not worth is either have him as a 1 year rental or what have to give him a new contract making what 20 million a year? better off just trying to draft another stud and see what happens

If Howie wasn't gearing up for a headline move before he certainly is now.  Sixers traded for Harden and Howie and Jeff wanted to go all in on Watson but he wanted no part of this organization and now the Phillies with their recent signings.

I pray Howie can stick to the process and stay course but this may have triggered his internal instinct to flash like the queen that he is.

I'd do that.  He only just turned 24.  He's a physical freak of nature likely hall of fame player if he stays healthy.  Perfect compliment to DeVonta.  Not into drafting a WR in the first but if you can get Metcalf for one of our firsts and a 3rd I think that is worth it.  Top 5 WR in the league that should only get better.

Seeing the Eagles moves of late, seems like we can sum up this offseason so far in one word - "continuity".  Team is bringing back most of its roster and coaching staff from last year.  If things continue along this track, there'll be a large rookie class as well.  Seems like the Eagles are in the second year of a three year rebuild.  All in all, not so bad considering rebuilds are usually associated with losing records.  We'll see how the team fares in 2022 and 2023

Yeah with the rest of the NFC in complete flux and the Eagles having the assets they have with the young offensive building blocks in place and still very young inexperienced coaching staff, continuity isn't going to hurt it's only going to help.  Still though we are days into FA and already landed a big fish that people are overlooking just because he wasn't on the radar.  This team is going to sign a number of new faces in the next 2-3 weeks and the team will add some major new young talent via the draft potentially unlike any other time we have seen as Eagles fans.  The team will be pretty different while maintaining a backbone of continuity.

A Mathieu signing would be much more inspiring though than McLeod, as much as I appreciate his place in Eagles history, simply because of us re-signing Harris after he did nothing this past season.

I’d be willing to bet someone gives you a 2nd for him. It’s a Qb driven league and seattle, colts and New Orleans need a QB. Plus he’s still young. If someone was willing to give up a first and a third for Carson Wentz after a horrific year then 2 3rds I am guessing somebody will give up a second round pick for him.

Actually yeah sorry you are right there bud! Both the Colts and Commaders took on Wentz with that contract.

I guess the Phillies plan is to give the bullpen a huge lead and hope they can hold on.

Of course you would.  Because you’re not smart.

One 1st and that’s it.  Nothing more.  Not for a WR when we have a RB as "QB1”.

Plus if you trade for him, you have to realise he’ll enter the last year of his rookie deal and will probably demand $ 20 million annually next offseason.

You could franchise tag him but with the absurd prices some receivers got in FA, that price has gone up too.

Nick talked about Ward as a leader in the WR room. Can they improve on him?  Absolutely.  But good value right now.

Scott is a cheap back up for on year.  I expect by the end of the year that he is the #4 RB but that draft choice I want is no guarantee, especially with Mr.Consensus’ tendency to just miss on his targets.

No doubt, Howie sucks at drafting RBs... and WRs... which is why those 2 are still here after all this time.  They should have been upgraded years ago, but Howie cant find better players and overvalues those particular players.  Being a leader is great, but it's tough to be a leader when you arent on the field.   And its not like the WR room is good or anything.  Smith came as the kind of player he is, Reagor remains what he came as, as did JJAW (if he didnt actually take a step backwards), what benefit are we actually seeing from Ward's leadership from the WRs?

That’s literally all they are doing

Which is unnecessary.  I'd rather roll with youth with a chance at some upside.  No need to spend millions on retreads that are likely no better than a UDFA.

yup.  Scott and Ward have been here for what 3 years now?  We know what they are.  They have not helped this team make any advancements.  They offer no upside.  There comes a time when it's time to see what younger guys or other guys from outside the organization can do.

Apparently longer than that.

I'm actually not pro trade for Metcalf.  But drafting another stud will cost us about 3 firsts 3 seconds, and a handful of mid round picks....because that's how many picks it'll take before we find another stud WR.

WRs. Yes.

RBs. No.

Look at some of those valuations.  I really hope that some of those Ss he lists as 7/UDFAs slip to undrafted and Howie’s team goes hard signing some of them.

We all like to take shots at Russel Wilson (for good reason), but this was a nice move.

Not a lot of disagreement with this.  I have, only somewhat tongue in cheek, referred to Ward as the third best WR in the WR room.  That is a reflection on how disappointed in Reagor I am and what a flop JJAW is not on Ward’s skill level.  Ward is the player a team should always be trying to replace.  But at the vet minimum, good value.  Gainwell should supplant Scott this year.  Should. That said, I can’t get over how bad he and Huntley looked in the final PS game.  If Howie still subscribes to drafting for future needs, a starting level RB is in the cards for this draft when the BPA.

Kind of.  Ward was on and off the PS until he went to the AAF, worked with a real WR coach, and came back to help ‘rescue’ a depleted WR group. You could, and I posted about it, see his leadership and what a quality teammate he is right away. Always seeking out other players and celebrating their successes. (Of the talented leaders on the team, you see that with Slay and BG).

Scott was a quality poach off the Saints PS the year he was drafted. So more a Saint than an Eagle the first year.

But completed three years active is the measurement for RFAs and that fits. Not at all surprised the Eagles brought them back but at less than tender prices. I suspect that Scott may have got an offer and they met it.

Thats a nice list to work off of. There are a lot of guys Id have in different rounds.

I wouldn't qualify that as being a 'leader'.  That's just being a good teammate.  A leader can (and does) call out players who are playing to their capability.  A leader leads by example and is always busting his butt to get better with each rep.  A leader is on the field showing others how to do it.

When Robert E. Lee addressed James Longstreet's propensity to move up too far on the front line he quipped back, "You can't lead from behind."

Leaders are in front of the team, not on the sidelines watching the team waiting to celebrate with them when they come off the field.  (That obviously doesn't go for injured players or players on the opposite side of the ball.).  Ward is a good teammate, but that doesn't make him a leader.

To change the subject from mediocrity to hopeful optimism.

The one ranking that stuck out to me as jarring was Deonte Wyatt in Round 2, and only one DT as a Round 1 value - Davis.    Matt is also exceedingly non-plussed with the LB corps overall.   Only 7 ranked in the first 3 days.   I like all of the ones he pointed to, but that has me worried that we will miss out on all of them, as the 'value' is likely seen as being later.

I agree 100% with his QB round values.  No first rounders, only 3 2nd rounders... and Carson Strong in Round 3.  The knee has to be a concern.   A little surprised at his ranking of Ridder in Round 5, but frankly, none of these QBs get me excited... other than Strong's cannon.   But, a cannon with a bum wheel is an issue.   That said, as a 3rd round pick, he could be the steal of the draft if that knee holds up.  Work him into the NFL slowly and then let him get out there in Year 2.
