Russia did this to: a) get around Ukrainian air defenses, b: probe NATO defenses, or c: both.

For the US this is more or less the geopolitical equipment of being in a bar and seeing a guy slap your friend's wife a**. You and all your friends should kick his a**, but if the husband isn't willing your hands are kinda tied. And the guy has a habit of forcing himself on everyone before, so you really should kick his a**, but for whatever reason nobody wants to get in a bar fight, even though the odds are in your favor.

Also I'm kinda surprised this is actually making as big of a story as it is. Russian cruise missles/drones have been falling into Poland since '22. Western leaders have just done the whole lame de-escalation thing and haven't done anything about it, at least publicly.

To follow up, this would be the absolute PERFECT opportunity for NATO to get the skies safe by establishing an ADIZ 150km into Ukraine and anything hostile that comes into it gets engaged by NATO air defenses/aircraft. Would cover Lviv.

Of course, we won't do it, but it would be perfect, would work, and Russia wouldn't do D about it.
