Here's the truly hysterical part -- the current situation is ideal for the US. Russia's military is engaged and has been seriously degraded to the point that they have to bring in foreign troops. We a

Look, now's not the time to start horsing around, okay? These half-measured sanctions are pretty much like closing the barn door after the horse has left. My mane point is, if Putin wants to stirrup trouble, we should stop stall-ing and just saddle Russia with the weight of a stronger response

Yeah but it sure would be nice for a politician to stand up for what's right without consideration or concern for reelection. Idealistic, I know.

They tell themselves things like "Well to get real change that will help people, we have to win first"

Here's how to checkmate Putin - chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov

1. Support Ukraine militarily, 2. Bankrupt Putin's war machine, 3. Freeze & seize Russia's finances, 4. Kick Russia out of every financial institution.

I saw an MP on Fox last night who was saying if you make it a no fly zone we'll handle things on the ground. I guess you never count out a man or woman defending their home.

You're not really from here, are you?

It seems like this really was 3D chess by Putin. He used social media and interference in our democratic processes to sow discord, so much so you have republicans echoing Kremlin talking points. As you pointed out he took advantage of Europe's energy dependence. He waited for the right time, strategically positioned his pieces and

He's helped turn the right into protectionist doves and the left is obviously never going to have the nuts to pull America into war by itself.  So yeah, this is his plan and it must be shocking even to him that it ended with Fox news sucking his wang and the nation in the hands of a "compromise POTUS" as weak as Biden.

However, even then, this seems like a desperate and horrible move by Putin.  Invading is the easy part.  Holding Ukraine which will be funded and trained by proxy war is a whole nother animal.  as body bags start coming back to Russia and the impossibility of holding it forever become clear, he has pretty much signed his own death warrant.  He has no allies or friends in this, only China that basically said "go deep" but isn't in coordination with him.

It's going to bloody and tragic, but this is a big opportunity for the west to finally rid themselves of this menace.

I talked about this yesterday. How do you argue against that?

Thought I laid it on pretty thick, guys. Le sigh.

No doubt that the entire country has gone soft.  But setting that aside, there is no will among the American people to defend Ukraine, nor should there be.  Ukraine is not an American ally nor are we bound to defend the country by treaty.  That doesn't mean severe punitive measures against Russia should not be taken - primarily for deterrence against future action by bad actors such as Russia, Iran and China.

Yes, there should be.  We should be united against the spread of fascism.  Unfortunately, the right's hoping it comes to our shores and the left is too soft.

How about it's none of his damned business.

Technically we kind of are. When we convinced them to give up their nukes we assured Ukraine of their sovereignty and security.

While it doesn't bind us to protect them militarily, it's not a great look for us.

Actually, it is since it was a NATO meeting and we give a ton of money towards defense. Don't say you want to be protected from Russia and give them tons of money for their gas and oil.

Okay, Vitali Klitschko says he's going to fight for Ukraine if necessary.  This whole thing can be remedied quickly if Putin sends Russia's best champion, Donald Trump -- and it's all decided in a Klitschko-Trump 15 round heavyweight match.

He was roundly mocked by both Democrats and Republicans for saying Putin was a geopolitical threat and should be taken seriously. Turns out he was right and they were wrong. Not sure how that makes him a p***y in your mind.

He's not going to annex Ukraine, other than the Russian speaking parts. He's going to reinstall the ex president who is loyal to him. I don't think there will be an insurgency. Ukrainians will just have to get used to giving up western style democracy and the rights that come with it.

Then stop sending money to NATO. Let Europe take care of it's own business both economically and militarily.

Why does Germany need to be protected from Russia when they are business partners? This isn't 1942.
