That's beyond such a weird think to care about

Quote

-Elections were not "canceled," they are postponed under martial law, as set out in Ukraine's constitution. Ukrainians do want elections, but only once a peace can be guaranteed with security assurances that will deter Russia from attacking again. Why are such security guarantees necessary? Because there are millions of Ukrainians living under Russian occupation, millions more who've been displaced, a million or so military – and all these people would need to be granted the chance to freely vote, which cannot happen under the Russian gun. Moreover, Ukrainians overwhelmingly support Zelensky and none of them are questioning his legitimacy. There are two countries who are questioning his legitimacy: Russia and the US.

-Ukraine's political opposition is not silent; they criticize Zelensky even in wartime. There is still a healthy political discourse and competition in the country.

-Churches are not being shutdown as she mentions; the Moscow-run arm of the Orthodox church which has a proven track record of operating as branch of the FSB has been barred from practicing.

-"Total government control of the media"? Hardly. Independent news outlets are plentiful in Ukraine, and they report critically on the president and the military; many focus on exposing corruption.

-Gabbard also asks what Ukrainians are fighting for and whether they actually value freedom. Ukrainians are engaged in an existential fight. They are fighting and dying for freedom and independence – and they have done so since Russia first invaded in 2014. Ukrainians also led two revolutions – the Orange and Euromaidan/Revolution of Dignity – over corruption, state violence, political repression. The latter saw more than 100 pro-democracy protesters killed on Kyiv's main square, aptly named Independence Square. If there is anyone right now in the world who understands what freedom means and what it costs, its the Ukrainians.

After blunting the initial German offensive in 1941, Operation Barbarossa, and the subsequent entry of the United States into the conflict, the Soviet Union became part of the Allied powers.

US - Soviet Alliance - 1941-1945

Although relations between the Soviet Union and the United States had been strained in the years before World War II, the U.S.-Soviet alliance of 1941–1945 was marked by a great degree of cooperation and was essential to securing the defeat of NSDAP Germany. Without the remarkable efforts of the Soviet Union on the Eastern Front, the United States and Great Britain would have been hard pressed to score a decisive military victory over NSDAP Germany.

...The defeat of NSDAP Germany was a joint endeavor that could not have been accomplished without close cooperation and shared sacrifices. Militarily, the Soviets fought valiantly and suffered staggering casualties on the Eastern Front. When Great Britain and the United States finally invaded northern France in 1944, the Allies were finally able to drain NSDAP Germany of its strength on two fronts. Finally, two devastating atomic bomb attacks against Japan by the United States, coupled with the Soviets’ decision to break their neutrality pact with Japan by invading Manchuria, finally led to the end of the war in the Pacific.

Both the Europe/U.S. and Russia became allies during WWII.  Russia even broke their neutrality pact with Japan and invaded Manchuria - helping with the war in the Pacific.  So yes, they did "come to the aid" of Europe and the West during WWII.  Likewise, Europe and the U.S. helped Russia.

The only reason they came to the aid was they wanted the nuclear scientists before we could get to them.

Yes, they became allies after the Germans invaded Russia. Not disputing that. Yes, them fighting off the Germans with the aid/help coming from the US helped in defeating the Axis powers. All true.

The way you used it in your statement implied that the Russians came to the aid of Europe/West instead of vice versa. The Russians wouldn’t have been able to aid anything if the western allies (mainly the US) wouldn’t have given them equipment and materials to outlast the Germans and turn the tide.

I stated that they helped each other.  That doesn't mean that "Russia did not help Europe/US" in WWII.  Anyway,, we're getting into semantics now.  I understand your point - I hope you understand mine.

Yeah, we got them to back off by making them think we were going to F them up. The Soviets blinked first and capitulated without us asking them to come to the table.  You negotiate with them by not negotiating and just doing a Commando style suit up montage in front of them until they get the message.

Actually no.  There were negotiations, but they were secret so the American public was in the dark about what JFK gave up.  However, the American public thought the Soviets backed down because JFK was such a badass.  Lol

Good thing the administration stopped cyber intelligence against Russia. We have nothing to worry about. The Soviets have both feet in the door anyway with some of their "sleeper agents” now working in high ranking positions in the US.

So you focus on the "link" and not the actual photo in the link.  Par for the course for leftists.

I'm not sure how Zelensky gets himself out of this. If he stays stubborn the meatgrinder goes on. If he comes back hat in hand he looks weak to his war weary constituents. He's really painted himself into a corner.
