My guess is he’ll have an easier time reaching those incentives with Mahomes than he would have with Hurts.

Unfortunately more likely than not.  I go back to Roman Gabriel and in all that time since only McNabb would I consider a consistent top 10.  Randall had a year or two, maybe.  Foles had our greatest run, Wentz our greatest 3/4 of a season.  Other than that, it has mostly been dry toast at QB.

Or maybe he doesn't. Maybe he had guys identified as talents they'd be willing to break the bank on and those options are gone now so they pivoted to plan b. But Howie usually isn't a guy who loses out on option 1 and just calls it a day. If he wants a player at a position, he finds a way to get one.

He got Reddick who got some decent money. They didn't have a ton of cap space to begin with.  They made a run at Marcus Williams but came up short.  We will definitely see some more signings but they will be those mid-low tier players who won't cost much.

He doesn’t need to have something cooking every year.  Perhaps he realizes this team won’t be in contention for awhile and he needs to build the team the correct way.  It’s not the sexy way but it’s the correct way.
