The problem with instituting a no fly zone is that it's not needed at this point, since Russia can't get any aircraft to penetrate into Ukrainian controlled territory, it wouldn't stop further attacks because they'd likely be launched from strategic bombers in Russian airspace, and the fact that it would lead to direct confrontation anyway. On the last point, no fly zones have to be enforced, so when a Russian aircraft breaks the rules you have to shoot it down, or if a SAM site starts shooting, you have to destroy it. So there's going to be shooting in a no fly zone anyway. Can't get away from it. 

 

Realistically all this is a moot point because I don't think Russia will use any WMD. It won't change anything tactically or strategically for Russia, and they risk additional NATO involvement. Russia will throw numbers at the problem, and they will lose because the people calling those shots aren't military. Numbers mean nothing when you don't have training or equipment. 

Setting off a nuke would likely send the entire global economy into absolute panic. And then what happens to supply chains? Markets probably crash, a good number of people might flee cities. It has the potential to cause absolute chaos.

Militarily it wouldn’t change much, but a tactical nuke could absolutely have massive strategic consequences.

Well, it wasn’t my scenario, but the question is if they used "a nuke.” So now you’ve escalated a single use of a nuke by Russia on Ukraine to all out thermonuclear war, and we’re all dead.

I don’t think Ukraine is worth it, frankly.the USSR was far worse than current Russia and we didn’t bother getting into a nuke fight back then when they controlled Ukraine, so why now?

If we "wipe Russia off the map” — which is what TJ said — Russia will with 100% absolute certainty nuke us to oblivion in retaliation. You can’t just level a country with 7000 nukes and expect them to eat it without retaliation.
