May 18May 18 That back nine from Rai yesterday was just incredible. The most dialed in I’ve seen a player in a high stakes situation in a while. Great story, no one has had anything bad to say about that guy.
May 19May 19 I thought the layout was great and the course pretty much shut up the naysayers over the first two days. The pin placements were super tough before the cut, but I kind of preferred that to really help sort the field before the weekend.Rai seems like an all around stand up guy. McIlroy continues to be softer than baby ish.

A look at the leaderboard at the end of tourney showed that the course and setup brought many of the best players to the very top which is exactly what you want in a major.

It shows it's possible to keep these classic old courses relevant. Let the players whinge, it's the same for everyone. Got tickets for our Open next month as Royal Birkdale is local to us.Hoping for dry weather with a sporting breeze to test the field.

It was the same crap that time around on an even shorter course than Aronimink and standing at only 6996 yards. It was very wet that week and everyone thought the players would destroy that old setup but as Colin Montgomery said after the first two days "they forgot all about how tough the greens are at Merion". The result that year was the same with some big names on top of the Leaderboard by the end of the tourney and with the winning score at +1. The pivotal hole was the par-3 13th hole measuring all of 115 yards. Michelson made a bad club choice and flew the green by about 2ft and ended up with a bogey giving Rose the cushion he needed to go on and win his only major. Golf isn't only about 300+ yard bombs. At least it shouldn't be that way.Let's hope Birkdale makes a good showing. It has certainly done a good job in past Open Championships and I suspect it will be great again this year. I managed to go to a major once and that was way back in 1981 at the US Open (again at Merion which btw will host again in 2030). Hope you have a great day and a great time!

We are lucky in our part of the world, Lancashire is referred to as England's golf Coast. We have 3 Open venues within maybe 25 miles and some fantastic backing courses.Scotland is golfing heaven but we're well served down here.I'll try to get some pics up from the visit.

June 18Jun 18 We have a lot of raised greens and also different plateaus on my home course. No longer as much fun as I’ve lost elevation on my base shots. I would think the wind is what could give the pros some real trouble as they’ll tend to need to come in higher with the raised greens.
June 18Jun 18 I checked out a couple vids of #11. I didn't realize how small the green is on that hole. Treacherous.

June 19Jun 19 They totally neutered this course, especially for the afternoon group yesterday which allowed Wyndham to go low. To his credit he’s made some unreal putts, but this is playing as a glorified TPC course. Can’t have -7 leading a US Open after Friday.
June 19Jun 19 No doubt they were being cautious with the wind yesterday and the critic from Aronimink. Expert the pins to be tough over the weekend.

Only two rounds under par today

It was clear the setup would be far tougher after the relative low scores the first two rounds. Expect more of the same today.
