Rewarding a great player.  Can live with six million in dead money spread over two seasons with a 2024 post June 1 retirement.  This sort of move makes the Eagles attractive to players.

Kelce IS an all-time great Eagles player.  But, its not $6M spread over 2 seasons, starting with 2024 post-June 1 retirement.   First, we don't know that he's going to come back for 2022.  It looks like he might, but he might not.  Then he is a $10.5M dead cap hit spread over 2 seasons with the post-June 1 retirement.

I don't think anyone here wanted big splashes, we all see they are rebuilding. But rebuilding means adding quality younger players to build upon. They added one. This defense flat out stinks. They need so much on that side of  the ball alone. Doing nothing is not making it better. I don't understand the building process they are attempting here.

I am willing to wait until the after the draft to see what their strategy seemed to be and what they have accomplished.

I find it funny how we are criticizing this FO (lost respect in the league, not nearly good as other FOs horrible drafting etc) while we are also discussing how teams are poaching personnel from us.

He also rolls money over each season - in the NFL you don't lose cap money you don't use (unlike other sports leagues), you can roll it over into future years.

So Howie creates optionality by moving cap hit forward, then if he can't find a good use for that money in the current season, he rolls it forward, negating some of that future cap hit.

This provides the flexibility to make "win now" moves if they're competitive, or to eat cap room in a bad season and move out players.

Yeah... if only that were true.  Eagles have the LEAST flexible cap for this offseason (aka, less optionality), AND... leads the league in dead money for 2023 already!  That dead money in 2023 will limit future optionality.

I think we can all agree that Howie really messed up while trying to keep the window open for another championship.  He made bad decisions with 3rd contracts and extensions.  We are still feeling the impact.

That said, I think Howie is a decent team builder.

And, like he learned a few things during the time he was replaced by Chip, I think he has learned from the dark years of the draft ('17 - '20).

Can he screw this up....sure.  But I don't expect him to.

There's a reason that the Eagles have the most DEAD CAP SPACE in the entire league and the LEAST FLEXIBILITY.  Nothing superficial about that brother.  Simple economic concept for you.

Jimmy, Joey and Johnny each are given $10 to spend.   Jimmy owes $2 to Sarah.  Joey owes $1 to Sally.  Johnny owes $0 to anyone.

Jimmy, Joey and Johnny all want the same toy at the auction.   Jimmy bids $8.  Joey bids $9.  Johnny bids $10.   Johnny wins the bid and gets the toy.

Now, do you want to discuss the fact that the reason Jimmy owes $2 already is because he bought a broken toy that he was never able to play with, but thought he'd really like because in previous years, it was a really fun toy.  But, just isn't the same anymore.

You really are incapable of discussing something honestly without shifting your supposed point.  You were complaining about the structure of Kelce's contract.  Now you are pretending that the reason we missed on someone is because we literally couldn't afford it like your auction scenario, which is a presumption based on nothing.  So the reports were that we were in and very close on Marcus Williams.  So he got $14 million a year.  Let's say we matched that but had to beat Baltimore's offer.  Are you really suggesting that we literally couldn't have figured out a way to be able to afford $14.5 million instead of $14 million?

Your own scenario just illustrates your elementary school approach to middle school economics.  Jimmy in your scenario literally could not offer $10 - he could not afford it.  But that's not how the cap works in the NFL.  I trust even you would admit that additional money can always be found under the cap.  So when a team is bidding on a free agent, their ceiling is only their self-imposed limit on what they believe a player is worth.  The reason the Eagles didn't offer $14.5 million to Williams wasn't they couldn't afford it.  They didn't do it because that exceeded what they thought he was worth and stuck to their limit.

Saints or Falcons

Just get traded my heart can't take this anymore.

It's maybe moreso looking for an out on Jalen than getting Watson at this point. The worst case scenario was Hurts playing just good enough last year to leave the possibility that the Eagles keep giving him another year after year.

If he goes to the falcons I’m going laugh. That team might actually be worse than the Texans roster and future considering what they have to give up to get him with that roster as currently constructed. I’d be shocked if it weren’t the saints.

Am I glad that you explained this to me! All these years I thought there was more to it.

Kinda weird that he's choosing between his childhood, home town team and their biggest rival.

Keep forgetting about Seumalo

I’ve been of the belief since the day he was drafted that he wasn’t worth where he was getting drafted and I didn’t think he was all that. So I wouldn’t trade for him anyways. But the fact that he didn’t play very well last year, comes off like a pain in the bass and he’s coming off a bad injury that required surgery the value was already not great. Add on this situation, it’s plummeted even more.

Browns are likely going to be back to the QB situation they had prior to baker if they trade him. but a roster that’s better now then at that time so they aren’t going to be picking high enough to get the QB they truly covet.

Browns are in a tough spot with Mayfield.  Dorsey drafted him much higher than he should have gone, and he hasn't played well enough to earn a second contract.  He gives the ball away far too often -- 56 INT against 92 TD passes, to go along with 27 fumbles -- and he trusts his arm way too much to fit balls in where the throw shouldn't be made.

He was actually playing fairly well last season before he hurt his shoulder.  Then he decided to keep playing instead of getting surgery and his numbers crashed the rest of the year.  Looks like they'll have to let him play his 5th year and walk at the end of the season, with no compensation other than being out of his contract.

That's the risk of the draft.  I'm a believer in drafting and developing your own franchise QB, but the 2018 QB draft is a good illustration of the risks:

#1 Mayfield -- won't get a 2nd contract

#3 Sam Darnold -- mostly uninspired play and shipped off

#7 Josh Allen -- franchise player and MVP candidate

#10 Josh Rosen -- draft bust on his way out of the league

#32 Lamar Jackson -- franchise player, MVP winner (although I don't think he'll ever get the Ravens to the top)

If he is limited to warm climates and domes, Philly is pretty much out of it.  Bit diva for me.  Better go to a team that will win home field advantage through the playoffs because it doesn’t sound like he will fare well in Green Bay or Buffalo in the playoffs.

fishbowl market and media.  Once you're established you don't need nor want the aggravation.  Only exception is if you're a Super Bowl contender.

I do wonder about that aspect. Vick made it work but paid his debt to society and showed contrition. Not sure Watson can do the same legally speaking.

Haslem has a terrible reputation and got a meeting. I doubt Lurie was a problem for Watson.
