Bakhmut looks brutal and pointless.

Highly defensible position of mediocre strategic value which Ukraine is holding, and what does Russia do? Send waves and waves of its mobiks to be slaughtered in an attempt to wear down weaponry, infantry, and supplies of the AFU.

Maybe the Russians are going for Leningrad in reverse.

I wonder how many Ukrainians died for Leningrad..

It's almost as if I was talking to Dad about the war last night and he also said "The Ukraine".  Which spurred my memory and had me hit google to confirm that it wasn't just a family thing.

Got big date night planned at Applebees this weekend?  Or do you still have that "in" at pizza hut you use to famously brag about?

It's not just a family thing.  A lot of people still call it that,  but shouldn't.  If you're on their side.

are we seriously watching an internet argument over, the ukraine vs ukraine ?

Sorry.  Any chance I get to point out his inbred NEPAn ignorance I HAVE to take it.  Sadly his "education" was our tax dollars.

A lot of people say things wrong.  It's not traditional unless you are Russian.

Your phony fake ties to Ukraine don't make you an expert.  You couldn't be more wrong here.

What a Fing fool you are Mr. Phony Paco.

U.S. President Barack Obama stood at a local elementary school in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday to tout his new budget proposal. But after his opening remarks, the first question was inevitably about foreign affairs. In response to a reporter who asked about Russia’s Vladimir Putin, Obama eventually said this: "It is important that Congress stand with us. I don’t doubt the bipartisan concern that’s been expressed about the situation in the Ukraine.”

It’s likely that any Ukrainian Americans tuned to C-SPAN at that particular moment cringed, not at the prospect of the country’s salvation coming from Congress’s bipartisan expressions — unsettling though that thought may be — but from three little letters: the.

"Ukraine is a country,” says William Taylor, who served as the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine from 2006 to 2009. "The Ukraine is the way the Russians referred to that part of the country during Soviet times … Now that it is a country, a nation, and a recognized state, it is just Ukraine. And it is incorrect to refer to the Ukraine, even though a lot of people do it.”

Cool, now look up what the word traditionally means.  I was very careful with my words.  Knowing you arn't smart enough to get out of NEPA I even tried to help you and said "Less common these days but still used"

Oh ok gotcha. Good thing you used his middle name to further emphasize he's not Ukrainian. I was a bit unsure until then.

Grandparents on my dad's side were Ukrainian. They used "the Ukraine" all the time

Granted they also thought unseasoned boiled cabbage was a good side dish so take that with a grain of salt.

"The Ukraine" because it was the borderlands between the Poles and some other country. Who was that other country....oh, yea

Russia.
